Hi Mortalis,
-----------------------------------------------------------
Set Your Computer to Show All Files
Go to My Computer->Tools/View->Folder Options->View tab and make sure that 'Show hidden files and folders' (or 'Show all files') is enabled. Also make sure that 'Display the contents of system folders' is checked. In addition, if you have Windows XP, go to Start, Search. When you click on 'All files and folders' on the left pane, click on the 'More advanced options' at the bottom. Make sure that 'Search system folders', 'Search hidden files and folders', and 'Search subfolders' are checked.
-----------------------------------------------------------
Disable Ad-Aware's AdWatch
- Open AdAware SE.
- Go to AdWatch User Interface.
- Go to Tools and Preferences.
- At the bottom of the screen you will see two options, Active and Automatic.
Active turns Ad-Watch On\Off without closing it
Automatic blocks suspicious activity automatically
- Uncheck both options.
- Reboot your machine for the changes to take effect.
If AdWatch is still not disabled, you may have to uninstall it temporarily. If it is not properly disabled, you will see it in the running processes, and an O4 line in the log. It will likely interfere with any fix if it is still running.
-----------------------------------------------------------
Download DLLCompare.
Double-click on DllCompare.exe to run the program.
Click "Run Locate.com" and it will scan your system for files.
Once the scan has finished click "Compare" to compare your files to valid Windows files.
Once it has finished comparing click "Make a Log of what was found".
Click "Yes" at the View Log file? prompt to view the log.
Copy and paste the entire log into this topic, along with your new HJT log .
If you accidentally close out of the log it is also saved as log.txt in the location where you saved DllCompare.exe.
Click "Exit" to exit DLLCompare.
-----------------------------------------------------------
Remove log items with HighjackThis. Start HijackThis. If the opening screen shows, choose None of the above, just start the program.
Click Scan. When the Scan is complete, Check the following entries:
(Some of these lines may be missing)

R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = res://C:\WINDOWS\system32\vzvvt.dll/sp.html#37049
R3 - Default URLSearchHook is missing
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {0C2D58AD-B9FF-F073-94B2-F794E4658C89} - (no file)

Make sure all other windows except HJT are closed, and Click Fix Checked.
-----------------------------------------------------------
Post a New HJT Log
Reboot your computer. Start HijackThis. Click Do System Scan and Save a Log File.
When the Scan is complete, select the whole log (Ctrl-A), copy and paste the log contents in a reply. Please do not use Word Wrap when you paste in the reply.
Be sure to include the log from DLLCompare.

Mortalis,

Your log is clean. Good job!
One or two suggestions to follow on:
-----------------------------------------------------------
Install SpywareBlaster - SpywareBlaster will added a large list of programs and sites to your Internet Explorer settings that will protect you from accidentally running or downloading known malicious programs. Available from http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html
After the installation, click Download Latest Protection Updates. When it finishes, clickEnable All Protection.
-----------------------------------------------------------
Download and Install a HOSTS File
Available from here : http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/hosts.htm
This will block access to thousands of malicious websites. If you use a proxy server or if you are on AOL, be sure to read the special instructions.
-----------------------------------------------------------
ReEnable Ad-Aware's AdWatch
- Open AdAware SE.
- Go to AdWatch User Interface.
- Go to Tools and Preferences.
- At the bottom of the screen you will see two options, Active and Automatic.
Active turns Ad-Watch On\Off without closing it
Automatic blocks suspicious activity automatically
- Check both options.
- Reboot your machine for the changes to take effect.
LATE EDIT: removed leftover line about DISABLING AdWatch
-----------------------------------------------------------
Order Service Pack2 for WinXP on CD and install it. SP2 provides many extra security features, and is really necessary for our present threats.
Order (free) from here: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloads/updates/sp2/cdorder/en_us/default.mspx

Good Luck,
