New possible malware

Unread postby hoorock » March 11th, 2008, 4:32 pm

I opened a case a few days ago that has since been closed. Sorry for the delays in response, but I went snowboarding and broke my arm...but back to my firefox issues now.

I'm enclosing a new hijackthis log and a kaspersky log. I also ran malware-bytes and it found nothing. This was all recommended by the previous case analyst. I have tried all the mozilla approved fixes for firefox (delete extensions & add-ons, run in safe mode, clean reinstall, etc.) and I'm still having problems where firefox stops and closes frequently. Its only on this computer, as my laptop and work PCs don't experience the same problem.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Hi hoorock

To access the Uninstall Manager you would do the following:

1. Start HijackThis
2. Click on the Config button
3. Click on the Misc Tools button
4. Click on the Open Uninstall Manager button.

You will now be presented with a screen similar to the one below:

Image

5. Click on the Save list... button and specify where you would like to save this file. When you press Save button a notepad will open with the contents of that file. Simply copy and paste the contents of that notepad here on your next reply.

Hi

Delete these:

C:\Documents and Settings\Peggy Hroma\My Documents\cornfree.exe
C:\Documents and Settings\Peggy Hroma\My Documents\despsw01.exe
C:\Program Files\MyWay\

Empty this folder:

C:\Program Files\Yahoo!\YPSR\Quarantine\

Empty Recycle Bin.

Still problems?

Yep. Had an issue last night so I rebooted the PC. Started it back up tonight and had the same Firefox crash issues. What's next?

Hi

Have you tried uninstalling and re-installing Firefox?

I did that several times before I contacted you guys. Should I try remove/reinstall again now that I've done some cleanup?

Hi

No, I don't think that it will help.

As this doesn't seem to be any malware problem, I redirect you to some windows forum.

Is that ok?

That is fine. In addition to working with you, I've been researching bugs through Firefox's forums and I haven't found anything yet. I was thinking that there may have been an incompatibility with some anti-virus or firewall software we're using. Hopefully we can come up with a solution. Thanks for all your help.
