Unread postby tomkiom » March 27th, 2008, 8:33 am

For the last two weeks or so my hard drive has been shrinking dramatically in size. I had over 20gb of free space two weeks ago and have not downloaded any new programs/music etc. This morning i've been having warnings of critically low drive space and now regularly have 0kb of hd space left. Please can anyone help. Thanks.

Hi,tomkiom, and welcome to malwareremoval forums

I'm dan12, I'll be glad to help you with your computer problems.

Please observe these rules while we work:
  • Perform all actions in the order given.
  • If you don't know, stop and ask! Don't keep going on.
  • Please reply to this thread. Do not start a new topic.
  • Stick with it till you're given the all clear.
  • REMEMBER, ABSENCE OF SYMPTOMS DOES NOT MEAN THE INFECTION IS ALL GONE.
If you can do these things, everything should go smoothly.
  • Please note you'll need to have Administrator priviledges to perform the fixes. (XP accounts are Administrator by default)
  • Please let me know if you are using a computer with multiple accounts, as this can affect the instructions given.
It may be helpful to you to print out or take a copy of any instructions given, as sometimes it is necessary to go offline and you will lose access to them.

I'm presently looking over your log and hope not to be too long.
Will be back with you as soon as I can.
Thanks dan

we need to put HJT into a permanent folder.

Highjackthis.exe is running out of a temp folder.
HijackThis.exe in a Temp folder: Can be accidentally deleted when the temp files are cleaned out, so to the backups.
Highjackthis.exe needs a permanant folder of it's own in order to create backups
Create a folder on the desktop, right click on the desktop, select new folder, and name it HJT . Now locate C:\Documents and Settings\Tom\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\ISCZFCHB\HijackThis[1].exe
copy and paste it into the new folder ( HJT ) you created on the desktop.

post a further HJT log.

Download Combofix from any of the links below, and save it to your desktop. For information regarding this download, please visit this webpage: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/combofi ... e-combofix

Link 1
Link 2
Link 3

**Note: It is important that it is saved directly to your desktop**

--------------------------------------------------------------------

1. Close any open browsers.

2. Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.

--------------------------------------------------------------------

Double click on combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
When finished, it will produce a report for you.
  • Please post the "C:\ComboFix.txt" along with a new HijackThis log for further review.

Note:
Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it's running. That may cause it to stall

What problem has appeared again?
Is it producing the same sort of log?
You mean you can't download combofix?
Are you downloading combo fix to the desktop as this is important!
Try and be a little more precise as it helps me.
Thanks dan

The Initial problem I know about from your opening statement as shown above. I assumed as you hadn't detailed it in your post this time that you were having the same problems with the cf log!

Where did I give instruction to download sp2? you don't need and shouldn't do this as you already have sp2 on your system.
Did you read this Guide here

Don't worry about the recovery consul at the moment, leave that section for the moment.
Try to get me a log again please. if your still having difficulty we may have to look at alternatives.
Before running:
Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.

WITH ALL OTHER WINDOWS CLOSED Click on Fix Checked and exit

Delete every System Restore point but the latest. That should get us plenty of space.

click start, run, copy and paste CLEANMGR into the run command click ok. We need to gain some space :)

Try and run cf now and Let me know how that goes.
