Hi

Ive already had you install a replacement. MalwareBytes Anti-Malware. ;)

[Party Poker, PartyCasino, UltimateBet, EmpirePoker, and the related sites are a risk and that's where most malware gets installed. Online Poker sites are well known for placing all manner of Internet parasites on their visitors' computers and continue to do so. They should be highly suspect for any Malware on your computer. In a lot of cases, these Poker plugins are also getting installed without your asking for it. You can read Poker gamers targeted by a rootkit backdoor regarding the risk involved with visiting the Poker games web sites. Two safe alternatives are PokerStars and Pogo.com.

I recommend that you remove Party Poker and Empire Poker.
To uninstall the Party Poker.
  1. Click Start > Control Panel.
  2. In Control Panel, double-click Add or Remove Programs.
  3. In Add or Remove Programs, highlight Party Poker, click Remove.
  4. Close the Add or Remove Programs and the Control Panel windows.
  5. Using Windows Explorer (Windows key+e), search for the Party Poker folder. If the program folder is still there, select/highlight the PartyPoker folder. DELETE it. (File > Delete.) If Windows is not installed on the C drive, replace C:\ with the appropriate drive letter.
  6. Close Windows Explorer.

Run HijackThis, select Do a system scan only and place checks against the following entries (if they are still present):

    R3 - URLSearchHook: OLE (Part 1 of 5) - - (no file)
O2 - BHO: (no name) - rsion - (no file)
    O2 - BHO: PCTools Site Guard - {5C8B2A36-3DB1-42A4-A3CB-D426709BBFEB} - C:\PROGRA~1\SPYWAR~1\tools\iesdsg.dll
    O2 - BHO: PCTools Browser Monitor - {B56A7D7D-6927-48C8-A975-17DF180C71AC} - (no file)
    O9 - Extra button: Spyware Doctor - {2D663D1A-8670-49D9-A1A5-4C56B4E14E84} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\shdocvw.dll
    O9 - Extra button: PartyPoker.net - {F4430FE8-2638-42e5-B849-800749B94EED} - C:\Program Files\PartyGaming.Net\PartyPokerNet\RunPF.exe (file missing)
    O9 - Extra 'Tools' menuitem: PartyPoker.net - {F4430FE8-2638-42e5-B849-800749B94EED} - C:\Program Files\PartyGaming.Net\PartyPokerNet\RunPF.exe (file missing)

WITH ALL OTHER WINDOWS CLOSED Click on Fix Checked, exit HijackThis and reboot.

Time for some housekeeping

  • Click START then RUN
  • Now type Combofix /u in the runbox and click OK. Note the space between the x and the /u, it needs to be there.

Delete the older versions of Java and download the newest.
Please follow these steps to remove older version Java components.
  1. Close any programmes you may have running, ESPECIALLY your web browser
  2. Click Start > Control Panel.
  3. Click Add/Remove Programs.
  4. Check any item with Java Runtime Environment (JRE or J2SE) in the name.
  5. Click the Remove or Change/Remove button.
  6. Repeat as many times as necessary to remove all versions of Java.
  7. Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed.
Then download the latest version of Java Runtime Environment (JRE) (4th one down the list), which is JRE6u4, and click Yes at the page warning. Under "Platform" select Windows, then check the box to accept the Licence Agreement. Click Yes at the second page warning before downloading the Offline file.

Open Malwarebytes Anti-Malware (MBAM) and click on Update to ensure it is up to date, then select Perform full scan, then click Scan.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • When completed, a log will open in Notepad. Please save it to a convenient location.
  • The log can also be found here:
    C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Application Data\Malwarebytes\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\Logs\mbam-log-date (time).txt
  • Post that log back here with a new HijackThis log and tell me of any problems you might still be having.

I still have lots of virus alerts poping up while doing the MB scan. They seem to be in the System restore files. Sorry I took so long but I had company over most the weekend and then it was back to work. Weekend starts tomorrow and I'll be right here. Thanks

Hi

Could you run a full scan with MBAM once again and post the new log it creates, just to make sure we have got everything.

Hi

Congratulations, you appear to be malware free.

Create a new, clean System Restore point which you can use in case of future system problems:
Press Start->All Programs->Accessories->System Tools->System Restore
Select Create a restore point, then Next, type a name like All Clean then press the Create button and once it's done press Close

Now remove old, infected System Restore points:
Next click Start->Run and type cleanmgr in the box and press OK
Ensure the boxes for Temporary Files and Temporary Internet Files are checked, you can choose to check other boxes if you wish but they are not required.
Select the More Options tab, under System Restore press Clean up... and say Yes to the prompt
Press OK and Yes to confirm

Here is a free program I recommend you install.

Install WinPatrol
Download it from here
Here you can find information about how WinPatrol works here

Make sure your Windows is ALWAYS up to date!

An unpatched Windows is vulnerable and even with the "best" Antivirus and Firewall installed, malware will find its way through.
So visit http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/ to download and install the latest updates.

Update your Antivirus programs and other security products regularly to avoid new threats that could infect your system.

Please check out Tony Klein's article "How did I get infected in the first place?"

Here is some great information from experts in this field that will help you stay clean and safe online.
http://forums.spybot.info/showthread.php?t=279

Follow this list and your potential for being infected again will reduce dramatically.

I'd be grateful if you could reply to this post so that I know you have read it and, if you've no other questions, the thread can be closed.

RESTORE WON'T WORK. Icon is generic program icon. When clicked on nothing happens. Left clicked on it and checked properties and there was no target/path to file. Do you know the file name in windows/system32 to look for it or what to do a search for?

Hi

This may be the cause of the System Restore problem.

Go to Start>Control Panel>Add/Remove Programs and remove the Kaspersky Online Scanner.

Run HijackThis, select Do a system scan only and place checks against the following entries (if they are still present):
WITH ALL OTHER WINDOWS CLOSED Click on Fix Checked and exit HijackThis.

Now try flushing the Restore Points again.

Did the hijackthis, the area you wanted me to remove was not there. Did the cleanupmanager, added winpatrol, Still no restore. Comodo listed MMonitor.exe was running after reboot. Some of these programs I dont know what they are but I let it run.

Hi

Let's check if System Restore Services is running as it should.
To verify that System Restore services are running using the command prompt:
  1. Click Start > Run
  2. type CMD in the control box
  3. Press Enter
  4. When the black box opens please type Net Start and press Enter
  5. A list will open up.
  6. Scroll down and try to find System Restore Service.
  7. Let me know if you found it or not.

Backup Your Registry with ERUNT
  • Please use the following link and scroll down to ERUNT and download it.
    http://aumha.org/freeware/freeware.php
  • For version with the Installer:
Use the setup program to install ERUNT on your computer
  • For the zipped version:
Unzip all the files into a folder of your choice.

Click Erunt.exe to backup your registry to the folder of your choice.

Note: to restore your registry, go to the folder and start ERDNT.exe

Copy/paste the following text into a new Notepad document. Make sure that wordwrap is turned off.

@echo off
if exist systemrestore.txt del systemrestore.txt
regedit /a /e systemrestore.txt "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows NT\SystemRestore"
notepad systemrestore.txt

Name the file systemrestore.bat
Save as Type: All files
Save it on the desktop.

Double click sytemrestore.bat. Notepad will open with systemrestore.txt.
Post the contents of the file please.

If the computer tells you that the file "systemrestore.txt" does not exist it is Ok . Just let me know and then close Notepad. It means that one more culprit has been ruled out.
