My AVG program and WinPatrol both tell me that the following files have changed:

wsock32.dll
user32.dll
shell32.dll
kernel32.dll
ntoskrnl.exe

Could this be caused by malware?

Hi Zehavi & Welcome to MWR

I would be glad to help you with your computer problems.
HijackThis logs take awhile to research. Please be patient with me. I know that you want your problems solved quicky, and I will work hard to help you.

Please observe these rules while we work:

    1. If you don't know, stop and ask! Don't keep going on.
    2. Please reply to this thread. Do not start a new topic.

If you can do those two things, everything should go smoothly

The next thing you need to do is to download Hijack This from here

Important: Create a folder on the C: drive called C:\HJT.
You can do this by going to My Computer (Windows key+e) then double click on C: then right click and select New then Folder and name it HJT.
Unzip HijackThis into this folder. Please delete the old copy (including the zip copy) so it can't be used.
If required a tutorial is here

Then run HJT, press Do A System Scan And Save A Logfile.

When you have done this post the log back here into this thread. Thanks

Hi Zehvi

You may want to print out these instructions or save them as a text file with Notepad to your desktop because we will be restarting into Safe Mode later on in the fix and you might not be able to access the Internet. Read this instructions carefully and feel free to ask if you're unsure about something

Have you updated Windows recently, if so this could be why you keep getting a warning message regarding shell32.dll & Kernel32.dll

Also have you installed or uninstalled Real Player, if you have uninstalled it you will need to remove the following in Hijackthis O9 - Extra button: (no name) - {CD67F990-D8E9-11d2-98FE-00C0F0318AFE} - (no file) otherwise leave it.

Next please run HijackThis, click Scan, and check the following:

R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page =
R3 - Default URLSearchHook is missing
F2 - REG:system.ini: Shell=

Press Fix Checked, HJT will prompt you to confirm if you would like to remove those items, select YES.

Restart Windows back into Normal mode, the do anyother log and post it back here, Thanks :)

Hi Zehavi

You could try this to see if it enables the your right click menu:

contextmenu.reg

Right click on the link and choose Save As... Save it the Desktop. Double click the reg file and merge it into the registry when asked.

Reboot and see if the right click menu is working properly.

Then post back here to this thread, to see if that has sorted out the issue.

Hi

Sorry to hear you are still having problems :(

You can try an "sfc /scannow", see if that works. Will need the XP disc for it.

Also have you got any DivX products/codecs installed. :?:

I have no idea if I have codecs installed or what I would do if I had them... I also don't know anything about the sfc/scannow process.... I have an XP disc, so what exactly do I do?

Thanks,

Zehavi

Goto Start, Run type cmd , then the command prompt appears

Insert you XP Disc in to the cdrom, the disc will autorun and the windows installation window will appear just press EXIT.

type sfc /scannow (note the space between sfc &/) press ENTER

it will start scanning the system files, if any files need replacing it will take from the disc.
