System Error! Pop Up

Like apparently many before me, I have the dreaded System Error pop up. It specifically says;

System Error!

Your computer was infected by Trojan win32.murlo (unknown variant). It’s dangerous to your system (critical files can be lost)!

Click OK to download the antispyware program to clean your system! (Recommended)

Of course if you click, it takes you to a download for a file named setup1.exe from Files-secure.com. which I'm sure cures all your problems.( I didn't download the file).

I have run Spybot-S&D, Ad-Aware and even Windows Defender. I also ran a2, one of the Trojan Hunter tools. I also have Macaffe for an anti virus program which updates automatically and runs daily. The antisyware programs found a few things which didn't appear to be very dangerous.

I ran the Hijack file after cleaning things up with the above programs. After being on the internet for 14 years I finally picked up something I can't fix. Things are getting tough out there for the average person. Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

Please do the following...

1. I need to see another log from HijackThis.

• Run Hijackthis.
• Click on Open the Misc Tools section.
• Next click on Open uninstall manager.
• Press the Save list button.
• Save the file to your desktop, with the default name of uninstall_list
• Copy & Paste the entire contents of that file in your in your next post.

2. Download SmitfraudFix (by S!Ri) to your Desktop.

Extract all the files to your Destop. A folder named SmitfraudFix will be created on your Desktop.

Open the SmitfraudFix folder and double-click smitfraudfix.cmd
Select option #1 - Search by typing 1 and press Enter
This program will scan large amounts of files on your computer for known patterns so please be patient while it works. When it is done, the results of the scan will be displayed and it will create a log named rapport.txt in the root of your drive, eg: Local Disk C: or partition where your operating system is installed. Please post that log along with all others requested in your next reply.

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run any other options until you are asked to do so!

2. Click Start > Run > type: appwiz.cpl > Press OK. Uninstall the following, if present:

Wow! It is gone! Thank you. I'd recommend this site to anyone out there having malware problems. This has even been sort of fun.

I beleive I removed everything you reqested and following is the new HijackThisLog. I would like to get rid of Spyhunter and I see it is not on the add/delete program list so I would need some help with that. Also, I removed the last two items from your preceding response (the 06 items) even though I did have SpyBot's immunize feature set. Should I "re-immunize" with SpyBot or don't you recommend this?

When I removed SafeCast Shared Components it gave a warning that removing may "break" something and it referred specifically to Turbo Tax 2002 which I don't need. I haven't noticed any problems because of this -just though I'd let you know.

Should I "re-immunize" with SpyBot or don't you recommend this?

Re-immunize with Spybot and post a new HijackThis log. If the O6 entries appear then I would say avoid "re-immunzing".

I would like to get rid of Spyhunter and I see it is not on the add/delete program list so I would need some help with that.

Go to C:\Program Files\Enigma Software Group\SpyHunter and have a look for an uninstall .exe file. If there is one, run that. If not, there are instructions Here which say to re-download SpyHunter. If you do not want to do that we can remove SpyHunter with HijackThis.


Let me know what you decide with regards to SpyHunter and Spybots re-immunize feature. Also, post a new HijackThis log please.

Hello,

I think I'll pass on immunizing with spy bot. It sounds like it may not be worth the risk. I couldn't find the uninstall for SpyHunter or anything else related to Spyhunter. I'd rather not download it again so I'd like some help removing it with HijackThis.

I removed smitfraudfix by just deleting it from my desktop. I didn't see a way to uninstall it.

- Check the following entries (below)

- Click Fix Checked
Close HiajckThis

2. Find and delete the following Folder in RED:

C:\Program Files\Enigma Software Group

3. Click Start > Search > All Files and Folders.
Expand More advanced options and make sure these boxes are checked

• Search system folders
• Search hidden files and folders
• Search subfolders

Paste this into the Search box at the top:

SpyHunter

If anything is found related SpyHunter, delete it.

4. Please post a new HijackThis log, and let me know how things are.

Hi Ron889,

There is an update to Java that you should download.

Updating Java:

• Download the latest version of Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 update4.
• Scroll down to where it says "The J2SE Runtime Environment (JRE) allows end-users to run Java applications."
• Click the "Download" button to the right.
• Check the box that says: "Accept License Agreement."
• The page will refresh.
• Click on the link to download Windows Offline Installation with or without Multi-language and save to your desktop.
• Close any programs you may have running - especially your web browser.
• Go to Start > Control Panel double-click on Add/Remove programs and remove the following...
  
  • Java(TM) 6 Update 3
• Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed.
• Then from your desktop double-click on jre-6u4-windows-i586-p.exe to install the newest version.

Apart from that, the HijackThis log is clean.

Let me know if there any other problems, or if we can archive this thread.
