Hi

I clicked on that link you provided. McAfee's Site Advisor has that marked with a red X, so it is not a recommended site to visit. It could be in your restricted sites in Internet Explorer, but once we are finished here you can reinstall Firefox, for which I will provide a link to the official mozilla site.

Backup Your Registry with ERUNT

  • Please use the following link and scroll down to ERUNT and download it.
    Here
  • For version with the Installer:
Use the setup program to install ERUNT on your computer
  • For the zipped version:
Unzip all the files into a folder of your choice.

Click Erunt.exe to backup your registry to the folder of your choice.

Please do this:

  • Copy the contents of the Code Box below to Notepad.
  • Name the file as fix.reg
  • Change the Save as Type to All Files
  • and Save it on the desktop

Code: Select all
REGEDIT4

[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\CLSID\{B5533239-2826-4FA8-BCFB-A9A44008FF4B}\InProcServer32]

[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\TypeLib\{A471012F-E2E5-48EB-9A8B-9D4090B1D0C7}\1.0\0\win32]

[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\App Management\ARPCache\adssite]

[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\App Management\ARPCache\AdssiteSocial]

[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\AdssiteSocial]

[-HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-21-395940934-1969455216-1065206239-1006\Software\Microsoft\adssite]

[HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-21-395940934-1969455216-1065206239-1006\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\TypedURLs]
"url5"=""

Make sure there are NO blank lines before REGEDIT4

Then double-click on the fix.reg file, and when it prompts to merge say yes.

Then post a new HijackThis log.

Hi

Just need to run a quick check.

Please do an online scan with Kaspersky Online Scanner. You may be prompted to install an ActiveX component from Kaspersky, Click Yes.
  • The program will launch and then start to download the latest definition files.
  • Once the scanner is installed and the definitions downloaded, click Next.
  • Now click on Scan Settings
  • In the scan settings make sure that the following are selected:
    • Scan using the following Anti-Virus database:

      + Extended(If available otherwise Standard)
    • Scan Options:

      + Scan Archives
      + Scan Mail Bases
  • Click OK
  • Now under select a target to scan select My Computer
  • The scan will take a while so be patient and let it run. Once the scan is complete it will display if your system has been infected.
  • Now click on the Save as Text button
  • Save the file to your desktop.
  • Copy and paste that information in your next post with a new HijackThis log.

With the exception of Internet Explorer, which is needed for the Kaspersky Scan, keep ALL programs closed until the scan is complete. This includes your anti-virus. Once you have installed the Scanner, and the updated definitions, you can disconnect from the Internet.Re-enable the anti-virus before reconnecting to the Internet.

Hi

Go here http://www.mozilla-europe.org/en/products/firefox/ to reinstall Firefox, then give it a whirl. Let us know that if there are any problems.

I have installed Foxfire. I'll try it for a couple of days and will let you know how things are going.

Question... do I leave Internet Explorer installed or do I uninstall it?

Thanks for all your time and help. I really appreciate it!!!

Hi

Internet Explorer is near impossible to remove, and not worth the attempt. I would suggest you just leave it installed, but continue using FF.

Congratulations, you appear to be malware free.

Double-click on OTMoveIt once more, then this time click on the Clean Up button, and allow it to do it's thing.

You may wish to keep hold of the Kaspersky Online Scan as an extra on-demand virus-scanner.
If not you can uninstall it through Start>Control Panel>Add/Remove Programs

Now we need to flush your System Restore points after ridding yourself of malware:

  • Click Start | Help and Support | Undo changes to your computer with System Restore.
  • Click Create A Restore Point then click Next. Give it a name it and then click Create, then Close.
  • Close the Help and Support Center box.
  • Click Start | Run and type Cleanmgr
  • Select (C: ) then click OK.
  • Click the More Options tab.
  • Click Clean Up in the System Restore Section.

This will remove all previous restore points except the newly created one.

Re hide your system files To do so, please follow the steps below:

  • Double-click My Computer.
  • Click the Tools menu, and then click Folder Options.
  • Click the View tab.
  • Put a check by "Hide file extensions for known file types."
  • Under the "Hidden files" folder, select "Do not show hidden files and folders."
  • Check "Hide protected operating system files."
  • Click Apply, and then click OK.

Here are two free programs I recommend.

Spybot Search and Destroy

Download it from here . Just choose a mirror and off you go.

Find here the tutorial on how to use Spybot properly here

Install WinPatrol

Download it from here

Here you can find information about how WinPatrol works here

Make sure your Windows is ALWAYS up to date!

An unpatched Windows is vulnerable and even with the "best" Antivirus and Firewall installed, malware will find its way through.

So visit http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/ to download and install the latest updates.

Update your Antivirus programs and other security products regularly to avoid new threats that could infect your system.

Please check out Tony Klein's article "How did I get infected in the first place?"

Follow this list and your potential for being infected again will reduce dramatically.

I'd be grateful if you could reply to this post so that I know you have read it and, if you've no other questions, the thread can be closed.
