HiJack Log for a Friend

Unread postby PohTayToez » June 25th, 2007, 4:05 am

So, somehow a friend of mine got some bad malware on her computer. I've ran all kinds of scans and got rid of most of it, but there is still something popping up trying to get her to pay for some bogus antivirus protection, and there is a blinking exclimation point in the tool bar:

Hi PohTayToez. :)

Step 1

I don't see an antivirus program running in your log. It could be that you disabled it, or you don't have an antivirus at all.

If you have disabled it, please re-enable it back.

If you have no antivirus, please download and install ONE antivirus from one of the links below:

AVG Antivirus Free
AntiVir for Windows 2000 and Windows XP
avast! 4 Home Edition
Clamwin

Step 2

Show hidden files and folders
  1. Open My Computer.
  2. Go to Tools > Folder Options.
  3. Select the View tab.
  4. Scroll down to Hidden files and folders.
  5. Select Show hidden files and folders.
  6. Uncheck (untick) Hide extensions of known file types.
  7. Uncheck (untick) Hide protected operating system files (Recommended).
  8. Click Yes when prompted.
  9. Click OK.
  10. Close My Computer.

Please upload these 2 files to Virus Total or Jotti and upload for scanning.

  1. C:\WINDOWS\vpssup.dll
  2. C:\WINDOWS\expro.dll

For Virus Total

  1. Click on the Browse button.
  2. Navigate and locate C:\WINDOWS\vpssup.dll file.
  3. Click Open, then click on Send.

For Jotti

  1. Click on the Browse button.
  2. Navigate and locate C:\WINDOWS\vpssup.dll file.
  3. Click on Open, then click on Submit.
Repeat for C:\WINDOWS\expro.dll.

Step 3

I see that you are using HijackThis version 2 Beta. As it is a beta software, it might not be stable and may cause problems for your PC.

  1. Please download the latest stable version of HijackThis from here. Do Not run it directly via a browser. Save it to your desktop.
  2. Next, go to Start > Control Panel. Double click on Add/Remove Programs. Locate HijackThis 2.0.0 from the list of installed programs and click Change/Remove to uninstall it.
  3. Now, run the stable version of HijackThis that you've just downloaded.
  4. Click on the Unzip button. It will install HijackThis to C:\Program Files\HijackThis.
  5. Go to C:\Program Files\HijackThis and double click on hijackthis.exe to run it.
  6. Select Do a system scan and save a logfile. Please post this log in your next reply.
Do not fix anything you see as not all entries are harmful to your PC.

Step 4

Please download SmitFraudFix.exe by S!Ri and save it to the desktop.

  1. Double click on SmitfraudFix.exe.
  2. Press 1 then hit the Enter key.
  3. It will create a report named rapport.txt, usually at C drive.

In your next reply, please post:

  1. Virus Total or Jotti scan results
  2. Smitfraudfix report (C:\rapport.txt)
  3. A new HijackThis log
