Hi sophieandlaurie

Welcome to the MalWare Removal forums! I'll be glad to help you with your computer problems.
HijackThis logs can take some time to research, so please be patient with me. I know that you need
your computer working as quickly as possible, and I will work hard to help see that happens.

In order to help me help you, please observe the following while we work:
  1. If you don't know, stop and ask! Don't continue, we don't want to start all over again!
  2. Understand that cleaning your computer can sometimes take multiple passes/posts,
and it's important to follow the steps as listed including re-running scans as listed
  3. Please reply to this thread, do not start another.

If you can do those three things, everything should go smoothly

------------------------------------------------------------------

Please do the following.

Download SmitfraudFix (by S!Ri) make sure to click the Save button not Run button and save to your Desktop.

http://siri.urz.free.fr/Fix/SmitfraudFix.exe

Double-click SmitfraudFix.exe
Select option #1 - Search by typing 1 and press Enter
This program will scan large amounts of files on your computer for known patterns so please be patient while it works. When it is done, the results of the scan will be displayed and it will create a log named rapport.txt in the root of your drive, eg: Local Disk C: or partition where your operating system is installed. Please post that log along with all others requested in your next reply.

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run any other options until you are asked to do so!

**If the tool fails to launch from the Desktop, please move SmitfraudFix.exe directly to the root of the system drive (usually C:), and launch from there.

Note : process.exe is detected by some antivirus programs (AntiVir, Dr.Web, Kaspersky) as a 'RiskTool'; it is not a virus, but a program used to stop system processes. Antivirus programs cannot distinguish between 'good' and 'malicious' use of such programs, therefore they may alert the user.

---------------------------------------------------------------------

Make a uninstall list using HijackThis
To access the Uninstall Manager you would do the following:

1.Start HijackThis

Image

2. Click on the Open the Misc tool section button
3. Click on the Misc Tools button

Image

4. Click on the Open Uninstall Manager button.

You will now be presented with a screen similar to the one below:

Image

5. Click on the Save list... button and specify where you would like to save this file. When you press Save list button a notepad will open with the contents of that file. Simply copy and paste the contents of that notepad here on your next reply. Note: please uncheck word wrap under format in notepad

Post HJT Uninstall list in next reply

-------------------------------------------------------------------

Please post these in next reply to this thread by using the postreply button:

SmitfraudFix rapport.txt
HJT uninstall list
New HJT log

Hi sophieandlaurie

Thanks for posting logs.

This Add or Remove Programs entry corresponds to a program that is either malware, installs malware, or is bundled with malware.

My Web Search (My Fun Cards)

Video AX Object 2.07

Windows Safety Alert

----------------------------------------------

Add/Remove Programs
  • Click Start
  • Go to Control Panel
  • Go to Add/Remove Programs
  • Find and click Remove for the following:

My Web Search (My Fun Cards)
    Video AX Object 2.07
    Windows Safety Alert
You will need to reboot computer to complete uninstall.

-----------------------------------------

This is next please do the following. We need to download some tools and setup correctly:

Download ATF (Atribune Temp File) Cleaner© by Atribune to your desktop. Don't run ATF yet. Will do it a bit later.

---------------------------------------------

Please print out or copy these instructions/tutorial to Notepad as the internet will not be (while in Safe Mode) available to you at certain points of the removal process. Make sure to work through all the Steps in the exact order in which they are listed below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before moving on with the fixes.

AVG Anti-Spyware:

Download the trial version of AVG Anti-Spyware from here and install it. When the program has been installed, and you click the Finish button, AVG Anti-Spyware will open. Do not run a scan yet.

If the program does not automatically update itself during installation, or you are unsure whether it has done so, please do the following:
  • Click the Update icon at the top and under Manual Update click the Start update button.
  • The program will either update or inform you that no update was available.
  • It is essential that you get the update - keep trying until successful. (Note: If you have problems getting the update, you can download an installer for the full database from here (save it on your desktop). Once you have downloaded the installer, make sure that AVG Anti-Spyware is closed and then double-click on avgas-signatures-full-current.exe to install the database).
Please set up the program as follows:
  • Click the Shield icon at the top and under Resident shield is... click active. This should now change to inactive.
  • Click the Update icon and untick the automatic update option.
  • Click on Scanner on the toolbar.
  • Click on the Settings tab.
    • Under How to act? - make sure that Quarantine is selected.
    • Under How to scan? - All checkboxes should be ticked.
    • Under Possibly unwanted software - All checkboxes should be ticked.
    • Under Reports - Select Do not automatically generate reports. NOTE* If this is not selected you will not be able to click Save Scan Report button when instructed to do so.
    • Under What to scan? - Select Scan every file.
Close AVG Anti-Spyware without running yet.
Now disable (turn off AVG Anti-Spyware)
  • Right-click the AVG Anti-Spyware Tray Icon (Bottom right corner of computer screen near clock) and uncheck Start with Windows.
  • Right-click the AVG Anti-Spyware Tray Icon again and select Exit. Confirm by clicking Yes.

______________________________

Reboot your computer in Safe Mode.
  • If the computer is running, shut down Windows, and then turn off the power.
  • Wait 30 seconds, and then turn the computer on.
  • Start tapping the F8 key. The Windows Advanced Options Menu appears. If you begin tapping the F8 key too soon, some computers display a "keyboard error" message. To resolve this, restart the computer and try again.
  • Ensure that the Safe Mode option is selected.
  • Press Enter. The computer then begins to start in Safe mode.
  • Login on your usual account.
______________________________

Double-click on SmitfraudFix.exe
Select option #2 - Clean by typing 2 and press Enter.
Wait for the tool to complete and disk cleanup to finish.
You will be prompted : "Registry cleaning - Do you want to clean the registry ?" answer Yes by typing Y and hit Enter.
The tool will also check if wininet.dll is infected. If a clean version is found, you will be prompted to replace wininet.dll. Answer Yes to the question "Replace infected file ?" by typing Y and hit Enter.

A reboot may be needed to finish the cleaning process, if you computer does not restart automatically please do it yourself manually. Reboot in Safe Mode.

The tool will create a log named rapport.txt in the root of your drive, eg: Local Disk C: or partition where your operating system is installed. Please post that log along with all others requested in your next reply.

Unread postby sophieandlaurie » July 15th, 2007, 3:50 pm

Hi there

My computer will not let me in through the control panel, however I managed to access through going through the "set program access and defaults" to remove the first 2 but it will not allow me to get rid of the windows safety alert. When i click to remove it does absolutely nothing. What should I do?

Thanks

Hi sophieandlaurie,

Everytime I try and open anything from my computer at the start button , such as control panel, my computer, my documents I get told that to protect my computer Data execution prevention has closed the program by authority of Windows explorer.

Will need to run an online scan this will disinfect virus if found.

----------------------------------------------------------------

Run Panda's ActiveScan from here and perform a full system scan.
NOTE* You must use Internet Explorer for this scan to work.

1. Once you are on the Panda site scroll to the bottom of page and click the "Scan your PC" button NOTE: If you have a popblocker enable you will have to allow popup here.
2. A new window will open...click the big "Check Now" button
3. Enter your Country
4. Enter your State/Province
5. Enter your e-mail address and click send
6. Select either Home User or Company
7. Click the big Scan Now button
8. If it wants to install an ActiveX component allow it
9. It will start downloading the files it requires for the scan (Note: It will take a couple minutes. You may have to reboot here and start back with step 1. I did.)
10. Click on "Local Disks" to start the scan
11. Post Panda scan results in your next reply with others requested.

-------------------------------------------------------------

Please post in next reply:
Panda scan report and a New HJT log.

Let know if after running scan if you can open control panel from start button.

have tried to do this but everytime I get to the page after I have put country etc it asks to have activex. I have been into the internet tools tab into security and then into custom to enable the activex area and then try again but still I am unable to go to the next stage. Any ideas?

Hi sophieandlaurie,

It may be helpful to know that when you put an item in your Trusted Zone, it has pretty much full access to your computer... very dangerous. Are you sure you trust this site to that degree?? If you're not sure, and/or you do not need these in your trusted zone to facilitate access, or you did not knowingly permit this access yourself, then please fix the following O15 entries....

Run HijackThis, select Do a system scan only and place checks against the following entries (if they are still present):
WITH ALL OTHER WINDOWS CLOSED Click on Fix Checked and exit HijackThis.

------------------------------------------------------

Ok this is next:

Next do the following:
1. Download this file - combofix.exe and save it to your Desktop.
2. Close all open windows.
3. Double click combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
4. When finished, it shall produce a log for you. It is located >> C:\ComboFix.txt. Post that log in your next reply.

Note:
Do not mouseclick combofix's window whilst it's running. That may cause it to stall

Note: ComboFix may reset a number of Internet Explorer's settings.

---------------------------------------------------------

Please post in next reply

Hi there. I am off on holiday at the end of today, is my computer really bad or do you think there is a chance of getting it fix before I go.

Look forward to hearing from you

Hi sophieandlaurie,

Hi there. I am off on holiday at the end of today, is my computer really bad or do you think there is a chance of getting it fix before I go.

I will do the best I can.

------------------------------------------------------

Will need you to check DEP default settings to see if these below are chosen.

Start > Run
Type:
sysdm.cpl
Click OK
Advanced Tab
Under Performance, click the Settings button
Check for this setttng should be chosen:
  • Visual Effects tab = Let Windows choose what's best for my computer
  • Advanced Tab = Programs ticked for both options on this one
  • Data Execution Prevention tab = Turn on DEP for essential Windows programs and services only

If setting were not correct and you had to change them you will need to restart computer.
Let me know what you find?

---------------------------------------------------------

I'd like a file scanned
  • Go to VirusTotal or virusscan.jotti.org
  • Copy and paste the following file path into the Search Box at the top of the page:
  • C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\aokgnaeaanma.sys
  • Click on the Send button
  • Please post the results in your next reply.
Please post the results of this scan to this thread

Repeat for the following

C:\WINDOWS\system32\WINLCTL5.DLL
C:\WINDOWS\system32\WINUTIL5.DLL

---------------------------------------------------------

Please post the results of this scans
