"Your Computer Was Infected by an Unknwon Trojan"

Unread postby kllyjansen » February 9th, 2008, 11:32 am

Hello,

I had some family over this week and they have left me with a nasty on my computer.
I have searched the web and found that I am not the only one to experience this problem, but I am not as computer savy as the responses I read to the problem.

Everytime I load a new webpage or look into my computer I get this message:
"System Error!
Your computer was infected by an unknown trojan.
It's dangerous for your system (critical files can be lost)!

Click OK to download the antispyware program to clean your system! (Recommended)"

The OK takes you to IE.Defender which I recognize as a problem but which one of the kids must have already started to download because I found it on my desktop. I at that point manually removed in the Add/Remove section of My Computer but it must still be floating around somewhere.

I have Norton 360 but that did nothing. I have since bought and ran a few other programs including Ad-Aware, SpyHunter and Spyware Doctor. I have ran the Online Antivirus Scanners and they all find something but aren't able to do anything about it.

So anyways, here is my HiJackThis log. If someone can help me in a language that I will understand I would appreciate it immensely

Hi not meaning to bump up my post or anything but this problem seems to be getting worse and I am getting nervous. Is there anything I can do to protect my computer in the interim of waiting for a response? Disconnect it from the internet when I'm not checking on this forum?

Sorry, I'm just worried.

You can remove the following programs via Add/Remove Programs.

SpyHunter
URL Assistant
Viewpoint Media Player

Window Defender and Spyware Doctor should be sufficient. How much memory do you have installed???

If you turn off Vista eye candy, you will notice it speed up. Do you want to disable it??? Just let me know.

I like Vista so I guess I'll leave it as is. Things 'feel' like they are running better after I shut down and rebooted when all was said and done. Then again, I might not know what I'm talking about. :)

Okay, that's fine.

Image Your Java is out of date. Older versions have vulnerabilities that malware can use to infect your system. Please follow these steps to remove older version of Java components and upgrade the application. Beware it is NOT supported for use in 9x or ME and probably will not install in those systems

Ugrading Java:

 • Download the latest version of Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6u4.
 • Scroll down to where it says "The J2SE Runtime Environment (JRE) allows end-users to run Java applications".
 • Click the "Download" button to the right.
 • Check the box that says: "Accept License Agreement".
 • The page will refresh.
 • Click on the link to download Windows Offline Installation with or without Multi-language and save to your desktop.
 • Close any programs you may have running - especially your web browser.
 • Go to Start > Control Panel, double-click on Add/Remove programs and remove all older versions of Java.
 • Check any item with Java Runtime Environment (JRE or J2SE) in the name.
 • Click the Remove or Change/Remove button.
 • Repeat as many times as necessary to remove each Java version.
 • Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed.
 • Then from your desktop double-click on the download to install the newest version.

Please follow these instructions on creating a new restore point
