Hi,

Welcome to Malware Removal.

  1. Please download Deckard's System Scanner from Tech Support Forum and save it to your desktop. Note: You must be logged onto an account with administrator privileges.
  2. Save all your work and close all opened programs.
  3. Right click on dss.exe and select Run As Administrator to run it. Follow the prompts.
  4. When the scan is complete, two log files will be produced. The first one, main.txt, will be maximized, the second one, extra.txt, will be minimized.
  5. Please post the contents of the 2 log files in your next reply. 1 log per reply please.

Hi,

Just to double check, is Norton 360 still installed on your computer?

µTorrent is installed on your computer and I see that it's running. While µTorrent is a clean P2P program, there's no guarantee that the files downloaded are. Please refrain from using it while cleaning your computer to prevent getting more infections.

A list of clean and infected P2P programs can be found at Malware Removal and Spyware Info.

The risks of using a P2P program are stated in this Sourceforge website and Information Week article.

Please also read Malware Removal's Guide on P2P Programs.

Step 1

  1. Click on Start > Control Panel.
  2. Double click on Programs and Features.
  3. Select Download Accelerator Plus (DAP) and click on Uninstall to uninstall it.
  4. Close the Control Panel window.
  5. Restart your computer now. This is important!

Here's why I asked you to uninstall Download Accelerator Plus.

http://www.speedbit.com/Legal/license/

From the License Agreement:

During the use of the Product, Services and/or Add-Ons, you may be shown advertising, marketing offers, and other promotional information, made available by SpeedBit or by third parties.

This Agreement does not cover the information practices exercised by other providers of products or services, advertisers, or other websites SpeedBit is not responsible for the privacy practices exercised by any such providers. Please consult the privacy statement of these providers to learn more about their privacy practices.

Here's a list of clean and infected download managers - http://www.safer-networking.org/en/arti ... agers.html

Step 2

Please disable these protection programs temporarily as they may interfere with the fixes.

Disable Windows Defender temporarily

  1. Go to Start > All Programs > Windows Defender.
  2. Click on Tools at the top.
  3. Under Settings, click on Options.
  4. Under Automatic scanning, uncheck (untick) Automatically scan my computer (recommended) box.
  5. Under Real-time protection options, uncheck (untick) Use real-time protection (recommended) box.
  6. Click on the Save button at the bottom right hand corner. If you receive a prompt, please allow it.

Disable Webroot Spysweeper temporarily

  1. Click on Start > All Programs > Webroot > Spy Sweeper. Right click on Spy Sweeper and select Run As Administrator.
  2. Select the Web Browser tab. Uncheck (untick) all the boxes there.
  3. Select the Network tab. Uncheck (untick) all the boxes there.
  4. Select the Windows System tab. Uncheck (untick) all the boxes there.
  5. Select the Startup tab. Uncheck (untick) Startup items box.
  6. Select the Email Attachments tab. Uncheck (untick) Email Attachments* box.
  7. Right click on Spysweeper icon and select Shutdown.

Step 3

  1. Please download Flash_Disinfector and save it to your desktop.
  2. Right click on Flash_Disinfector.exe and select Run As Administrator to run it. If you receive a prompt, please allow it.
  3. You will be prompted to plug in your flash drive. Plug it in.
  4. Flash_Disinfector will start disinfecting your flash and hard drives. This takes a few seconds. Your desktop will disappear in the meantime.
  5. When done, a message box will appear. Click OK. Your desktop should now appear. If it doesn't, press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager.
  6. Click on File > New Task (Run...). Type in explorer.exe and press Enter. Your desktop should now appear. Repeat for all the thumbdrives that you have.

Step 4

  1. Right click on the Start menu and select Explore.
  2. Click on Tools > Folder Options....
  3. Select the View tab.
  4. Under Hidden files and folders, select Show hidden files and folders.
  5. Uncheck (untick) these two boxes:
Hide extensions for known file types
Hide protected operating system files (Recommended)
  6. Click Yes when Windows prompts.
  7. Click OK to apply the settings.

Plug in your thumbdrive and remove this file if present: ravtack.exe

Can i dun uninstall DAP? i find it the faster download manager i have used.

I won't deny that it's one of the fastest download managers. However, the license agreement states clearly that Speedbit (makers of DAP) is not responsible for what these 3rd parties do. We have no idea if these 3rd parties will serve malwares of any sort.

Although you have a HOSTS file to protect you from known bad websites, it doesn't help if the bad website is not listed in the HOSTS file. You can be infected if one of the 3rd parties is not listed in the HOSTS file.

I will still leave it up to you to decide. My personal recommendation is to uninstall it. If you want to look for another Download Manager, Download Express is a good one. wxDownload Fast is also another good one, low on resources usage, but it has not been in development for quite some time.

  1. Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and save it to a convenient location.
  2. Double click on mbam-setup.exe to install it.
  3. Before clicking the Finish button, make sure that these 2 boxes are checked (ticked):
      Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
      Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
  4. Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware will now check for updates. If your firewall prompts, please allow it. If you can't update it, select the Update tab. Under Update Mirror, select one of the websites and click on Check for Updates.
  5. Select the Scanner tab. Click on Perform full scan, then click on Scan.
  6. Leave the default options as it is and click on Start Scan.
  7. When done, you will be prompted. Click OK, then click on Show Results.
  8. Checked (ticked) all items and click on Remove Selected.
  9. After it has removed the items, Notepad will open. Please post this log in your next reply. You can also find the log in the Logs tab. The bottom most log is the latest.

In your next reply, please post:

  1. Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware scan report
  2. A new HijackThis log

I recommend you to keep Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware. It's developed by a team of well-known anti-malware fighters and is being updated very regularly. :)

Remember to update it before scanning. :)

Please also delete Flash_Disinfector.exe and dss.exe. It's no longer needed now.

This folder needs to be removed as well:

C:\Deckard

Re-enable Windows Defender

  1. Go to Start > All Programs > Windows Defender.
  2. Click on Tools at the top.
  3. Under Settings, click on Options.
  4. Under Automatic scanning, check (tick) Automatically scan my computer (recommended) box.
  5. Under Real-time protection options, check (tick) Use real-time protection (recommended) box.
  6. Click on the Save button at the bottom right hand corner.

Re-enable Webroot Spysweeper

  1. Click on Start > All Programs > Webroot > Spy Sweeper. Right click on Spy Sweeper and select Run As Administrator. If you receive a prompt, please allow it.
  2. Select the Web Browser tab. Check (tick) all the boxes there.
  3. Select the Network tab. Check (tick) all the boxes there.
  4. Select the Windows System tab. Check (tick) all the boxes there.
  5. Select the Startup tab. Check (tick) Startup items box.
  6. Select the Email Attachments tab. Check (tick) Email Attachments* box.
  7. Close Spysweeper.

Hide system files

  1. Right click on the Start menu and select Explore.
  2. Click on Tools > Folder Options....
  3. Select the View tab.
  4. Under Hidden files and folders, select Do not show hidden files and folders.
  5. Check (tick) these two boxes:
Hide extensions for known file types
Hide protected operating system files (Recommended)
  6. Click Yes when Windows prompts.
  7. Click OK to apply the settings.

Flush the system restore points

  1. Click on Start.
  2. Right click on Computer and select Properties.
  3. Click on System Protection under Tasks section.
  4. Uncheck (untick) all the boxes under Create restore points automatically on the selected disks section.
  5. Click OK.
  6. Restart your computer.

After restarting your computer, follow these steps:

  1. Click on Start.
  2. Right click on Computer and select Properties.
  3. Click on System Protection under Tasks section.
  4. Check (tick) all the boxes under Create restore points automatically on the selected disks section.
  5. Click OK.
  6. Restart your computer.

Note: Do this only ONCE, don't flush it regularly.

Keep your system updated

Update Windows

Microsoft releases patches for Windows and Office products regularly to patch up Windows and Office products loopholes and fix any bugs found. Please ensure that you visit the following websites regularly or do update your system regularly.

Install the updates immediately if they are found. Reboot your computer if necessary, revisit Windows Update and Office update sites until there are no more updates to be installed.

To update Windows, click on Start > Windows Update (or Start > All Programs > Windows Update if you are using the new Vista Start Menu). If the Windows Update is not found there, go to this link - http://update.microsoft.com/ .

Besides Windows that needs regular updating, antivirus, anti-spyware and firewall programs update regularly too.

Please make sure that you update your antivirus, firewall and anti-spyware programs at least once a week.

Be careful when opening attachments and downloading files.

  1. Never open email attachments, not even if they are from someone you know. If you need to open them, scan them with your antivirus program before opening.
  2. Never open emails from unknown senders.
  3. Beware of emails that warn about viruses that are spreading, especially those from antivirus vendors. These email addresses can be easily spoofed. Check the antivirus vendor websites to be sure.
  4. Be careful of what you download. Only download files from known sources. Also, avoid cracked programs. If you need a particular program that costs too much for you, try finding free alternatives on Sourceforge or Pricelessware.

Backup regularly

You never know when your PC will become unstable or become so infected that you can't recover it. Follow this article to learn how to backup. To restore them, see this article.

Make your Internet Explorer safer

Please read this article to configure Internet Explorer 7 properly.

Avoid P2P

P2P may be a great way to get lots of stuffs, but it is a great way to get infected as well. There's no way to tell if the file being shared is infected. Worse still, some worms spread via P2P networks, infecting you as well. If you do need to use them, use them sparingly. Check this list of clean and infected P2P programs if you need to use one.

Prevent a re-infection

  1. Winpatrol
Winpatrol is heuristic protection program, meaning it looks for patterns in codes that work like malware. It also takes a snapshot of your system's critical resources and alerts you to any changes that may occur without you knowing. You can read more about Winpatrol's features here.

You can get a free copy of Winpatrol or use the Plus version for more features.

You can read Winpatrol's FAQ if you run into problems.
  2. Spybot Search and Destroy
Spybot Search & Destroy is another program for scanning spywares and adwares. Not only so, it has other preventive options as well. You are strongly encouraged to run a scan at least once per week.

Spybot Search & Destroy can be downloaded from here.

If you need help in using Spybot Search & Destroy, you can read Spybot Search and Destroy tutorial at Bleeping Computer.

Before downloading any anti-spyware programs, always check the Rogue/Suspect list of anti-spyware programs and Malwarebytes RogueNET. This will save you from a lot of trouble. If in doubt, don't ever download it.
