i am currently trying to help an elderly lady with her pc. She seems to have many problems with it.

Hi jes x,

Welcome to the MalWare Removal forums! I’ll be glad to help you with your computer problems.
HijackThis logs can take some time to research, so please be patient with me. I know that you need
your computer working as quickly as possible, and I will work hard to help see that happens.

In order to help me help you, please observe the following while we work:
  1. If you don’t know, stop and ask! Don’t continue, we don’t want to start all over again!
  2. Understand that cleaning your computer can sometimes take multiple passes/posts,
    and it’s important to follow the steps as listed including re-running scans as listed
  3. Please reply to this thread, do not start another.

If you can do those three things, everything should go smoothly :D


1. Create a folder on the C: drive called C:\HJT\
    This is IMPORTANT:
  • You can do this by opening My Computer, then double clicking on C:, right click and select New then Folder and name it HJT.
  • Unzip HijackThis into this folder.
  • If required, look at this Hijackthis Folder Tutorial

2. Post the FULL LOG back here
  • (There are several lines missing from your first post, including the HJT version line)
  • If you do not have the latest version of HijackThis (currently 1.99.1), then please delete your old
    version, after downloading the newest version here
  • Unzip HJT to it’s own folder as outlined in step #1
  • Choose Do a system scan and save a logfile
  • After HJT performs its scan, you will be presented with the log (in notepad)
  • Press CTRL+A (this will select ALL of the text)
  • Press CTRL+C (this will copy all of that text)
  • Come to this thread and press CTRL+V to paste the full log.

I’ll get back to you as soon as I have a chance to review the new log!

It is ok, except for the location of HJT.
Please refer to my first post, item #1.
It is important that HJT not be run from a temporary
location, as HJT will create backups its same folder.
Please move it, re-run the scan and repost as per my first request
so we can get to the real fixin' :D

You may want to print these instructions for reference

We have a few malware processes and files which we need to get rid of.
Please be patient, and follow all of the instructions as given. Please do not reboot unless it is part
of the fix, or you have no other choice. While you are following the fix, you will find it helpful to have
a pen and paper handy to take any notes, so you can let me know what happens.
Typical information that will be helpful will be:
  • Files or folders that will not delete properly
  • Any errors that occur when following a fix or during bootup
  • Notes on your system’s operation (sluggish internet, popups, etc)

    The more information we have, the better our chances to clean your system!

1. I would like you to make sure windows shows your hidden files and folders:
    Click here if you need help doing this.

    PLEASE NOTE: Windows, by default, hides these files to help avoid accidental deletion.
    It is STRONGLY ADVISED that you re-hide these files once we have fixed your system!

2. Please download the following programs, save them to a convenient location, such as a folder on your desktop.
  • You can do this by right clicking on a blank part of your desktop, select New then Folder and name it FIX.
    (You can call the folder anything you like, just so you know where to find it later)
  • Save the following files into this folder

[list=1][*] Spybot Search & Destroy can be found here.
Install the program, Check for and install updates but do not scan yet.
[*] CCleaner can be downloaded from here
Install it and allow it to check for updates, but do not run it yet.
[*] Lavasoft Adaware SE can be found here
[i]Install the program, after the program has finished installing
uncheck[list] "Perform a full system scan now"

Hi, done all of the above.

I could not find the WINEXEC.EXE file

Windows would not let me delete the OSCEZ.DLL ( said it was locked)

Panda online virus scan seemed to freeze my pc ( or it was taking ages )

BUT - the good thing is that the annoying `toolbar` which would not go have now gone !!!! Yippeeeee..

Hi jes x,

I’m glad to hear the toolbar is gone, but there are still a few things we need to do to clean up completely.

1. I’d like you to download the following file:


2. Unregister the nasty .dll file:
  1. Click Start, then Run…, and type command
    This will open up a DOS command window
  2. Type Regsvr32 /u OSCEZ.DLL and hit Enter

3. Run HijackThis
  1. Choose Do a system scan only
  2. Place a check against the following line:

    O17 - HKLM\System\CCS\Services\VxD\MSTCP: NameServer = 69.50.168.180,85.255.112.26
  3. Click Fix checked and exit HJT.

4. Run Killbox.exe

  1. Copy the first item in the following list to the Clipboard:
    (Highlight it, and press CTRL+C)
    C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\OSCEZ.DLL
    C:\WINDOWS\WINEXEC.EXE
  2. Start Pocket Killbox.
  3. Click Delete a file on reboot.
  4. Click on the window below Full Path of File to Delete and paste the file
    (Either right click and choose Paste, or press CTRL+V)
  5. Click the red circle with a white cross .
  6. The program will ask you to confirm the delete. Answer yes.
  7. The program will ask you if you want to reboot. Answer NO.
  8. Repeat steps 3-6 for all remaining files (in this case, just C:\WINDOWS\WINEXEC.EXE)
  9. When you have pasted the final file, and your are asked if you want to reboot, answer YES


Allow the system reboot into normal mode.

5. Please run a (hopefully final) HJT log and post back here, let me know of any problems you might encounter.

Thanks woody for all your help. I had to give the pc back to the woman early this morning so i was unable to carry out your last requests. I am sorry about that.
The last log post was the latest stage i was up to. Am i correct in thinking that even though the pc was not completly clean of all the `pests` it will still work ok though ????

Well jes x,

I believe you are correct that the system will still work OK
however,
    O17 - HKLM\System\CCS\Services\VxD\MSTCP: NameServer = 69.50.168.180,85.255.112.26

indicates that all of the browser requests needing DNS resolution (i.e. pretty much ALL requests)
are being forwarded to the Aprivo netblock (well known for porn and scumware hosting) :(

I missed that one on the first pass, sorry about that :oops:

I suggest that if you get a chance, try to make the suggested fix, to hopefully
avoid future headaches, as it is likely the system will become reinfected before long.
