Hi there,

Unable to do this. Computer freezes during installation.

Noticed in requirements it says I need to be in "administrator" mode. Could that be a problem? If so, please help with how to do that.

Thanks. Sorry to be so slow.

Hi ncdude,

Please go to Start > Control Panel and double click on User Accounts.

Under your username, you will see either Computer administrator or Limited account. Please post back the results (either computer administrator or limited account).

Hi ncdude, please delete the contents of this folder. Do not delete the whole folder.

C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\.housecall6.6\Quarantine

After this, please update your Windows by going to http://update.microsoft.com/ . Search for all available updates, apply the updates and restart the computer. Repeat this step till there are no more updates to be applied.

Once done, restart your computer and post a new HijackThis log.

Re-enable Trojan Hunter Guard

  1. Go to Start > All Programs > TrojanHunter > Trojan Hunter Guard.
  2. It will start in the system tray (near the clock). Right click on the magnifying glass and select Settings.
  3. Check (tick) all boxes.
  4. Click OK.

Update Java

Your Java Runtime Environment is out of date. The current version is 6u2.

  1. Click here to go to Java website.
  2. Scroll down to Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 Update 2. Click on Download.
  3. Select Accept License Agreement. The page will refresh.
  4. Click on Windows Offline Installation, Multi-language and save it to a convenient location.
  5. Go to Start > Control Panel and double click on Add/Remove Programs.
  6. Locate J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 and click on Change/Remove to uninstall it.
  7. Double click on jre-6u2-windows-i586-p.exe to install the latest version of Java.

In your next reply, please post:

  1. A new HijackThis log
  2. How is your computer behaving now

Was able to do all of the above.

Computer has not frozen or rebooted on me since. Very slow at startup, and each time thereafter I start IE.

Bazooka still says I have the same two I originally asked about. Is that OK to ignore?

Here is the new hijack:

Oh, and I should add that the last two times I've x-d out of this forum (including just a few mins ago), something has launched a steady stream of IE windows that the only way I know to stop has been to shut down the computer.

Hi ncdude,

Please post a new HijackThis log. The HijackThis log you posted is a few days' old and there might be changes to your system within these few days.

Could you also describe about those IE windows that are opened when you log out of this forum?

When I x-out, new windows pop open one after another in rapid succession. I'll have like 50 internet explorer windows open and going strong...In the screens you can see wherever i was in the forum when i x-out.

last time i closed it from the start bar and with no incidents.

Hi ncdude,

You are using P2P program (Limewire). While Limewire spyware free, please refrain from using them while cleaning your computer to prevent getting more infections. Our recommendation is to stay off them as they are one of the sources of infections. For more information, please visit Malware Removal List of Clean and Infected P2P Programs and Spyware Info List of Clean and Infected P2P Programs.

  1. Locate the bfu.zip that you've downloaded earlier.
  2. Right click on bfu.zip and select Extract All....
  3. Click Next on seeing the Welcome to the Compressed (zipped) Folders Extraction Wizard.
  4. In the Files will be extracted to this directory: box, copy and paste in C:\BFU. Then click OK.
  5. Check (tick) the Show extracted files box.
  6. Right click here and select Save Link As... (In Internet Explorer it is Save Target As...). Save it to C:\BFU folder.
  7. Navigate to C:\BFU and double click on BFU.exe.
  8. In the Scriptfile to execute field, copy and paste this in: C:\BFU\alcanshorty.bfu
  9. Click on Execute.
  10. Once done, click OK and click on Exit.

In your next reply, please post a new HijackThis log. I would also like to know if the popups are still occurring.

Sorry for that. I missed out the links. Please download bfu.zip from Castlecops. The rest of the steps are the same after you've downloaded bfu.zip.
