Hi! Welcome to the MWR forums.
My name is Scotty. I would be glad to take a look at your log and help you with solving any malware problems. HijackThis logs can take a while to research.
Please be patient and I'd be grateful if you would note the following:
  • I will working be on your Malware issues, this may or may not, solve other issues you have with your machine.
  • The fixes are specific to your problem and should only be used for this issue on this machine.
  • Please continue to review my answers until I tell you your machine appears to be clear. Absence of symptoms does not mean that everything is clear.
  • It's often worth reading through these instructions and printing them for ease of reference.
  • If you don't know or understand something, please don't hesitate to say or ask!! It's better to be sure and safe than sorry.

Hi Alex27

P2P Warning!
Please note that as long as you are using any form of Peer-to-Peer networking and downloading files from non-documented sources, you can expect infestations of malware to occur
Once upon a time, P2P file sharing was fairly safe. That is no longer true. You may continue to use P2P sharing at your own risk; however, please keep in mind that this practice may be the source of your current malware infestation and if you continue to do so while Im trying to clean your machine, you will be wasting my time as well yours.

You currently are running HijackThis from here:
a Temporary folder.

Please make a folder here:
c:\HJT
and place HijackThis in that folder.

DO NOT follow the steps below until you have moved HijackThis.

Please make a uninstall list using HijackThis
To access the Uninstall Manager you would do the following:

1. Start HijackThis
2. Click on the Config button
3. Click on the Misc Tools button
4. Click on the Open Uninstall Manager button.

You will now be presented with a screen similar to the one below:

Image

5. Click on the Save list... button and specify where you would like to save this file. When you press Save button a notepad will open with the contents of that file. Simply copy and paste the contents of that notepad here in a reply.

Please disable Windows Defender Real Time Protection as it may interfere with the fix. To disable Windows Defender:

  • Open Windows Defender
  • Click Tools
  • Click General Settings
  • Scroll down to Real Time Protection Options
  • Uncheck Turn on Real Time Protection (recommended)
  • Close Windows Defender

Once your log is clean you can re-enable Windows Defender Real Time Protection.

Download and Run ComboFix

  • Download this file from below:

    Here
  • Then double click combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
  • When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Post that log in your next reply with a new HijackThis log and the Uninstall list.

Note: Do not mouseclick combofix's window whilst it's running. That may cause it to stall

Hello Alex27

First of all, did you move HijackThis as I described? Then, go through the instructions for the Uninstall List. When you click on Save List it will ask where to save. Dont try to save in Notepad as it is a text document. Save in My Documents or on the Desktop. Then open the file, press Edit, Select All, then Edit again, and Copy.
Then paste the list here.

To uninstall Bittorrent, open the All Programs menu, hover over Bittorrent and choose the Uninstall option.
If there isnt one pick Control Panel from the Start Menu and go into Add/Remove Programs and select Bittorrent, then Remove.

Dont forget the Combofix instructions. ;)

Mac70,

I did not findthe executable file in the temporary folders, therefore I had to install it again. I ran another scan to see if that would solve the problem of my save list, but I am still having the same problem. Attached is the new log I ran a few minutes ago. Thanks for all the help so far.

Hi Alex27

Sorry to be a pain, but could you;

Rename HijackThis
There is probably an infection which is hiding part of the HijackThis log because it's called hijackthis.exe.
Please rename hijackthis.exe to hello.exe

Now scan again and post a new log, please.

Could you post a new HijackThis log? We need to see one created after Combofix was run.

Hello Alex27

I see that Viewpoint Media Player is installed. Viewpoint, Viewpoint Manager, Viewpoint Media Player are Viewpoint components which are installed as a side effect of installing other software, most notably AOL and AOL Instant Messenger (AIM). Viewpoint Manager is responsible for managing and updating Viewpoint Media Player’s components. You can disable this using the Viewpoint Manager Control Panel found in the Windows Control Panel menu. By selecting Disable auto‑updating for the Viewpoint Manager ‑‑ the player will no longer attempt to check for updates. Anything that is installed without your consent is suspect. Read what Viewpoint says and make your own decision.
To provide a satisfying consumer experience and to operate effectively, the Viewpoint Media Player periodically sends information to servers at Viewpoint. Each installation of the Viewpoint Media Player is identifiable to Viewpoint via a Customer Unique Identifier (CUID), an alphanumeric identifier embedded in the Viewpoint Media Player. The Viewpoint Media Player randomly generates the CUID during installation and uses it to indicate a unique installation of the product. A CUID is never connected to a user's name, email address, or other personal contact information. CUIDs are used for the sole purpose of filtering redundant information. Each of these information exchanges occurs anonymously.

Viewpoint Manager is considered as foistware instead of malware since it is installed without user's approval but doesn't spy or do anything "bad". This may change, read Viewpoint to Plunge Into Adware.
I recommend that you remove the Viewpoint products; however, decide for yourself. To uninstall the the Viewpoint components (Viewpoint, Viewpoint Manager, Viewpoint Media Player):
  1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
  2. In Control Panel, double-click Add or Remove Programs.
  3. In Add or Remove Programs, highlight >>Viewpoint component<< , click Remove.
  4. Do the same for each Viewpoint component.

Open Notepad and Copy/Paste the text in the codebox below into it:

Refering to the picture above, drag CFScript into ComboFix.exe
Then post the resultant log with a new HijackThis log.

Mac70,

I followed the instructions but it seems that I lost all my information, is there a way to retrieve all it and I tried copying the log but I was not allowed to send it because I reached the max allowed text. Is there a way I can attach the file so you can take a look at it.

Thanks

hi Alex27

Hi Alex27

If necessary, use a post for each log. If a log is too large to fit in one post, break it up into multiple posts, being careful to continue subsequent posts at the point where the previous post stopped.

I recommend that you print out or copy to Notepad, or a similar program, the following instructions to save you having to return here all the time.

Please follow these instructions in the order they are written.

Step 1:
Download ATF (Atribune Temp File) Cleaner© by Atribune to your desktop.

Double-click ATF Cleaner.exe to open it.

Under Main choose:
Windows Temp
Current User Temp
All Users Temp
Cookies
Temporary Internet Files
Prefetch
Java Cache

*The other boxes are optional*
Then click the Empty Selected button.

Firefox:
Click Firefox at the top and choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.
NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click NO at the prompt.

Opera:
Click Opera at the top and choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.
NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click NO at the prompt.

Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.

Step 2:
Download AVG Anti-Spyware.
  • Install AVG Anti-Spyware.
  • Launch AVG by double-clicking on the icon.
  • The program will now open to the main screen.
  • You will need to update AVG to the latest definition files.
    • At the top of the main screen click Update.
      • Then in the Manual Update section, click on Start Update.
  • The update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed.
  • When updates are completed, close AVG.
If you are having problems with the updater, you can use this link to manually update AVG.
AVG manual updates

Step 3:
Run a scan with AVG.
  • Click on Scanner
    • Click on the Settings tab, and set the following settings.
      • How to act
        • Click on Recommended actions, and set to Quarantine.
      • How to scan
        • Check all options.
      • Possibly unwanted software.
        • Check all options.
      • Reports
        • Check Do not automatically generate reports after every scan.
      • What to scan
        • Check Scan every file.
    • Click on the Scan tab.
      • Click on Complete System Scan and the scan will begin.
      • When the scan has finished
        • Make sure that Set all elements to: shows Quarantine, if not click on the link and choose Quarantine from the popup menu.
        • At the bottom of the window click on the Apply all Actions button.
Note: Don't save the report before you hit the Apply action button.

Close AVG Anti-Spyware.

AVG will save a report in the following location C:\Program Files\Grisoft\AVG anti-spyware 7.5\Reports

Step 4:
Double-click on the ComboFix.exe icon again and post the resultant log, as you did before.

Step 5:
Please do an online scan with Kaspersky Online Scanner. You will be prompted to install an ActiveX component from Kaspersky, Click Yes.
  • The program will launch and then start to download the latest definition files.
  • Once the scanner is installed and the definitions downloaded, click Next.
  • Now click on Scan Settings
  • In the scan settings make sure that the following are selected:
    • Scan using the following Anti-Virus database:

      + Extended(If available otherwise Standard)
    • Scan Options:

      + Scan Archives
      + Scan Mail Bases
  • Click OK
  • Now under select a target to scan select My Computer
  • The scan will take a while so be patient and let it run. Once the scan is complete it will display if your system has been infected.
  • Now click on the Save as Text button
  • Save the file to your desktop.
  • Copy and paste that information in your next post.

Step 6:
Run HijackThis again then post back with

  1. AVG Report
  2. Combofix log
  3. Kaspersky Scan log
  4. HijackThis log
