Computer problem

Unread postby aktapol » August 16th, 2005, 6:47 pm

I hope you can help me with this problem. My computer screen began to flash incessantly evertime a program would load or I moved the mouse. Now, the computer would only turn on in safe mode. The last time I attempted to do a normal boot this is the message I received, nv4_disp, device drive stuck in infinite loop. Thank you for any help you can offer.

Hello, and welcome to the forums. :)

Your HijackThis log looks good, with only one minor orphaned entry to be fixed. Of course, since it had to be done in safe mode, not everything is visible that would be shown in normal mode. However, I do not believe your problem is the result of a malware infection.

To remove the orphaned entry, please close all programs leaving only HijackThis running. Place a check against the following entry, making sure you get just this one, and not any others by mistake:

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {549B5CA7-4A86-11D7-A4DF-000874180BB3} - (no file)

Click on "Fix Checked" when finished and exit HijackThis.

Unfortunately, the error message you're getting, "nv4_disp, device drive stuck in infinite loop," is not so easily dispatched. The best I can do is refer you to the following article:
http://www.viaarena.com/default.aspx?Pa ... leID=9&P=1

Hopefully, there will be information there that you will find to be helpful.

Thank you for your help. I contacted Dell and they think it is a problem related to old video drivers. However, it is still not resolved. If you are interested, I will post a reply if and when it is resolved. The link to the article was very informative and it appeared that Dell was trying many of the things explained in that link.

I finally got tired of dealing with Dell as they were more or less useless. I have my important info backed up so I just ended up reformatting the hard drive and starting over. I have heard from word of mouth that the Mcafee products do cause a lot of problems similar to this so I am going to avoid it eventhough Comcast, my cable internet provider, provides it for free. Thanks again for your help.

Thank you so much for coming back to give us this update. :)

I'm sorry you had to resort to reformatting the hard drive, but with this particular problem, in the long run it was probably your best available option.

Best of luck to you! Image
