meltingsand,
Welcome to the forum.

To check on irftp.exe, use Windows explorer, navigate to C:\Windows\system32\irftp.exe. Set View for details. Right click it. Select Properties.
It should check as a Microsoft program, 149k bytes. latest version is 5.1.2600.2180. It is a Wireless Link File Transfer Application. (Related to your Bluetooth)
If you check C:\Windows\Service Pack Files\i386\ for that file, you should get the same result.
In the event the file checks as advertised, you can ignore the a-squared warnings.
-----------------------------------------------------------
Set Your Computer to Show All Files
Go to My Computer->Tools/View->Folder Options->View tab and make sure that 'Show hidden files and folders' (or 'Show all files') is enabled. Also make sure that 'Display the contents of system folders' is checked. In addition, if you have Windows XP, go to Start, Search. When you click on 'All files and folders' on the left pane, click on the 'More advanced options' at the bottom. Make sure that 'Search system folders', 'Search hidden files and folders', and 'Search subfolders' are checked.
-----------------------------------------------------------
Disable A-Squared Guard
- Open a-square
- Click on Configure Background-Guard
- Deselect Enable background guard on system startup
- Close window
- Close a-square
- Reboot your machine for the changes to take effect.
-----------------------------------------------------------
FlashGet packages itself with Cydoor adware and is supposed to remove the adware if you register.
I would recommend removing this software. I suggest you remove it via the Control Panel's Add/Remove Programs feature.
Unless you choose to keep it, we will also fix the associated entries below with HijackThis.
-----------------------------------------------------------
Remove log items with HighjackThis. Start HijackThis. If the opening screen shows, choose None of the above, just start the program.
Click Scan. When the Scan is complete, Check the following entries:
(Some of these lines may be missing)
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://red.clientapps.yahoo.com/customi ... earch.html
O2 - BHO: IeCatch2 Class - {A5366673-E8CA-11D3-9CD9-0090271D075B} - C:\PROGRA~1\FlashGet\jccatch.dll

O15 - Trusted Zone: http://www.contentwatch.com
O20 - Winlogon Notify: atmgrtok - atmgrtok.dll (file missing)

Make sure all other windows except HJT are closed, and Click Fix Checked.
-----------------------------------------------------------
Post a New HJT Log
Reboot your computer. Start HijackThis. Click Do System Scan and Save a Log File.
When the Scan is complete, select the whole log (Ctrl-A), copy and paste the log contents in a reply. Please do not use Word Wrap when you paste in the reply.

can I keep flash get if I register it?

Unread postby meltingsand » September 1st, 2005, 7:21 pm

I have grown somewhat attached to flashget. If I pay for the fully registered version is it safe to keep it?

It is free of "adware", according to FlashGet.

Whether you trust them in the long run, or not, is up to you. Based on the damage inflicted upon some machines by Cydoor, you should be very wary of the company's scruples.

If you choose to register it, Proceed as planned, omitting checks on the lines containing FlashGet.

edit : see this about the "adware" used if you don't register -
