Hi, carlrobison1,

Delete programs
  • Click Start
  • Go to Control Panel
  • Go to Add/.Remove Programs
  • Find and click Remove for the following (if present). It could be that they have a space or something between it , but it has to look like it:
  • SpamBlockerUtility

**Take care when answering any questions posed by an uninstaller. Some questions may be worded to deceive you into keeping the program.

First, there are a few very important security program that you are In need of. These programs are essential to prevent you from getting reinfected:

* Use an Anti Virus Software - It is very important that your computer has an anti-virus software running on your machine. Please download and install one antivirus program from the following list, download the latest signatures, and do a full system scan.

o AVG Anti-Virus
o Avast Home Edition
* Use a Firewall - I can not stress how important it is that you use a Firewall on your computer. Without a firewall your computer is susceptible to being hacked and taken over. Simply using a Firewall in its default configuration can lower your risk greatly. For more info, check This webpage out. 2 free ones available for personal use:

o Kerio Personal Firewall
o ZoneAlarm

Without these programs, you will be quickly reinfected, and we would just be wasting our time trying to clean your computer.

Hi,I can see you have installed the firewall but I'm not seeing an antivirus program running on your machine, did you have any problems with that?
Also you are still showing older versions of java "C:\Program\Files\Java\jre1.5.0_03" can you go to add and remove programs and remove as previous instruction.

Post me another HJT log when you completed above.
Thanks dan

This " AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5 " is not an antivirus program it's anti spyware which is two different programs and offers different types of protection. See here
Please down load "one" of the antivirus products as given in the link I gave you, I 'm just trying to get you better protected.

Post me a log when done.
so I can see it went ok.

Hi,carlrobison1,

You should go here and update Adobe Reader 5.0 to the latest version, Adobe Reader® 8.0
___________

Well done! how are things with your machine at this point in time?

This is my normal post for when you are clear - which you now are - or seem to be. Please advise of any problems you still have :
Now that you are clean, please follow these simple steps in order to keep your computer clean and secure:

It's also a good idea to Flush your System Restore points after ridding yourself of malware:

  • Click Start | Help and Support | Undo changes to your computer with System Restore.
  • Click Create A Restore Point then click Next. Give it a name it and then click Create, then Close.
  • Close the Help and Support Center box.
  • Click Start | Run and type Cleanmgr
  • Select (C: ) then click OK.
  • Click the More Options tab.
  • Click Clean Up in the System Restore Section.

This will remove all previous restore points except the newly created one.

  • Re hide your system files. To do so, please follow the steps below:
    1. Double-click My Computer.
    2. Click the Tools menu, and then click Folder Options.
    3. Click the View tab.
    4. Put a check by
Hide file extensions for known file types.
    5. Under the
      Hidden files
      folder, select
Do not show hidden files and folders.
    6. Check
      Hide protected operating system files.
    7. Click Apply, and then click OK.
  • Make your Internet Explorer more secure - This can be done by following these simple instructions:
    • From within Internet Explorer click on the Tools menu and then click on Options.
    • Click once on the Security tab
    • Click once on the Internet icon so it becomes highlighted.
    • Click once on the Custom Level button.
      • Change the Download signed ActiveX controls to Prompt
      • Change the Download unsigned ActiveX controls to Disable
      • Change the Initialise and script ActiveX controls not marked as safe to Disable
      • Change the Installation of desktop items to Prompt
      • Change the Launching programs and files in an IFRAME to Prompt
      • Change the Navigate sub-frames across different domains to Prompt
      • When all these settings have been made, click on the OK button.
      • If it prompts you as to whether or not you want to save the settings, press the Yes button.
    • Next press the Apply button and then the OK to exit the Internet Properties page.
  • Update your Anti Virus Software - It is imperitive that you update your Anti virus software at least once a week (Even more if you wish). If you do not update your anti virus software then it will not be able to catch any of the new variants that may come out.
  • Use a Firewall - I can not stress how important it is that you use a Firewall on your computer. Without a firewall your computer is susceptible to being hacked and taken over. Simply using a Firewall in its default configuration can lower your risk greatly. For an article on Firewalls and a listing of some available ones see the link below:
Computer Safety On line - Software Firewalls
  • Visit Microsoft's Windows Update Site Frequently - It is important that you visit http://www.windowsupdate.com regularly. This will ensure your computer has always the latest security updates available installed on your computer. If there are new updates to install, install them immediately, reboot your computer, and revisit the site until there are no more critical updates.
  • Install Spybot - Search and Destroy - Install and download Spybot - Search and Destroy with its TeaTimer option.
This will provide real-time spyware & hijacker protection on your computer alongside your virus protection. You should also scan your computer with program on a regular basis just as you would an anti virus software. A tutorial on installing & using this product can be found here:
    Instructions for - Spybot S & D and Ad-aware
  • Install Ad-Aware - Install and download Ad-Aware. You should also scan your computer with the program on a regular basis just as you would an anti virus software in conjunction with Spybot. A tutorial on installing & using this product can be found here:
    Instructions for - Spybot S & D and Ad-aware
  • Install SpywareBlaster - SpywareBlaster will added a large list of programs and sites into your Internet Explorer settings that will protect you from running and downloading known malicious programs. A article on anti-malware products with links for this program and others can be found here:
Computer Safety on line - Anti-Malware
  • Update all these programs regularly - Make sure you update all the programs I have listed regularly. Without regular updates you WILL NOT be protected when new malicious programs are released.

Follow this list and your potential for being infected again will reduce dramatically.

To find out more information about how you got infected in the first place and some great guidelines to follow to prevent future infections you can read this article by Tony Klein.

Stand up and be Counted.
NOW is the time you can start to hit back at the people who infected you.
Image
Please take the time to go and complain - that forum has a topic for your infection which is ................ please post as a reply, you do not need to register to do so (but you can if you wish). It will also have a list of other places you can go to to register your complaint, depending on the country you are resident in. Please read the topics and complain, it is only with such complaints to goverment or government agances that something will get done.

It's running much better, thanks. I do have a few questions, though. I still have a window pop up at startup asking me about customizing my weather. I'd like to get rid of that. Also, I still get some popups from, I think, Real Audio. I would really like to get rid of anything I don't need at start up ( I see some Yahoo, google and sony stuff, too). Is there any way you could give me some direction on that? Thank you for all your help!

Hi,carlrobison1

Delete programs
  • Click Start
  • Go to Control Panel
  • Go to Add/Remove Programs
  • Find and click Remove for the following (if present). It could be that they have a space or something between it , but it has to look like it:

  • Yahoo!
    The Weather Channel FW

**Take care when answering any questions posed by an uninstaller. Some questions may be worded to deceive you into keeping the program.

Run HijackThis, select Do a system scan only and place checks against the following entries (if they are still present)

R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://us.f315.mail.yahoo.com/ym/login? ... 3v1kepv10k
R3 - URLSearchHook: Yahoo! Toolbar - {EF99BD32-C1FB-11D2-892F-0090271D4F88} - C:\Program Files\Yahoo!\Companion\Installs\cpn0\yt.dll
O2 - BHO: Yahoo! Toolbar Helper - {02478D38-C3F9-4EFB-9B51-7695ECA05670} - C:\Program Files\Yahoo!\Companion\Installs\cpn0\yt.dll
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [DW4] "C:\Program Files\The Weather Channel FW\Desktop Weather\DesktopWeather.exe"
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [ymetray] "C:\Program Files\Yahoo!\Yahoo! Music Engine\YahooMusicEngine.exe" -preload
O4 - Global Startup: ymetray.lnk = C:\Program Files\Yahoo!\Yahoo! Music Engine\ymetray.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Google Desktop Search] "C:\Program Files\Google\Google Desktop Search\GoogleDesktop.exe" /startup
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [QuickTime Task] "C:\Program Files\QuickTime\qttask.exe" -atboottime
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [iTunesHelper] "C:\Program Files\iTunes\iTunesHelper.exe"
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [TkBellExe] "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Real\Update_OB\realsched.exe" -osboot

Please Note! if you overclock your graphics card leave this entry:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [NvCplDaemon] RUNDLL32.EXE C:\WINDOWS\system32\NvCpl.dll,NvStartup

WITH ALL OTHER WINDOWS CLOSED Click on Fix Checked and exit

Right click start, In the drop down menu click "Explore" Then navigate to each file\ folder in the left hand pane, which will reveal its content in the right hand pane, highlight file or folder right click and Delete, if present:

C:\Program Files\Yahoo! << This folder
C:\Program Files\Google << This folder
C:\Program Files\The Weather Channel FW << This folder

Post me a fresh HJT log and let me know if you still having popup issues.
Thanks dan

Thanks. I think everything is done except I couldn't delete the Google Folder. It kept saying access denied. Any ideas?

Hi, are you happy to have google removed from your machine, I'm happy to assist, but this is down to your choice as it's not a malware issue.
If you could let me know and I will put some instruction forward.
Thanks dan
