Hi, bhunt261.....welcome to Malware Removal! :)

You have a Wareout infection....I will try and help to clean your system.

Please print these instructions for reference, as you will have to restart your computer during the fix.

Please download FixWareout from Here or Here.

Note: You will need to run this tool while having an Internet Connection. The tool will download other files while running.
  1. Save it to your desktop and run it. Click Next, then Install, make sure "Run fixit" is checked and click Finish.
  2. The fix will begin; follow the prompts.
  3. If your firewall gives an alert, (because this tool will download an additional files from the internet), please don't let your firewall block it, but allow it instead.
  4. You will be asked to reboot your computer; please do so. Your system may take longer than usual to load; this is normal.
  5. Once the desktop loads a text file will open (report.txt).

Please post the C:\fixwareout\report.txt , along with a new HijackThis log as a reply into this topic.

You are welcome!

How is the computer running now? Are you having any problems?

I'm not seeing much in the HJT log, and it looks like Wareout is gone. Let's do some temp file cleaning and then an online scan to check:

1. Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune.
This program is for XP and Windows 2000 only
Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
    Under Main choose: Select All
    Click the Empty Selected button.
If you use Firefox browser
Click Firefox at the top and choose: Select All
    Click the Empty Selected button.
NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.
If you use Opera browser
Click Opera at the top and choose: Select All
    Click the Empty Selected button.
NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.
Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.

2. Please re-open HiJackThis and choose scan only. Check the boxes next to all the entries listed below.

O16 - DPF: {DBA230D1-8467-4e69-987E-5FAE815A3B45} -

Now close all windows other than HiJackThis, then click Fix Checked. Reboot your computer.

3. Please do an online scan with Kaspersky WebScanner

Click on Kaspersky Online Scanner

You will be promted to install an ActiveX component from Kaspersky, Click Yes.
  • The program will launch and then begin downloading the latest definition files:
  • Once the files have been downloaded click on NEXT
  • Now click on Scan Settings
  • In the scan settings make that the following are selected:
    • Scan using the following Anti-Virus database:
      Extended (if available otherwise Standard)
    • Scan Options:
      Scan Archives
      Scan Mail Bases

  • Click OK
  • Now under select a target to scan:
      Select My Computer
  • This will program will start and scan your system.
  • The scan will take a while so be patient and let it run.
  • Once the scan is complete it will display if your system has been infected.
    • Now click on the Save as Text button:
  • Save the file to your desktop.
  • Copy and paste that information in your next post.

It is getting better, but is still slow and hangs up. Occasionally locks up too. Thanks...

??

Today I am at my 'real' job, and I won't be available until tomorrow night...

But a few things...

The Kaspersky scan was largely clean (one infected file in system restore)..and the HJT log appeared clean too. I am not certain that this is malware related...might be, but maybe not.

How old was the computer and the HD? I was wondering why the computer was 'hanging' and 'locking' up as the HJT log did not appear bad...perhaps the HD failed?

I am going to ask around to some of my other experts or points of contact about any ideas.

I will get back to you as soon as I can.....

Real job, huh. I CAN appreciate that... On a whim I called Dell and you are right. The mother board is failing. So, per thier recommendation because the computer is old, I have ordered her a new one. Her being my wife. She will be heart broken to find out it has died, maybe the new one coming will bring her back.LOL I appreciate all your help. Don't let that real job get you down... Bobby

You're welcome Bobby, and sorry about the computer... :(

The other experts on the board also believed it was hardware related (not malware) that was the cause of the most recent problem.

Good luck with the new system!
