Hello!! My mouse seems to want to do its own thing and my computer's running slow. Both Kaspersky and Trend Micro say I'm clean, but I don't believe them. Here is my HJT log.

Hi lorenr,
Tell me about the mouse behavior and whether you have an optical mouse.
-----------------------------------------------------------
Download Blacklight Beta from here:
https://europe.f-secure.com/exclude/blacklight/fsbl.exe
* Download fsbl.exe and save it to C:\
Go to Start, Run, copy in the following text and press Enter:
C:\fsbl.exe /expert
(space between fsbl.exe and /expert)

Accept the agreement, leave [X]scan through Windows Explorer checked.
Click > scan, Then > next
You'll see a list of all items found.
Don't choose Rename if something was found!
There will also be a log in C:\ with the name fsbl.xxxxxxx.log (the xxxxxxx stands for numbers).
Copy and paste the contents of this log into your next reply.
----------------------------------------------------------
Download and Install CCleaner
  • Download CCleaner from here
  • Double click on ccsetupXXX_slim.exe to start the installation of CCleaner. (XXX is the version number)
  • Click OK
  • Click Next
  • Click I agree
  • Click Next
  • Click Install
  • Once the installation has finished, click Finish
-----------------------------------------------------------
Set Options in CCleaner and run Cleaning Scan.
Open CCleaner if it's not already running.
( Do not use the Issues block to clean anything with this program. It is for experts only and it is risky).
  • Select Cleaner Settings.
Check Internet Explorer, Windows Explorer, and System so that all items are checked. In the Advanced section, have a check only on Old PreFetch Data.
  • Click on the Options block on the left. Select Advanced.
Uncheck Only delete files in Windows Temp folders older than 48 hours.
  • Set Cookie Retention.
Click on the Options block on the left, then choose Cookies.
Under the Cookies to delete pane, highlight any cookies you would like to retain permanently (those companies or sites with which you regularly visit or do business), and click the right arrow > to move them to the Cookies to keep pane.
  • Run Cleaning Scan. Click on the Cleaner block on the left. Choose the Windows tab.
Click the Run Cleaner button. This process could take a while. When CCleaner shows how much has been removed, cleaning is finished.
-----------------------------------------------------------
Reset Options in CCleaner for Regular Use.
Open CCleaner if it's not already running.
  • Under Internet Explorer, Uncheck History.
  • Click on the Options block on the left. Select Advanced.
Check Only delete files in Windows Temp folders older than 48 hours.
  • Set CCleaner to Run When Computer Starts. Click on the Options block on the left, then choose Settings. Check Run Ccleaner when computer starts.
Exit CCleaner by clicking on the X button in the upper right of the CCleaner window.
--------------------------------------------------------
Right Button click Start, choose Explore, right click the C: drive and choose properties.
Please record what it reports for Used space and Free space on the drive and report that back in your next post.

So we will be looking for a Blacklight log, the Used/Free space information, and comments about the mouse.

I do have an optical mouse. It was running fine and all of a sudden, "Poof", it had a mind of its own. I have to double click 10 to 20 times to select, when I move the mouse the cursor will sometimes move and sometimes not, very frustrating. I have recently changed the batteries (and I've already tried new ones), it just doesn't work right.

I've tried to download fsbl.exe. I can download it, but when I click save, a window opens up that has "Save as" and there is a drop down menu that has a bunch of stuff in it, one of the choices being "local disc C:" but it won't let me type in C:\. So, I opened fsbl.exe and ran it and it found the following: "kdemw.exe"
I just closed it after running, didn't clean, and that's where I am now.
What do I do now?
Thanks!!

lorenr,
There is a file you can find using My Computer in the C:\ drive.
Just double click C:, the look for a file (not a yellow folder) named fsblxxxx.log, where xxxx is a bunch of numbers.
Please use Notepad, open that file, and copy and paste the contents in a reply.
Thanks,

Opened "My Computer", clicked on "Local Disk C", there is nothing there starting with fsblxxxx.log. There are a bunch of file folders and a bunch of text documents but no fsblxxxx.log. I must be doing something wrong.
I'm guessing I haven't downloaded or saved fsbl.exe correctly?

That's right.
That is the same place you are supposed to save the Blacklight download which is named fsbl.exe

lorenr,
Follow this instruction carefully.
Open up Blacklight again, press "Scan" and let it scan the system again.
When it finishes scanning, hit the "Next" button.
In the window that you see next, left-click on the following item and hit the "Rename" button:

Hidden file: c:\WINDOWS\system32\kdemw.exe

After you have selected the file you would like to rename, you should press the "Next" button.
A warning screen will now show stating that renaming legitimate files can cause Windows not to operate properly.
Put a checkmark in the checkbox labeled "I have understood the warning and wish to continue" and then press the "OK" button.
You should then press "Restart Now", and then the "OK" button again, to restart your computer.
-----------------------------------------------------------
Post a New HJT Log
Start HijackThis. Click Do System Scan and Save a Log File.
When the Scan is complete, select the whole log (Ctrl-A), copy and paste the log contents in a reply.

lorenr,
I don't see any further difficulties from malware evidenced in your log or in the scans we have run.

If you are satisfied, we can sign off.

If your mouse is still acting up, I can only suggest a new one. (I've had a couple bad ones myself).

Thank you so much. My mouse seems to be working fine now. I do have one question. I see an entry on the HJT log,
"011 - Options group: [INTERNATIONAL] International*".
I have not seen this on any of my previous HJT scans. Do you have any idea of what it is and do I need it?

That entry is OK.
That entry comes with IE7 so you can browse to foreign language website names.
Microsoft wrote:Browser support for navigating to URLs written in users' native languages is critical for making the Internet truly international. Internet Explorer 7 permits navigation to Internationalized Domain Names (IDN) composed of Unicode characters from all of the world's languages.
