Hello,
Please help and have patience with me I'm slowly becoming literate. I don't mean to be wordy but don't want to leave out useful info. Every
time I run Spybot-S&D I get this problem...
Microsoft.WindowsSecurityCenter_disabled
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\wscsvc\Start!=W=2
I fix it but it comes back.Ran Ad-Aware 2007 found 30 tracking cookies
fixed and saved log. Ran TrojanHunter(not updated 18th day ofevaluation)
came up with 1 trojan and fixed. Used the Norton antivirus loaded on my
system found 1 tracking cookie and fixed(did this before and it seems to
come back too). Re ran Ad-Aware 2007, 8 more tracking cookies, fixed and
saved log.Ran online scanners-Symatec security scan and virus detection
(Redundant to whats on my system?)no threats found.Ran housecall and fixed
Ran Panda and saved log. Back to Spybot...now I'm just chacing my tail I hate
that my tail isn't cute. Here's the HJT log. Also have the 2 Ad-Aware
logs and Panda log if helpful but I won't include that unless asked for

minibike132,
These are the things I would do to improve speed:

Ad-Aware's new version uses a lot of resources and may impose a speed penalty.
There have been a lot of complaints. The next instruction will get rid of the running service.
If this results in the PC working faster, you should consider uninstalling it.
-----------------------------------------------------------
Disable Ad-Aware 2007 Service
Go to Start, Run OR Start, Programs, Accessories, Command Prompt and type Services.msc and click OK.
Under the Extended Tab, find this service.
Ad-Aware 2007 Service
Click once on the service to highlight it.
Right-Click on the service. Click on Properties
Select the General tab.
Next to Service Status, click Stop.
Click the Arrow-down tab on the right-hand side of the Start-up Type box.
From the drop-down menu, click on Disabled
Click Apply , then OK
-------------------------------------------------------------------
You have enough protection that you don't need the TeaTimer feature running.
Disable Spybot's TeaTimer. This is a two step process.
First :
  • Right-click Spybot Icon in the System Tray (looks like a calendar with a padlock symbol)
  • Choose Exit Spybot S&D Resident
Next :
  • Open Spybot S&D
  • Click Mode, check Advanced Mode
  • Go To Left Panel, Click Tools, then also in left panel, click Resident
  • If your firewall raises a question, say OK
  • Uncheck the box labeled Resident Tea-Timer and OK any prompts.
  • Use File, Exit to terminate Spybot
  • Reboot your machine for the changes to take effect.
-----------------------------------------------------------
Remove log items with HighjackThis. Start HijackThis.
Click Do System Scan Only. When the Scan is complete, Check the following entries:

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {02478D38-C3F9-4efb-9B51-7695ECA05670} - (no file)
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SunJavaUpdateSched] "C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.6.0_01\bin\jusched.exe"

Unless you or an administrator purposely put restrictions on the Control Panel, check this one also.
O6 - HKCU\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Control Panel present
If you don't use Yahoo messenger, you can check this one also.
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Yahoo! Pager] "C:\Program Files\Yahoo!\Messenger\YahooMessenger.exe" -quiet
Make sure Every other window except HJT is closed (No other tabs showing in the bottom tray), and Click Fix Checked.
----------------------------------------------------------
Download and Install CCleaner
  • Download CCleaner from here
  • Double click on ccsetupXXX_slim.exe to start the installation of CCleaner. (XXX is the version number)
  • Click OK
  • Click Next
  • Click I agree
  • Click Next
  • Click Install
  • Once the installation has finished, click Finish

Run Cleaning Scan. This will remove all Temp files, cookies, and Internet History.
Open the CCleaner program by doubleclicking the CCleaner Icon on your desktop.
Click on the Cleaner block on the left. Choose the Windows tab.
Click the Run Cleaner button. This process could take a while. When CCleaner shows how much has been removed, cleaning is finished.
Exit CCleaner by clicking on the X button in the upper right of the CCleaner window.
-----------------------------------------------------------
Post a New HJT Log
Reboot your computer. Start HijackThis. Click Do System Scan and Save a Log File.
When the Scan is complete, select the whole log (Ctrl-A), copy and paste the log contents in a reply.
Let me know how it goes.

Good job.
I don't see anything in your log that I would expect to drop popups.
Yahoo toolbar is a possibility, though, or the TiVoBeacon service, or something hidden.
If you don't use the TiVo Service, I would Uninstall it from the Control Panel's Add/Remove Programs
It phones home and reports on things without asking, just like TiVo itself.
To experimentally find out if the popup problem is the TiVo Beacon, do the following.
You can easily reverse this if you find out it's not involved:
-----------------------------------------------------------
Disable A Service
Go to Start, Run OR Start, Programs, Accessories, Command Prompt and type Services.msc and click OK.
Under the Extended Tab, Scroll down and find the service.
TivoBeacon2
Click once on the service to highlight it.
Right-Click on the service. Click on Properties
Select the General tab.
Next to Service Status, click Stop.
Click the Arrow-down tab on the right-hand side of the Start-up Type box.
From the drop-down menu, click on Disabled
(If you want to reverse this process later, follow the same instruction, except click on Start next to Service Status, and Automatic instead of Disabled Startup Type.)
Click Apply , then OK
See if the popups continue or not

Let me know what you find, and/or whether you want to look deeper into the system.

Ok I stopped the service and still get the popup. Perhaps something weather.com
just started doing as a normal function? I don't know as I said I'm remedial.
I remembered other problems I've been having while waiting. If I have a site
up for a while unattended that uses heavy flash like MLB.com, Explorer will
shut down with this error...

Add-on Name: Flash9c.ocx
Company Name: Adobe Systems Incorporated
Description: Adobe Flash Player

loaded player version 9.0.45.0

So I ran a Secunia scan. Previous to installing 9.x I ran the Adobe uninstall
program to remove 5.x. But the Secunia scan comes up with an instance of
5.x...

Installed on Your System in:
D:\i386\Apps\App10224\swflash.ocx

I hate to mess around with D-drive unless instructed to by someone that
is far more educated than myself. I don't even know if that is why it shuts
down Explorer or if that is an issue between IE7 and flash 9.x. Have you
heard anything. Again thank you and sorry to be wordy.

And look at that I went to the Cubs MLB site and got another pop up.
Blank screen listed in the tab as Specific Media, inc. Address bar reads
(no www leaving out the hypertext//stuff so I dont get booted)
adopt.specificclick.net/adopt.sm?l=1935716037&sz=pop&r=h&redir=1&rnd=1182708538296.
I hope any of this helps.

Sorry to add here with no reply I'm absolutly not trying to bump as I know you are already helping. But on a side note I originally tried the link for newbies to download Ad-Aware personal se but the site (as far as I can tell) doesn't offer personal se anymore just 2007. I read the same complaints about 2007 but as Ad-Aware was one of the things to do first I went ahead with 2007. I tried to post perhaps a change to that newbie instruction but wasn't replied to. Yea I read it later it was probably unintelligable to anyone but me. It was late I had a little buzz on, but maybe you could deliver that suggestion to whomever is running that thread.

I don't see any malware on your machine.
If you don't have the Google toolbar popup blocker running, you can click Toolson the Google toolbar, and activate the Popup Blocker to reduce the nuisance level.

Thank you for all your help. I have another computer to do but I'll post a new thread for that one. It's the girlfriends and there has been no security (not even windows firewall) on it for atleast 4 years. It's filthy shame on her. I'm sure to need some help with that one. Thank you so very very much for being here. I think I might apply to the university once I get that one clean. You all are the best. Btw is there any site you could direct me to on the flash issue. Adobe has no help unless its a pay version.
