CiD pop ups won't go away, help

Unread postby Mothy_Tim » January 29th, 2008, 6:17 pm

Hi,

Have very annoying pop ups that I don't seem to be able to get rid of! Have tried ad-aware and Housecall scanning quite a few times with each but they are still there. Hoping someone can help before I give up and wipe the hard drive and start again!

Re: CiD pop ups won't go away, help

Unread postby silver » February 4th, 2008, 11:29 pm

Hi Mothy_Tim,

Temporarily disable Windows Defender:
  • Right-click on the Windows Defender icon in the system tray and select Open
  • Click on Tools from the top menu, then press Options
  • Scroll down to Real-time protection options, uncheck Use real-time protection and press Save
  • Close Windows Defender

Then download SDFix and save it to your Desktop.

Double click SDFix.exe and it will extract the files to %systemdrive%
(Drive that contains the Windows Directory, typically C:\SDFix)

Please print/save a copy of the following instructions because we will be using Safe Mode, during which time you won't have access to the internet.

Now reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following :
  • Restart your computer
  • After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually;
  • Instead of Windows loading as normal, the Advanced Options Menu should appear;
  • Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode, then press Enter.
  • Choose your usual account.
  • Open the extracted SDFix folder (usually Start->My Computer->C:->SDFix and double click RunThis.bat to start the script.
  • Type Y to begin the cleanup process.
  • It will remove any Trojan Services and Registry Entries that it finds then prompt you to press any key to Reboot.
  • Press any key and it will restart the PC.
  • When the PC restarts the Fixtool will run again and complete the removal process then display Finished, press any key to end the script and load your desktop icons.
  • Once the desktop icons load the SDFix report will open on screen and also save into the SDFix folder as Report.txt
(Report.txt will also be copied to Clipboard ready for posting back on the forum).

Next, please download Deckard's System Scanner (DSS) to your Desktop (right-click the link, select Save Target As..., select your Desktop and press Save)
  • Close all applications and windows.
  • Double-click on dss.exe to run it, and follow the prompts.
  • When the scan is complete, two text files will open - main.txt <- this one will be maximized and extra.txt<-this one will be minimized
  • Make sure Format->Word Wrap is unchecked
  • Copy (Ctrl+A then Ctrl+C) and paste (Ctrl+V) the contents of main.txt and extra.txt in your reply

Once complete, please post the SDFix report and both DSS logs, you won't need to produce a new HijackThis log as DSS produces one for you.

Re: CiD pop ups won't go away, help

Unread postby silver » February 5th, 2008, 10:11 pm

Hi Mothy_Tim,

Yes we haven't yet dealt with the popup problem but that should be resolved shortly.

You have a program called Messenger Plus! Live installed. This program has installed malware called LOP which is causing the popups on your computer. To remove the program open Start->Control Panel->Add/Remove Programs, find and remove these programs:
Messenger Plus! 3
Messenger Plus! Live & Sponsor (CiD)

You have Logitech Desktop Messenger installed. This is a background process which can access the internet without your knowledge or consent. Although it can assist in providing software updates for your Logitech hardware, it uses resources on your machine and the fact that it accesses the internet without your approval is potentially dangerous. I recommend you remove this program, to do so, open Start->Control Panel->Add/Remove Programs and remove Logitech Desktop Messenger.

Please also remove these programs:
Java(TM) 6 Update 2
Java(TM) 6 Update 3
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment 6 Update 1
These are out of date and now a security risk, you can get the latest update (version 6 update 4) from here

------------------------------------------------------------------------

Next, please download Deljob.exe and save it to your desktop.
Doubleclick Deljob.exe to start the program.
A file called logit.txt should appear on your Desktop and should open in Notepad, post the contents of this file in your next response.

------------------------------------------------------------------------

Then, open HijackThis, choose Do a system scan only and place a checkmark next to the following lines:
R3 - URLSearchHook: Yahoo! Toolbar - {EF99BD32-C1FB-11D2-892F-0090271D4F88} - (no file)
R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - {BC4FFE41-DE9F-46fa-B455-AAD49B9F9938} - (no file)
O2 - BHO: SWEETIE - {1A0AADCD-3A72-4b5f-900F-E3BB5A838E2A} - C:\PROGRA~1\MACROG~1\SWEETI~1\toolbar.dll (file missing)
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {7E853D72-626A-48EC-A868-BA8D5E23E045} - (no file)
O3 - Toolbar: (no name) - {BC4FFE41-DE9F-46fa-B455-AAD49B9F9938} - (no file)
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [body safe tool drv] C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\active move body safe\Team inside.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [MessengerPlus3] "C:\Program Files\MessengerPlus! 3\MsgPlus.exe" /WinStart
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [liesfilm] C:\DOCUME~1\Julie\APPLIC~1\SAFETH~1\Audiowebinfo.exe

Then close all open windows apart from HijackThis, press Fix checked, OK the prompt and close HijackThis.

------------------------------------------------------------------------

Make hidden/system files and folders visible:
Click Start -> My Computer
Select the Tools menu, click Folder Options and select the View tab
Under the Hidden files and folders heading SELECT Show hidden files and folders
UNCHECK the Hide extensions for known file types option
UNCHECK the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option
Click Yes to confirm and press OK

Use Windows Explorer (right-click Start, select Explore) to find and delete the following:
C:\WINDOWS\Tasks\A7CCD72E918B4816.job
C:\Program Files\Safe That Hope <--- folder
C:\Documents and Settings\Julie\Application Data\Safe That Hope <--- folder
C:\Program Files\Instant Messenger Names <--- folder
C:\Program Files\Circle Developement <--- folder
C:\Program Files\Messenger Plus! Live <--- folder
If one or more aren't present, don't be concerned but if you have trouble deleting any, please let me know in your next response.

------------------------------------------------------------------------

Once complete, please post the Deljob report and a new HijackThis log.

Hi, sorry been away working for a few days. Think I've done every thing as you've said , only problem I had was with Logitech Desktop Manager which won't uninstall it crashes half way though and disappears!

Many thanks for your help, pop ups now gone it seems.

Re: CiD pop ups won't go away, help

Unread postby silver » February 10th, 2008, 8:08 pm

Hi Mothy_Tim,

We'll disable Logitech Desktop Messenger with HijackThis:

Then, open HijackThis, choose Do a system scan only and place a checkmark next to the following line:
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [LDM] C:\Program Files\Logitech\Desktop Messenger\8876480\Program\LogitechDesktopMessenger.exe

Then close all open windows apart from HijackThis, press Fix checked, OK the prompt and close HijackThis.

Next, use Windows Explorer (right-click Start, select Explore) to find and delete the following folders:
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\active move body safe <-- folder
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Messenger Plus! <-- folder
If you have trouble deleting either, please let me know in your next response.

Next, please do an online scan with Kaspersky:
Open Kaspersky Online Scanner in Internet Explorer using this link:
http://www.kaspersky.com/kos/eng/partner/default/kavwebscan.html
  • Click Accept and the web scanner will begin to load
  • If a yellow warning bar appears at the top of the browser, click it and choose Install ActiveX Control
  • You will be prompted to install an ActiveX component from Kaspersky, click Install
  • If you are prompted about another ActiveX control called Kaspersky Online Scanner GUI part then allow it to be installed also.
  • The program will launch and then begin downloading the latest definition files:
  • Once the files have been downloaded click on NEXT and then Scan Settings
  • In the scan settings make that the following are selected:
    • Scan using the following Anti-Virus database:
      Extended (if available otherwise Standard)
    • Scan Options:
      Scan Archives
      Scan Mail Bases
  • Click OK
  • Now under select a target to scan:
      Select My Computer
  • The program will start to scan your system.
  • Once the scan is complete, click on the Save as Text button and save the file to your desktop
Note for Internet Explorer 7 users: If at any time you have trouble with the accept button of the license, click on the Zoom tool located at the right bottom of the IE window and set the zoom to 75 %. Once the license is accepted, reset to 100%.

Once complete, please post the Kaspersky log and a new HijackThis log.

Hi, for some reason I can't post the Kaspersky log! Tried attaching it but it wouldn't do that either! Think it's to big.

Pop-ups less frequent but still seem to be there. Many thanks for your continuing help on this!

Here is the Hijack this log.

Unread postby silver » February 13th, 2008, 1:06 am

Hi Mothy_Tim,

We need to repeat a couple of steps:

Please run Deljob again using the same instructions:

Download Deljob.exe and save it to your desktop (if necessary)
Doubleclick Deljob.exe to start the program.
A file called logit.txt should appear on your Desktop and should open in Notepad, post the contents of this file in your next response.

Then open HijackThis, choose Do a system scan only and place a checkmark next to the following line:
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [body safe tool drv] C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\active move body safe\Corn Meow.exe
Then close all open windows apart from HijackThis, press Fix checked, OK the prompt and close HijackThis.

Then use Windows Explorer (right-click Start, select Explore) to find and delete the following folder:
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\active move body safe <- whole folder
If you have trouble finding or deleting any, please let me know in your next response.

Now try uploading the Kaspersky log as follows:
Please open this page in your browser:
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/submit- ... channel=32

Please fill in the link to topic field with a link to this topic
Press the Browse button, navigate to and select the Kaspersky log file, and press Open
Then press Send File, this will upload the file to me.

Once complete, please post the logit.txt report and a new HijackThis log.
