Hello Pg&Lee,

Let's hope it's not too late. I may found a way to avoid another on-line scan.

I don't know if you have saved somewhere on your pc Kaspersky report.
If you did, do not run Panda scan.
Open Kaspersky report using Notepad, go to Edit, Find and copy this in the search box:

Z:\System Volume Information\MountPointManagerRemoteDatabase Object is locked skipped

Click ok. When you see that line, please copy the rest of the report back here.
Hopefully we will avoid running Panda this way.;)

chryssi2001,

Was able to succesfuly follow all your instructions.
FYI: Panda ActiveScan will not run using the Fire Fox browser on my machine. It did run via IE6.

Regards, Patrick

If you did, do not run Panda scan.
Open Kaspersky report using Notepad, go to Edit, Find and copy this in the search box:

Z:\System Volume Information\MountPointManagerRemoteDatabase Object is locked skipped

Click ok. When you see that line, please copy the rest of the report back here.
Hopefully we will avoid running Panda this way.;)

Saw this after my last reply.

Yes, I did save the Kaspersky report, but line, "Z:\System Volume Information\MountPointManagerRemoteDatabase Object is locked skipped" was the last line in the report.

Hopefully, Panda produced what you need.

FYI: Drives X, Y & Z are located on an external 'backup" drive that is normally secured. I haven't run a mirrored back-up since I noted the malware.

Hello Patrick :),

Good news, everything is fine, just some minor things to do and we are done. :)
----------------------------------------------
Run ATF cleaner and give special attention to use Firefox tab to clean some cookies which show in Panda report.
----------------------------------------------
Did you have wareout infection lately and run the tool? Did someone helped you with it?
----------------------------------------------
You have to update Java again, as there is a fresh new update No.5

Update Java Runtime:

You are using an old version of Java. Sun's Java is sometimes updated in order to eliminate the exploitation of vulnerabilities in an existing version. For this reason, it's extremely important that you keep the program up to date, and also remove the older more vulnerable versions from your system. The most current version of Sun Java is: Java Runtime Environment Version 6 Update 5.
  • Go to http://java.sun.com/javase/downloads/index.jsp
  • Go to Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 Update 5 and click on Download button.
  • In Platform box choose Windows.
  • Check the box to Accept License Agreement and click Continue.
  • Click on Windows Offline Installation, click on the link under it which says "jre-6u4-windows-i586-p.exe" and save the downloaded file to your desktop.
  • Go to Start => Control Panel => Add or Remove Programs
  • Uninstall all old versions of Java (Java 3 Runtime Environment, JRE or JSE)
  • Reboot your computer
  • Delete the folder C:\Program Files\Java if present
  • Install the new version by running the newly-downloaded file with the java icon which will be at your desktop, and follow the on-screen instructions.
  • Reboot your computer
----------------------------------------------
After doing the above we are done.

You can keep ATF cleaner and use it frequently to remove cookies and empty temporary files.
You can also keep Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware which is a very good and quick scanner.
----------------------------------------------
Let's clear out the programs we've been using to clean up your computer, they are not suitable for general malware removal and could cause damage if used inappropriately.

Please download OTMoveIt2 and save it to desktop.
  • Double-click OTMoveIt2.exe.
  • Click the CleanUp! button.
  • Select Yes when the "Begin cleanup Process?" prompt appears.
  • If you are prompted to Reboot during the cleanup, select Yes.
  • The tool will delete itself once it finishes, if not delete it by yourself.
----------------------------------------------
Congratulations you are clean! :)
Now that you are clean, please follow these simple steps in order to keep your computer clean and secure:

Disable and Enable System Restore. - If you are using Windows XP or Vista then you should disable and re-enable system restore to make sure there are no infected files found in a restore point.

You can find instructions on how to enable and re-enable system restore here:

Windows XP System Restore Guide

or

Windows Vista System Restore Guide

Re-enable system restore with instructions from tutorial above.

Here are some free programs I recommend that could help you improve your computer's security.
(Vista users must ensure that any programs are Vista compatible BEFORE installing)

Spybot Search and Destroy 1.5.2
Download it from here. Just choose a mirror and off you go.
Find here the tutorial on how to use Spybot properly here
Find here changes from older version 1.4 here

Install SpyWare Blaster 4.0
Download it from here
Find here the tutorial on how to use Spyware Blaster here

Install WinPatrol
Download it from here
Here you can find information about how WinPatrol works here

Install FireTrust SiteHound
You can find information and download it from here

Install MVPS Hosts File from here
The MVPS Hosts file replaces your current HOSTS file with one containing well know ad sites etc. Basically, this prevents your computer from connecting to those sites by redirecting them to 127.0.0.1 which is your local computer.
Find Tutorial here : http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/hosts.htm

Update your Antivirus programs and other security products regularly to avoid new threats that could infect your system.
You can use one of these sites to check if any updates are needed for your pc.
Secunia Software Inspector
F-secure Health Check

Visit Microsoft often to get the latest updates for your computer.

chryssi2001,

Well, its been a long and interesting trip. I'm very pleased to once again have confidnce in my PC. I hope you understand how valuable your services have been to me and, no doubt, many others as well.

I also hope that my donation will personally benefit you.

Concerning the wareout infection; No one has been directing my actions regarding wareout. As I remember, about six months ago I had a malware problem I tried to tackle myself. And after researching the issue I D/Led and ran the "Fixwareout" application. It seemed to have done some good. I still have Fixwareout.exe installed and I ran it once since you and I started working my latest malware issues. As I remember it didn't result in anything significant. I hope that my actions didn't complicate your analysis.

Warmest regards, Patrick

I am happy i was able to help you. Thanks for the donation, it will keep this forum going on against malware fight. :)

Now about using fixwareout or other tools, please avoid to use any, as some of them can create problems if not used properly. ;)
