I believe this will target those files in that folder.

Download SDFix and save it to your Desktop.

Double click SDFix.exe and it will extract the files to %systemdrive%
(Drive that contains the Windows Directory, typically C:\SDFix)

Please then reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following :
  • Restart your computer
  • After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually;
  • Instead of Windows loading as normal, the Advanced Options Menu should appear;
  • Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode, then press Enter.
  • Choose your usual account.
  • Open the extracted SDFix folder and double click RunThis.bat to start the script.
  • Type Y to begin the cleanup process.
  • It will remove any Trojan Services and Registry Entries that it finds then prompt you to press any key to Reboot.
  • Press any Key and it will restart the PC.
  • When the PC restarts the Fixtool will run again and complete the removal process then display Finished, press any key to end the script and load your desktop icons.
  • Once the desktop icons load the SDFix report will open on screen and also save into the SDFix folder as Report.txt
(Report.txt will also be copied to Clipboard ready for posting back on the forum).
  • Finally paste the contents of the Report.txt back on the forum with a new HijackThis log

I'm pleased I persisted with that folder :)
Can you put any light on this entry? C:\Old Data\Arc\2003\Lee\Mar\~wrl0005.tmp" don't think it's bad just tidying up :)

Right click start, In the drop down menu click "Explore" Then navigate to each file\ folder in the left hand pane, which will reveal its content in the right hand pane, highlight file or folder right click and Delete, if present:

C:\WINDOWS\kdldubmh << This folder
C:\SDFix << This folder

UNINSTALL COMBOFIX

  • Click START then RUN
  • Now type Combofix /u in the runbox and click OK.
  • Note the space between the X and the U, it needs to be there.
  • Image
You can also delete any logs we have produced, and empty your Recycle bin.

Close all windows and try typing this command directly in and see if ComboFix runs.

Remember to use the " marks and there is a space between exe" and /killall

Start > Run > type "%userprofile%\desktop\combofix.exe" /killall

If ComboFix runs, please post the log.

Post me one more HJT log.

Hi, Dan! :)

"C:\Old Data\Arc\2003\Lee\Mar\" is a directory that contains some old WordPerfect files. Can't think why it would contain a .tmp file, tho.

Folders "C:\WINDOWS\kdldubmh" and "C:\SDFix" have both now been deleted.

ComboFix has been uninstalled, and even popped up a message to tell me so.

All old log files we have produced haved been deleted, and the Recycle bin emptied.

When I tried to run ComboFix directly with the /killall, I got an error message saying it could not be found.

Here's the latest HJT log:

Hi,ITManager
Well done! :)
Congratulations you are clean! :)
Now that you are clean, please follow these simple steps in order to keep your computer clean and secure:

Create a new System Restore Point
This is a good time to clear your existing system restore points and establish a new clean restore point:
  • Go to Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore
  • Select Create a restore point, and Ok it.
  • Next, go to Start > Run and type in cleanmgr
  • Select the More options tab
  • Choose the option to clean up system restore and OK it.
This will remove all restore points except the new one you just created.

Here are some free programs I recommend that could help you improve your computer's security.

Spybot Search and Destroy 1.5.2
Download it from here. Just choose a mirror and off you go.
Find here the tutorial on how to use Spybot properly here
Find here changes from older version 1.4 here

Install Spyware Guard
Download it from here
Find here the tutorial on how to use Spyware Guard here

Install SpyWare Blaster
Download it from here
Find here the tutorial on how to use Spyware Blaster here

Install WinPatrol
Download it from here
Here you can find information about how WinPatrol works here

Install FireTrust SiteHound
You can find information and download it from here

Install MVPS Hosts File from here
The MVPS Hosts file replaces your current HOSTS file with one containing well know ad sites etc. Basically, this prevents your computer from connecting to those sites by redirecting them to 127.0.0.1 which is your local computer.
Find Tutorial here : http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/hosts.htm

Update your Antivirus programs and other security products regularly to avoid new threats that could infect your system.
You can use one of these sites to check if any updates are needed for your pc.
Secunia Software Inspector
F-secure Health Check

Visit Microsoft often to get the latest updates for your computer.
http://www.update.microsoft.com

Please check out Tony Klein's article "How did I get infected in the first place?"

Read some information here how to prevent Malware.

Happy safe surfing!

Hi, Dan! :)

I've completed these tasks, and have one final question... You say,

"Here are some free programs I recommend that could help you improve your computer's security."

Do I install and run *all* these programs, in addition to AVG which is already running?? I thought you said earlier that multiple antivirus programs can fight each other for resources. Thanks in advance for your answer.

And thanks so much for sticking with me through this. What a great resource this is! :)

Hi, ITManager, nice to hear from you again :)
AVG7 Is your a/v and Sygate Security Agent, is your firewall
Yes, your correct one a/v and one firewall only to be on a system, otherwise you get conflicts.
The programs put forward in my closing speech are anti "malware" programs, not anti virus, It doesn't matter too much with those.
choice is yours as to which you have, obtain your updates and latest definitions on a regular basis and maybe scan either every couple of weeks or once a month.
Hope that's helped some.
