Actually not quite self serving but interesting, at least from my point of view if I think back to 1985. Then it was all either BASIC, or variations of Assembly Language and Machine Code in the UK with the O level curriculum for Computer Studies.
Still have one of the text books required, Introduction to Microcomputer Programming by Peter C Sanderson. Showing my age now .
My sons "IT" teacher ( and I use the word very loosely ) has asked if my son would be willing to teach him during the dinner breaks, as he (the Teacher) has no idea what he is doing !!!
He said he had never used a computer where you needed to enter a password to logon

cannot help but chuckle but in fact katana that is down right disgraceful. How on earth this individual holds such a responsible position is a eye opener .

What do you mean, one machine per village, one machine per city more like (poverty's bad over here, only one cup of gruel a week), but at least our teachers are on nodding terms with how to use them.

Ahh, those were the good old days weren't they. Still have a Tandy Model 100 (one of the first laptops) and a PC2 Pocket Computer. I did have a Coco but I gave that to IBC Tech Lab so the instructors can show students how much technology has changed in 20 years.
