i386p makes the internet not work

Unread postby kjohnson » December 21st, 2007, 7:45 pm

I'm running Windows XP SP2, IE 7, Mozilla Firefox, Norton Anti Virus, and Zone Alarm. I'm also running CYBERsitter version 9, although I've been running that for a long time without any problems. I have three user logons two with admin privileges one without.
For a couple of weeks, every time I boot the system I am unable to use Internet Explorer or Firefox. When I open IE I get a message saying "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage" and allows me to "Diagnose Connection Problems." I click on it and a few moments later I get this message:
Quote:
Windows has detected a problem with the following layered service provider (LSP): i386p. Would you like to remove this LSP? This computer might need to be restarted to restore network connectivity.
I click "yes" to remove the LSP and then select the option to view the diagnostic log. It shows the following:

WinSock Diagnostic

info All base service provider entries are present in the Winsock catalog.

info System restart required

Then a message tells me the computer needs to be restarted. When I click "yes" the computer reboots. If I login to one of the account with admin privileges, the LSP entires reappear, again blocking me from using IE. However, if I just close IE without rebooting, and then reopen IE, everything works fine --- until the next time I reboot. I can also logon to the account without admin privileges after rebooting and everything works fine.

I ran Norton Antivirus virus scan and it found nothing. I also ran Spybot - Search & Destroy, and SUPERAntiSpyware. Nothing!

I have run the HijackThis system scan and this is the log file:

almost on a whim I decide to uninstall Cybersitter and then I reinstalled it, and now everything works fine. Cybersitter must have gotten corrupted.

No thanks, I actually just got an email from cybersitter and they said that norton released updates and it was these updates that ended up corrupting cybersitter. For some reason the update viewed cybersitter as spyware, but norton fixed the problem so when I reinstalled cybersitter it all worked fine.
