Potential Malware?

Unread postby Dave2U » July 22nd, 2007, 9:43 am

I have been experiencing some weird behaviour on my PC lately. In particular - yesterday, I started receiving a popup asking for a login to MSN Messenger - something I don't use.

Also, perhaps unrelated, one of my email accounts in Outlook 2003 just stopped working around the same time.

I am using Norton 360 and my most recent scan found nothing amiss except for a tracking cookie. I ran TrendMicro's online scan and it didn't find anything beyond the single tracking cookie. So, I downloaded HiJackThis, ran it once, renamed it from HijackThis.exe to Dumb.exe and ran it again. I now defer to your expertise:

Here is my HJT log:

Hello and welcome to the forums

My name is Katana and I will be helping you to remove any infection(s) that you may have.

Please note that I am training, this means that any reply I give to you has to be checked first by an expert.
I apologize for any delay this might cause.

Please observe these rules while we work:
1. If you don't know, stop and ask! Don't keep going on.
2. Please reply to this thread. Do not start a new topic.
3. Please continue to respond until I give you the "All Clear"
(Just because you can't see a problem doesn't mean it isn't there)

If you can do those three things, everything should go smoothly :D

I apologize for the delay in responding, but as you can probably see the forums are quite busy
and sometimes a post manages to slip by us.
Unfortunately there are far more people needing help than there are helpers.

If you still require help please post a fresh Hijack This log to this thread.
I will be notified and I will get back to you ASAP.
