However, Spybot does not seem to remove it properly. I ran it with system restore off, it seemed to disappear, and then it's back again. Can't work out WHAT it is doing, but my PC hangs in My Computer ALL the time.

I run AVG free - must have let this in?

Here's my HijackThis log. Thanks to all this.

Hi JeremyP,

First, it's very important to have System Restore turned on at all times. It is an important safety net in case anything goes wrong, and an infected Restore Point is better than no restore point at all.

Right-click My Computer (from the desktop or Start Menu)
Click Properties and choose the System Restore tab
Make sure Turn off System Restore is NOT checked
Click OK, you may need to wait a moment while Windows makes a new Restore Point.

Next, I'd like to see what Spybot has been removing:

Open Spybot - Search & Destroy
Select Mode->Advanced Mode and Yes to the prompt
Select Tools and View Report from the menu on the left side
Click the View previous report button, select the most recent log which starts with the word Fixes and press Open
Check that this log includes the detection you are concerned with - if not, select another log which does
Then press Export, save a copy of the report to your Desktop and post it in your next response.

Download Deckard's System Scanner (DSS)
  • Close all applications and windows.
  • Double-click on dss.exe to run it, and follow the prompts.
  • When the scan is complete, two text files will open - main.txt <- this one will be maximized and extra.txt<-this one will be minimized
  • Make sure Format->Word Wrap is unchecked
  • Copy (Ctrl+A then Ctrl+C) and paste (Ctrl+V) the contents of main.txt and extra.txt in your reply

Once complete, please post the Spybot report and both DSS logs, you won't need to produce a new HijackThis log as DSS produces one for you.
The logs may not fit into one post so please check that they are complete and use multiple posts if necessary.
