Hello, thanks in advance. I have a problem with pop-ups in my computer. I believe it is due to a file/driver called 'core.cache.dsk' in my windows/system32/drivers/ folder. I have taken steps such as rebooting in safe-mode to delete it, but only to see it come back to the same folder as soon as the computer reboots. I'm unsure if this is the culprit, but my Spybot/Adaware programs found it as one of the things that could not be deleted.

I am posting a very recent Hijackthis log and have turned Spybot's Resident off and restarted the computer prior to retaking the log.

I hope you can help. Thank you again.

Hello and Welcome to the forums!

My name is Gringo and I'll be glad to help you with your computer problems. HijackThis logs can take some time to research, so please be patient with me. I know that you need your computer working as quickly as possible, and I will work hard to help see that it happens.

Please reply to this thread, do not start another.
Please tell me about any problems that have occurred during the fix.
Please tell me of any other symptoms you may be having as these can help also.
Please try as much as possible not to run anything while executing a fix.

As I am still on training, everything that I post to you, must be checked by one of the teachers. Thus, there may be a tiny bit of a delay between posts, but it shouldn't be too long.

If you follow these instructions, everything should go smoothly.

we are currently looking at your log now and will be back as soon as possible with your instructions.
while you are waiting one other thing that can be of good use is an uninstall list so please do the following

Make an uninstall list using HijackThis
To access the Uninstall Manager you would do the following:

1. Start HijackThis
2. Click on the Config button
3. Click on the Misc Tools button
4. Click on the Open Uninstall Manager button.
5. Click on the Save list... button and specify where you would like to save this file. When you press Save button a notepad will open with the contents of that file. Simply copy and paste the contents of that notepad here in your next reply.

Hello sgtsasquaatch

it seems you have done some editing to this hijackthis log
in the next logs please don't do this as we need to see all the log has to say

multiple Anti Virus programs
You are operating your computer with multiple Anti Virus programs running in memory at once:

PC-cillin 2002
AVG7
Norton AntiVirus

Anti-virus programs take up an enormous amount of your computer's resources when they are actively scanning your computer. Having two anti-virus programs running at the same time can cause your computer to run very slow, become unstable and even, in rare cases, crash.

let me know which one you want to keep so we can uninstall the others

: run combo-fix :

Download Combofix from the link below, and save it to your desktop.

http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/sUBs/Combo-Fix.exe

**Note: It is important that it is saved directly to your desktop**

Reboot your computer in Safe Mode.

  • If the computer is running, shut down Windows, and then turn off the power.
  • Wait 30 seconds, and then turn the computer on.
  • Start tapping the F8 key. The Windows Advanced Options Menu appears. If you begin tapping the F8 key too soon, some computers display a "keyboard error" message. To resolve this, restart the computer and try again.
  • Ensure that the Safe Mode option is selected.
  • Press Enter. The computer then begins to start in Safe mode.
  • Login on your usual account.

Double click on combo-fix.exe & follow the prompts.
When finished, it will produce a report for you.

Note:Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it's running. That may cause it to stall

: information and logs :

In your next post I need the following

    1.combo-fix log
    2.unedited log from hijackthis
3.which antivirus do you want to keep
