Hi jakerthebaker6,

Download SmitfraudFix (by S!Ri) to your Desktop.
http://siri.urz.free.fr/Fix/SmitfraudFix.exe

Double-click SmitfraudFix.exe
Select option #1 - Search by typing 1 and press Enter
This program will scan large amounts of files on your computer for known patterns so please be patient while it works. When it is done, the results of the scan will be displayed and it will create a log named rapport.txt in the root of your drive, eg: Local Disk C: or partition where your operating system is installed.

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run any other options until you are asked to do so!

If the tool fails to launch from the Desktop, please move SmitfraudFix.exe directly to the root of the system drive (usually C: ), and launch from there.

Note: process.exe is detected by some antivirus programs as a "RiskTool"; it is not a virus, but a program used to stop system processes. Antivirus programs cannot distinguish between "good" and "malicious" use of such programs, therefore they may alert the user. Further info is available here.

Next, move HijackThis from the desktop to it's own folder:
  • Open My Computer, navigate to C:\ and make a new folder named HJT
  • Move the HijackThis.exe program file from your desktop to C:\HJT
  • If you wish to place a shortcut to HijackThis on your desktop, then right-click hijackthis.exe, select Send To and choose Desktop (create shortcut)

Now open HijackThis, select Open the Misc Tools section
Press the Open Uninstall Manager... button, then press Save list...
Save the Uninstall log to your Desktop and include a copy in your next response.
Now press Back and Scan and then Save log to create and save a new HijackThis log.

Once complete, please post the SmitfraudFix report, the uninstall list and a new HijackThis log.

Please use Post Reply and not New Topic to post your replies. That way your replies will be posted in the same topic and it makes it much easier for both you and silver who is helping you.

Hi jakerthebaker6,

First some uninstalls:
Please open Start->Control Panel->Add/Remove Programs, look down the list for these items and remove them:
Internet Explorer Security Plugin 2006
Internet Security Add-On
J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 10
J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 11
J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 6
J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 9
Java 2 Runtime Environment, SE v1.4.2_03
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment 6 Update 1
Public Messenger ver 2.03
Security Toolbar
System Alert Popup

The Java installations are outdated and a security risk, you already have the latest Java installed Java(TM) 6 Update 2), the rest are malware programs.

You have Logitech Desktop Messenger installed on your system. This is a background process which can access the internet without your knowledge or consent. Although it can assist in providing software updates for your Logitech hardware, it uses resources on your machine and the fact that it accesses the internet without your approval is potentially dangerous. I recommend you remove this program, to do so, find Logitech Desktop Messenger and select Remove

You have BitLord, a P2P file sharing program installed on your computer. This program does not come bundled with malware as some similar programs do, but peer-to-peer file sharing networks are one of the biggest sources of malware we see. Anything downloaded from them cannot be trusted to be clean, because even if the file appears to be what it claims to be, it can have malware embedded in it.
I recommend you remove it, but of course the choice is yours.
You can remove BitLord via Add/Remove Programs.

Next, please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following :
  • Restart your computer
  • After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually;
  • Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu with options should appear;
  • Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode, then press "Enter".
  • Choose your usual account.
Once in Safe Mode, double-click on SmitfraudFix.exe
Select option #2 - Clean by typing 2 and press "Enter" to delete infected files.

You will be prompted : "Registry cleaning - Do you want to clean the registry ?"; answer "Yes" by typing Y and press "Enter" in order to remove the Desktop background and clean registry keys associated with the infection.

The tool will now check if wininet.dll is infected. You may be prompted to replace the infected file (if found); answer "Yes" by typing Y and press "Enter".

The tool may need to restart your computer to finish the cleaning process; if it doesn't, please restart it into Normal Windows.
A text file will appear onscreen, with results from the cleaning process; please copy/paste the content of that report into your next reply.
The report can also be found at the root of the system drive, usually at C:\rapport.txt

Warning : running option #2 on a non infected computer will remove your Desktop background.

Then, download Deljob.exe and save it to your desktop.
Doubleclick Deljob.exe to start the program.
A file called logit.txt should appear on your Desktop and should open in Notepad, post the contents of this file in your next response.

Once complete, please post the new SmitfraudFix report, the logit.txt output and a new HijackThis log.

Hi jakerthebaker6,

When responding to my instructions, please open this message first, look at the top of the topic or the bottom for the button labelled post reply and click that button to post a response.

------------------------------------------------------------------------

Please open HijackThis, choose Do a system scan only and place a checkmark next to the following lines:
O2 - BHO: BitComet Toolbar Helper - {6A373B7E-496E-424f-A9BE-486A5E9AB018} - C:\Program Files\BitComet Toolbar\v2.0.0.1\BitComet_Toolbar.dll (file missing)
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {7E853D72-626A-48EC-A868-BA8D5E23E045} - (no file)
O3 - Toolbar: BitComet Toolbar - {2E608F70-C430-4bc5-96F6-608E02EBA5B2} - C:\Program Files\BitComet Toolbar\v2.0.0.1\BitComet_Toolbar.dll (file missing)
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Browse new fork rule] C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Wait Find Browse New\move way.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [PlayShow] C:\DOCUME~1\PISTOL~1\APPLIC~1\INTERN~1\Load grid.exe

Then close all open windows apart from HijackThis, press Fix checked, OK the prompt and close HijackThis.

------------------------------------------------------------------------

Download OTMoveIt to your desktop. and double-click the program to start it.
Select the contents of the below file list, then press Ctrl+C to copy it to the clipboard
In OTMoveIt, click in the left-hand pane and press Ctrl+V to paste the file-list into the program
Then, press MoveIt!
If the program asks you to reboot now, click No
Copy the Results output and paste it into a new notepad file so you can post it in your next response. Do this by clicking in the right-hand pane, press Ctrl-A then Ctrl-C to select all and copy. Then open Notepad, press Ctrl-V to paste in the text, and save this text file to your desktop.

OTMoveIt file list:
Code: Select all
C:\Documents and Settings\Pistol Pete\Application Data\internet send byte
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\01 idol rule wait
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Wait Find Browse New
C:\deljob
C:\Program Files\Video ActiveX Object
C:\WINDOWS\system32\gwquvw.dll
C:\Program Files\Security Toolbar

Then reboot your computer to complete the removals.

------------------------------------------------------------------------

Then, please do an online scan with Kaspersky:

Open Kaspersky Online Scanner in Internet Explorer

You will be prompted to install an ActiveX component from Kaspersky,
Click Yes.
  • The program will launch and then begin downloading the latest definition files:
  • Once the files have been downloaded click on NEXT and then Scan Settings
  • In the scan settings make that the following are selected:
    • Scan using the following Anti-Virus database:
      Extended (if available otherwise Standard)
    • Scan Options:
      Scan Archives
      Scan Mail Bases
  • Click OK
  • Now under select a target to scan:
      Select My Computer
  • The program will start to scan your system.
  • Once the scan is complete, click on the Save as Text button and save the file to your desktop
Note for Internet Explorer 7 users: If at any time you have trouble with the accept button of the license, click on the Zoom tool located at the right bottom of the IE window and set the zoom to 75 %. Once the license is accepted, reset to 100%.

------------------------------------------------------------------------

Once complete, please post as a reply the OTMoveIt report, the Kaspersky log and a new HijackThis log.
