HJT failed to initialize; AdAware detections corrupted

I'd love to post a HijackThis! log, but I received a message stating:

This application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000006). Click on OK to terminate the program.

I also had corrupted AdAware detections when I booted up AdAware SE.

Per Merjin's site, I downloaded and ran the SmartKiller mini removal program, but it did not detect CoolWWWSearch.SmartKiller. I then downloaded the newest version of HJT!, but had the same popup.

Spybot S&D did not detect anything, so I'm wondering what to do next.

I was able to install AdAware 2007 (through MajorGeeks - it was being blocked from download.com). It logs an unhandled exception when it hits the following:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\tapiui.dll
