Hijack this log - do I have a problem?

Unread postby tommyo » December 13th, 2007, 5:26 pm

I've just moved house and my desk top does not seem to want to shut down now - it seemed to be working ok at my previous address - now it appears to power down to a black screen then the fan builds up speed and continues (all night if allowed to). I've tried downloading all the recommended software at the top of the forum and this found a few suspicious files but this problem continues. I even changed my firewall and antivirus from AVG to kaspersky to see if this would help (license was up for renewal soon). If the log is ok could this be a heat related problem? - at the previous house I kept the cover off the computer and now i have replaced the case as my girlfriend doesn't like it uncovered. Thanks for any advice or help you can provide - here is the hijackthis log:

Hello and welcome to the forums

My name is Katana and I will be helping you to remove any infection(s) that you may have.

I apologize for the delay in responding, but as you can probably see the forums are quite busy
and sometimes a post manages to slip by us.
Unfortunately there are far more people needing help than there are helpers.

There is no malware evident in your log, it is possible that some hardware got damaged or dislodged during the move.

Thankyou for responding, that is very reassuring.

I did get originally get an error message on startup that win32 services had to close due to an error but this seems to have stopped now I have installed kaspersky. Could this be related to my computer not turning off properly and your suspicion of a hardware problem?

The win32 problem doesn't sound hardware related, unless the hard drive was damaged.
Let's do a couple of scans to make sure nothing is lurking.

Deckard's System Scanner
Download Deckard's System Scanner (DSS) to your Desktop. Note: You must be logged onto an account with administrator privileges.
  1. Close all applications and windows.
  2. Double-click on dss.exe to run it, and follow the prompts.
  3. When the scan is complete, two text files will open - main.txt <- this one will be maximized and extra.txt<-this one will be minimized
  4. Copy (Ctrl+A then Ctrl+C) and paste (Ctrl+V) the contents of main.txt and the extra.txt to your post. in your reply

There is nothing showing there, so I suspect it is the move that has caused your problems.

You could try one of the tech forums, see if they have any ideas.
Bleepingcomputer.com
Castlecops.com
Whatthetech.com

Sorry I couldn't be of more help.
