Unread postby ndmmxiaomayi » December 4th, 2007, 7:56 am

Hi nellAboR. :)

Welcome to Malware Removal.

Please do the following accordingly:

Step 1

Please download SmitFraudFix.exe by S!Ri and save it to the desktop.

If you can't download it, please download it from these alternative sites:

From Geekstogo
From Security Cadets
From Zebulon

  1. Double click on SmitfraudFix.exe.
  2. Press 1 then hit the Enter key.
  3. It will create a report named rapport.txt, usually at C drive.
  4. Please post back this log in your next reply.

Note: process.exe is detected by some antivirus programs (AntiVir, Dr.Web, Kaspersky) as a "RiskTool"; it is not a virus, but a program used to stop system processes. Antivirus programs cannot distinguish between "good" and "malicious" use of such programs, therefore they may alert the user. Read more here

Step 2

  1. Open HijackThis.
  2. Click on the Open the Misc Tools section button.
  3. Look under System tools.
  4. Click on the Open Uninstall Manager... button.
  5. Click on the Save list... button.
  6. It will prompt you to save. Save this log in a convenient location. By default it's named uninstall_list.txt.
  7. Notepad will open. Please post this log in your next reply.

Step 3

Please open Notepad and copy and paste the following in the Code box into Notepad:

Code: Select all
if exist C:\peek*.txt del /q C:\peek*.txt
if exist C:\startup.txt del /q C:\startup.txt
regedit /e C:\peek1.txt "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Shared Tools\MSConfig\startupreg"
regedit /e C:\peek2.txt "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Shared Tools\MSConfig\startupfolder"
regedit /e C:\peek3.txt "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\microsoft\shared tools\msconfig\services"
type C:\peek*.txt >> C:\startup.txt
del /q C:\peek*.txt
start notepad C:\startup.txt

Click on File > Save As....

In the File Name box, copy and paste in msconfig.bat

In the Save As Type box, select All Files from the drop-down list.

Click Save.

Double click on msconfig.bat to run it. Command Prompt will open and close quickly; this is normal. Notepad will open shortly afterwards. Please post the contents of this Notepad file in your next reply.

In your next reply, please post:

  1. Smitfraudfix report (C:\rapport.txt)
  2. A new HijackThis log
  3. The Uninstall list
  4. Contents of Notepad file from Step 3 (C:\startup.txt)

Unread postby ndmmxiaomayi » December 4th, 2007, 1:37 pm

Hi nellAboR,

Step 1

Please copy this set of instructions or print it out as you will not have internet access during the fix.

Restart the computer in Safe Mode

  1. When you see the BIOS screen, start pressing F8.
  2. A boot menu will appear shortly.
  3. Using the up down arrows, select Safe Mode and press the Enter key.
  4. Windows will now load.
  5. Log in to your usual account.

Once in Safe Mode, double-click on SmitfraudFix.exe.

Press 2 and press Enter to delete infected files.

You will be prompted: Registry cleaning - Do you want to clean the registry ?; press Y and press Enter in order to start cleaning the cleaning process. Your desktop will be gone for a while cleaning.

The tool will now check if wininet.dll is infected. You will be prompted to replace the infected file (if found); press Y and press Enter.

The tool will restart your computer to finish the cleaning process; if it doesn't, please restart manually into Normal Mode.

A text file will appear onscreen, with results from the cleaning process; please copy and paste the contents of that report into your next reply. The report can also be found at the root of the system drive, usually at C:\rapport.txt

Note to other users: Running option 2 on a clean machine will remove your desktop background.

Step 2

  1. Click on Start > Control Panel and double click on Add/Remove Programs.
  2. Locate AdwareAlert 3.6.6.6 and click on the Change/Remove button to uninstall it.
  3. Repeat for this program: GamesBar 1.0.0.9
  4. Close Add/Remove Programs and Control Panel.

Step 3

  1. Open HijackThis.
  2. Click on the Open the Misc Tools section button.
  3. Look under System tools.
  4. Click on the Open Uninstall Manager... button.
  5. On the left hand side, select eKEY.
  6. On the right, click on Edit uninstall command button.
  7. Please post this command in your next reply.

In your next reply, please post:

  1. Smitfraudfix report (C:\rapport.txt)
  2. A new HijackThis log
  3. The Uninstall command from Step 3

Hi Xubuntu,

I am unable to complete all of step 2.
When I click to remove AdwareAlert 3.6.6.6 in Add/Remove Programs area of Control Panel; I get the following message:
File " C:\Program Files\AdwareAlert\unins000.dat" does not exist. Cannot uninstall.

However, GamesBar 1.0.0.9 was uninstalled.

I will stop here until receipt of further instruction. 8)

Hi nellAboR,

Have you managed to run Step 1?

The Smitfraudfix report is a wrong one.

Please post the new Smitfraudfix report (C:\rapport.txt).

O3 - Toolbar: The jokwmp - {D71F3444-606D-46EB-9ABE-DF80E5E9BF67} - C:\WINDOWS\jokwmp.dll (file missing)
O15 - Trusted Zone: http://switch.atdmt.com

Click Fix checked. Close HijackThis.

  6. Uncheck (untick) Hide extensions of known file types.
  7. Uncheck (untick) Hide protected operating system files (Recommended).
  8. Click Yes when prompted.
  9. Click OK.

Navigate to C:\Windows folder and delete these files if they are present:

C:\WINDOWS\popnetdpt.dll
C:\WINDOWS\jokwmp.dll

Please delete these folders if they are present:

C:\Program Files\GamesBar
C:\Program Files\AdwareAlert

Step 3

Please backup your registry before proceeding to any of the steps.

____________________

Open Notepad and copy and paste the following in the Code box into Notepad:

Code: Select all
