Help PLease Multiple infects I think....

Unread postby Mikesisson » January 30th, 2008, 4:55 pm

I have installed and run CClean, Spybot S&D, Webroot Spysweeper, PCtools SpyDoctor, and CA internet Security Suite. I keep coming up with Virtumonde, cydoor and several others that were of medium level on all of them. I currently have a memory leak - (The instruction at "0x7588ba9b" referenced memory at "0x00000000".The memory could not be "written".) and occasionally on line I end up with the ndis.sys bluescreen. I need help as soon as humanly possible. My CPU is horrible right now and I am very aggravated  at it...please help me. Thanks in advance... Here is my HJT Log:

Hello and welcome to the forums

My name is Katana and I will be helping you to remove any infection(s) that you may have.

Please observe these rules while we work:
1. If you don't know, stop and ask! Don't keep going on.
2. Please reply to this thread. Do not start a new topic.
3. Please continue to respond until I give you the "All Clear"
(Just because you can't see a problem doesn't mean it isn't there)

If you can do those three things, everything should go smoothly :D

I apologize for the delay in responding, but as you can probably see the forums are quite busy
and sometimes a post manages to slip by us.
Unfortunately there are far more people needing help than there are helpers.

Please note that all instructions given are customised for this computer only, the tools used may cause damage if used on a computer with different infections.

If you think you have similar problems, please post a log in the HJT forum and wait for help.

Unless informed of in advance, failure to post replies within 5 days will result in this thread being closed.

Installed Programs
Please could you give me a list of the programs that are installed.
  • Start HijackThis
  • Click on the Config button
  • Click on the Misc Tools button
  • Click on the Open Uninstall Manager button.
You will see a list with the programs installed in your computer.
Click on save list button and specify where you would like to save this file.
When you press Save button a notepad will open with the contents of that file.
Simply copy and paste the contents of that notepad into your next post.

VundoFix
Please download VundoFix.exe to your desktop.
  • Double-click VundoFix.exe to run it.
  • Click the Scan for Vundo button.
  • Once it's done scanning, click the Remove Vundo button.
  • You will receive a prompt asking if you want to remove the files, click YES
  • Once you click yes, your desktop will go blank as it starts removing Vundo.
  • When completed, it will prompt that it will reboot your computer, click OK.
  • Please post the contents of C:\\vundofix.txt and a new HiJackThis log.
Note: It is possible that VundoFix encountered a file it could not remove.
In this case, VundoFix will run on reboot, simply follow the above instructions starting from "Click the Scan for Vundo button." when VundoFix appears at reboot.

Rename HJT
Please open your Hijack This folder
  • Right click on Hijackthis.exe
  • Select Rename
  • Rename Hijack This to showme.exe
  • Double click showme
  • Click on the Do a system scan and save a log file button.

Please post all three logs in reply.

The Blue Screens sound like they are being caused by your network card, have you recently updated the drivers or changed it ?

Disable Teatimer
First step:
  • Right-click the Spybot Icon in the System Tray (looks like a blue/white calendar with a padlock symbol)
  • If you have the new version 1.5, Click once on Resident Protection, then Right click the Spybot icon again and make sure Resident Protection is now Unchecked. The Spybot icon in the System tray should now be now colorless.
  • If you have Version 1.4, Click on Exit Spybot S&D Resident
Second step, For Either Version :
  • Open Spybot S&D
  • Click Mode, choose Advanced Mode
  • Go To the bottom of the Vertical Panel on the Left, Click Tools
  • then, also in left panel, click Resident shows a red/white shield.
  • If your firewall raises a question, say OK
  • In the Resident protection status frame, Uncheck the box labeled Resident "Tea-Timer"(Protection of over-all system settings) active
  • OK any prompts.
  • Use File, Exit to terminate Spybot
  • Reboot your machine for the changes to take effect.

Disable SpySweeper
If you have Spy Sweeper version 4:
  • Open it, Click Options over on the left, then Program options
  • Uncheck load at windows startup.
  • Over to the left, Click shields and Uncheck all there.
  • Uncheck home page shield.
  • Uncheck automatically restore default without notification.
  • Reboot your computer, and verify SpySweeper is disabled.
If you have SpySweeper version 5:
  • Open SpySweeper, click Shield Settings on the right
(or Shields on the left, depending what screen you're on).
  • Click Internet Explorer and uncheck all items.
  • Click Windows System and uncheck all items.
  • Click Hosts File and uncheck all items.
  • Click Startup Programs and uncheck all items.
  • Close SpySweeper.
Reboot your computer, and verify Spy Sweeper is disabled.

No, I don't believe I have updated them (nic drivers) lately but I could be wrong on that.

As for Spybot search and Destroy. I was able to turn off TeaTimer but the icon was not in the tray. The only thing I can think of is that webroot loaded in first and does not allow it to completely install. I have seen it there before but it is not there now. I am using Spybot S&D 1.5.2. Any suggestions???

If you turned it off from within Spybot S&D then reboot it will be turned off for now.
Please fix the items that I mentioned with HJT.

Download and Run ComboFix (by sUBs)
Please visit this webpage for instructions for downloading and running ComboFix:

That doesn't look too bad :)
Are you still getting the blue screens ? if so when did they start, and how often do they happen ?

Kaspersky Online Scanner .
Your Antivirus and/or Antispyware may give a warning during the scan. This is perfectly normal
Go Here http://www.kaspersky.com/kos/eng/partne ... bscan.html

Read the Requirements and limitations before you click Accept.
Allow the ActiveX download if necessary
Once the database has downloaded, click Next.
Click Scan Settings and change the "Scan using the following antivirus database" from standard to extended and then click OK.
Click on "My Computer" and then put the kettle on!
When the scan has completed, click Save Report As...
Enter a name for the file in the Filename: text box and then click the down arrow to the right of Save as type: and select text file (*.txt)
Click Save - by default the file will be saved to your Desktop, but you can change this if you wish.

Please post the Kaspersky log in your reply

The ndis.sys irc_is_greater_than error I usually get as I am bopping around the internet and go to a login page from inside a site or try to purchase something. Doesn't happen all the time. ESPN likes to make it happen and sometimes Stage 6 and Amazon and a few others. Mostly it is just plain annoying because of it's randomness. :?

The other one shows almost exclusively in Outlook. If I have too many email it says good bye and up pops the blue screen. It has shown itself in explorer but just once or twice. Since I have started following your instructions the amount of BSOD's has gone down substantially. I am going to check My network drivers and also my USB drivers as the usb on this laptop is supposed to be 2.0 but it only is working at 1.1. Again aggravating. Any suggestions you have would be greatly appreciated. Thanks...

the other is hcxms.sys?( I get this one in outlook express mostly) The next time I get it I will post the proper driver

Did you get the actual name ?
Can you run the Kaspersky scan, or does IE crash ?

Please do the following

Download Deckard's System Scanner (DSS) to your Desktop. Note: You must be logged onto an account with administrator privileges.
  1. Close all applications and windows.
  2. Double-click on dss.exe to run it, and follow the prompts.
  3. When the scan is complete, two text files will open - main.txt <- this one will be maximized and extra.txt<-this one will be minimized
  4. Copy (Ctrl+A then Ctrl+C) and paste (Ctrl+V) the contents of main.txt and the extra.txt to your post. in your reply

1. No I haven't had that bsod appear in a week or so.

2. I am running Kaspersky at the moment and it is going slowly. No crash though.

It did crash two times yesterday once at ESPN again and once at NBA Message boards for the Cleveland Cavs. It seems to happen alot on Message boards. For some reason this board it has no problem with. But other Malware sites will cause the NDIS bsod when I would go to logon or just view posts.

Thanks for your help again....
