Help needed - PC in trouble

Unread postby pbisac » February 22nd, 2008, 4:26 pm

Hi everybody,
Since a couple of days my laptop exhibits strange behaviour. First my Wlan disappeared, if I try to scan for wireless networks I get the message (impossible to configure wireless network). Zero configuration procedure is not working. My webcam stopped working. My NOD32 antivirus went out of order. If I try to launch it I get the message "this is not a valid Win32 application".
I took my SATA HD away and scanned it in another PC with NOD32, revealing 30 bagle infection.
Now, even with disk cleaned up all problems are still there. Are there any good fellow who could give me a hand ?

I enclose my Hijack this report:

Hi,

I'm afraid I have unpleasant news for you. You have been infected by Trojan.Mitglieder.Q. This infection allows outsiders complete access to every keystroke, account, and password you use while on this machine.

IF this computer has been used for any kind of important data, my best recommendation is to disconnect from the internet, reformat the entire drive and reinstall your operating system and applications.

We can likely clean the infected files off the computer, and if you wish we will attempt to do so, but we cannot be sure that the infection didn't do something to your system to reduce the system security. If that's the case, you could be subject to another attack or takeover as soon as you reconnect to the internet, even after removal of the infection.

The decision whether to reformat or not should be based on what you use the computer for. If the computer has been used for any important data, you are strongly advised to do the following, immediately:

  • Disconnect the infected computer from the internet and from any networked computers until the computer can be cleaned.
  • Back up all important data on the machine. Do not back up any applications (programs) or executable files (.dll, .exe, .scr, .bat, .cmd, .vbs, .sys). Those should be reinstalled from the original CD's or websites.
  • If you have used this computer for shopping, banking, or any transactions relating to your financial well being, call all of your banks, credit card companies and financial institutions, informing them that you may be a victim of identity theft, and to put a watch on your accounts or change all your account numbers.
  • From a clean computer, change ALL your online passwords - for ISP login, email, banks, financial accounts, PayPal, eBay, online companies, and any online forums or groups you belong to.
  • DO NOT change passwords or do any transactions while using the infected computer because the attacker will get the new password and transaction information.
  • Take any other steps you think appropriate for an attempted identity theft.

To help you understand more, please take some time to read the following articles:

What are Remote Access Trojans and why are they dangerous
How do I respond to a possible identity theft and how do I prevent it
When should do a reformat and reinstallation of my OS
Where to backup your files
How to backup your files in Windows XP
Restoring your backups

In your next reply, let me know how you want to proceed.

Hi and thanks for your answer,

actually, searching the net this morning I found an article on Bagle worm, and the sympthoms were identical to mines. So I followed these guidelines:

In Regedit I deletes entries
hldrrr
drvsyskit
german.exe

from HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

along with
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\DateTime4
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\FirstRRRun.

keys. Then I reactivated the sopped services like Wlan, PC Security etc. Finally I ripristinated safeboot using a .reg file wich I downloaded.
My system seem OK now. I could re-install NOD32 ad make a complete scan, My services are OK.

Perhaps I have ANOTHER infection ?!?!?

I enclose my new HJThis report:

Simon V. wrote:Hi,

In your next reply, let me know how you want to proceed.

Hi :)

Please don't run anything unless instructed to.

Please download and install CCleaner.

Open CCleaner. On the Windows tab, leave the default options alone.

  • On the Applications tab, check (tick) all the boxes except Saved Form Information. This will remove all your saved passwords if you leave this box checked.
  • Click on the Run Cleaner button at the bottom right hand corner.
  • When the cleaner has completed, click Tools in the Left Pane.
  • Verify that Uninstall is highlighted in color, or click on it.
  • In the lower right, click Save to Text File.
  • Pull down the arrow at the top of the Save dialog and choose Desktop as the location.
  • You can leave the filename as install.txt.
  • Click Save, then exit Ccleaner.

Please visit this webpage for instructions for downloading and running ComboFix:

Post the log from ComboFix (C:\Combofix.txt) when you've accomplished that, along with a new HijackThis log and the CCleaner Uninstall List (install.txt).

Hi :)

I'm almost sure you're still infected, please do the following -

Delete Combofix.exe, and this folder if it exists - C:\Combofix\.
____________

Download Combofix from any of the links below. You must rename it before saving it. Save it to your desktop.

Double click on Combo-Fix.exe & follow the prompts.

When finished, it will produce a report for you.
Please post the C:\ComboFix.txt along with a HijackThis log so we can continue cleaning the system.

Note: Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it's running. That may cause it to stall.

Please follow the instructions in my previous post one more time - Combofix has been updated and the problems you are experiencing should be addressed.
