Hi carlrobison1,

Not looking bad :) it looks like your AV caught the nasties before they got very far

    Image
  • Untick the option to Unregister Dll's and Ocx's (1)
  • Select the contents of the below codebox, then press Ctrl+C to copy it to the clipboard
    Code: Select all
    C:\WINDOWS\systju.dll
    C:\WINDOWS\umxsypz.sys

  • In OTMoveIt Right click on the box labelled Paste List of Files/Folders to be Moved
  • Click Paste (2)
  • Click MoveIt! (3)
  • Copy and paste the contents of the results box (4) as a reply to this topic

Hi carlrobison1,

Congratulations your logs look clean :D

Let’s see if I can help you keep it that way

First lets tidy up :D

Open OTMoveIt Click Cleanup,
it will now connect to the internet and get a list of files to delete.
When a box pops up click YES.

Re-hide files and folders by following the previous instructions.

Now you should disable System restore to purge any infected files and then re-enable it, for help please click HERE

Reset System Restore.

On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.
Restart your computer

Turn ON System Restore

On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Un-Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

Regarding your original question
Also, I'm doing a lot of photo editing on this computer and need as much memory and CPU power as I can get
( I'm maxed out on memory for this computer so can't add any more).
Could somebody suggest everything that's unnecessary and can be deleted to make this run a little faster? Thanks!

The following items can be removed to cut down on running procecces.
Some of them are deemed to be "user" choice, I have put a link to the information so tha you can decide for yourself.
Just run your mouse down the list.
Fix With HJT
Close all other windows and then start HiJack This
Click Do A System Scan Only
When it has finished scanning put a check next to the following lines
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [iTunesHelper] "C:\Program Files\iTunes\iTunesHelper.exe"
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [QuickTime Task] "C:\Program Files\QuickTime\qttask.exe" -atboottime
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [iRiver Updater] \Updater.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [LWBMOUSE] C:\Program Files\Belkin Mouse 1.0\MOUSE32A.EXE
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Cmaudio] RunDll32 cmicnfg.cpl,CMICtrlWnd
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Advanced Tools Check] C:\PROGRA~1\NORTON~2\AdvTools\ADVCHK.EXE
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SunJavaUpdateSched] "C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.6.0_01\bin\jusched.exe"
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [NBJ] "C:\Program Files\Ahead\Nero BackItUp\NBJ.exe"
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [ctfmon.exe] C:\WINDOWS\system32\ctfmon.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [H/PC Connection Agent] "C:\Program Files\Microsoft ActiveSync\Wcescomm.exe"
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [updateMgr] "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 7.0\Reader\AdobeUpdateManager.exe" AcRdB7_0_8 -reboot 1
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [ISUSPM] "C:\Program Files\Common Files\InstallShield\UpdateService\ISUSPM.exe" -scheduler
O4 - Startup: Adobe Gamma.lnk = C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Calibration\Adobe Gamma Loader.exe
O4 - Global Startup: Adobe Reader Speed Launch.lnk = C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 7.0\Reader\reader_sl.exe
O4 - Global Startup: Microsoft Office.lnk = C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\OSA9.EXE
O4 - Global Startup: WinZip Quick Pick.lnk = C:\Program Files\WinZip\WZQKPICK.EXE

- Close ALL open windows (especially Internet Explorer!)-
Now click Fix checked
Click yes to any prompts
Close HijackThis

If you do remove these items then I would recommend that you install Winpatrol as some of them will try to put themselves back in the list.
Winpatrol is a good startup manager with a lot of functions, and best of all it has a free version which suits most peoples needs :)

Also PLEASE read this article

So How Did I Get Infected In The First Place

If you can see a program in the must have section that you have never seen or used then get it!

The last and most important thing I can tell you is UPDATE.
If you don't update your security programs (Antivirus, Antispyware even Windows) then you are at risk.
Malware changes on a day to day basis. You should update every week at the very least.

If you follow this advice then (with a bit of luck) you will never have to hear from me again :D

If you could post back one more time to let me know everything is OK, then I can have this thread archived.

Happy surfing K'

Katana, you rock!!!!! Everything is working great!!!

Let me ask you another question. My brother-in-law has a nice computer that's been infected for some time now. He is very computer illiterate and wouldn't be able to follow any instructions given to him.

We both run Win XP Professional. Is there a way I can log on to his computer remotely(I know this can be done with WinXP Pro, but don't know how), run HJT, send you the file and try to repair his computer the same way you did mine? I hope this makes sense. Thank you so much once again for your help!

I spent most of this afternoon cleaning his machine
(my brother-in-law's that is) :D

Hi carlrobison1,

I have had a chat with the more experienced, and the opinion is that
the "remote" method is not really a good option for several reasons.

1) Malware of today can be very tough to shift and, if as you say,
your brother-in-law has been infected for a while he could have a lot of rubbish there.

2) The need to reboot and run in safe mode that a lot of the tools need would cause many problems.

3) (This is my favorite) Why would you want to connect your nice newly cleaned machine to one that you know is infected !!!!

The best option would be to have him register here himself,
we have staff that are experienced in helping people that have limited PC skills.

If he gives his topic the title
Computer novice needs help

then we will know to give gentle instuctions :)
