Available RAM below 100Mb at start

I have a machine with 256 Mb of RAM. When I check in my BIOS all 256 Mb are shown. When I boot up into the OS (XP Professional) I only have 74Mb of available memory and all my programs run very slow. I have run all adware and spybot programs and they find nothing. I have a program called RAMCleaner that cleans ram and reallocates used pages this is how I came to the conclusion that something is draining my memory, but what?

post a HJT log (check the link above for 'new to the board') and we will have a look.

256mb is small for winXP pro - so it may just be the free ram after you load windows is just that size left, HJT will show if it might be something else, if not it may show some programs loading that you do not need.
