Unread postby beljar2 » June 22nd, 2007, 10:50 pm

Feel free to just go to the hijackthis log proably nothing useful in my rant.

I am new here because until recently I had no idea about a free forum that would help me. My computer was almost dead and I had no clue what was wrond with it. During many frusrating days I came to learn about registry errors while searching for answers to my error mesages. I dont have much money so I only used freeware. I came across a forum that sugested using "Advanced WindowsCare V2 Personal" it made every thing far worse than it ever was. I eventualy went and bought Registry Repair which as stange as it may seem in conjunction with "Advanced WindowsCare V2 Personal" seemed to make every thing all better. To avoid repeating this situation which lasted weeks I down loaded some anti-virius and anti-adware programs like spy bot and adaware. After using them my computer is messed up again.
Now programs keep saying an error has occured yet again but if i try to use Registry Repair the only registry cleaner I can find that I wont have to buy because I already bought it the thing will give me that error message when it hits the program shortcuts section. Also spy bot just quits responding if I try to do something with it other than bring it up. Search for files and folders wont even work for more than a few moments.

Smitfraud-C fix wont even complete its task and this large recent proablem might be because i tried to use spy bot to get rid of it.

Well here is my hijack log.

beljar2,
Let's get started.
When you answer, please post all your responses as a Reply to this same topic.
Use the Post Reply button. Please Do not use New Topic.
If there is anything you can't do, or any instruction that you don't understand, then please let me know in a reply.
------------------------------------------------------------
You may want to print out these instructions for reference, since you will have to restart your computer during the fix.

Please download FixWareout from one of these sites:
http://downloads.subratam.org/Fixwareout.exe
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/files/lonny/Fixwareout.exe

Save it to your desktop and run it. Click Next, then Install, then make sure "Run fixit" is checked and click Finish. The fix will begin; follow the prompts. You will be asked to reboot your computer; please do so. Your system may take longer than usual to load; this is normal.

At the end of the fix, you may need to restart your computer again.

Finally, please post a fresh HijackThis log, along with the contents of the logfile C:\fixwareout\report.txt

Now lets check some settings on your system.
In the windows control panel. If you are using Windows XP's Category View, select the Network and Internet Connections category otherwise double click on Network Connections. Then right click on your default connection, usually local area connection for Cable and DSL, and left click on properties. Click the Networking tab. Double-click on the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) item and select the radio dial that says "Obtain DNS servers automatically"
Press OK twice to get out of the properties screen and reboot if it asks.
That option might not be available on some systems.
Next go Start, Run and type cmd and hit OK
now type:
ipconfig /flushdns
(note that a space between g and / is needed)
then hit Enter, type exit and hit Enter again.

beljar2,
Making progress.
-----------------------------------------------------------
Set Your Computer to Show All Files
  1. Click Start.
  2. Click My Computer.
  3. Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
  4. Select the View Tab.
  5. Under the Hidden files and folders heading, select Show hidden files and folders.
  6. Uncheck Hide protected operating system files (recommended).

In addition, go to Start, Search. When you click on 'All files and folders' on the left pane, click on the 'More advanced options' at the bottom. Make sure that 'Search system folders', 'Search hidden files and folders', and 'Search subfolders' are checked.
-----------------------------------------------------------
Stop Processes Prior to Deletion
Close ALL open windows. Use Ctrl-Alt-Delete together to bring up the task manager.
Under the processes tab, if it is visible, check the box 'Show processes from all users'.
One at a time, highlight each of these that are listed and "End Process":
urpkvh.exe
THGuard.exe

-----------------------------------------------------------
File Deletion.
In Windows Explorer (My Computer), navigate to the files shown below, select View, Details, highlight each listed file only, one at a time, and press Delete. Be careful not to delete any file without double-checking the exact spelling of the filename.

C:\WINNT\urpkvh.exe <===this file only

If you have any problem deleting a file, right click the file and choose Properties to see if it's read-only. Uncheck the read-only box, click Apply and OK. Then retry Delete.
Please Note the name and location of any item you cannot delete, or any file not found.
-----------------------------------------------------------
YOU HAVE NO ANTI-VIRUS PROGRAM
Download just one of these free anti-virus programs, update it and run a full scan. Have it fix anything it finds.
*Grisoft AVG from here : http://free.grisoft.com/doc/1
*AntiVir Free from here : http://www.free-av.com/
*Avast Home Edition from here : http://www.avast.com/eng/down_home.html

Take extra care in answering questions posed by any Uninstaller. Some questions may be worded to deceive you into Keeping the program.
-----------------------------------------------------------
Post a New HJT Log
Reboot your computer. Start HijackThis. Click Do System Scan and Save a Log File.
When the Scan is complete, select the whole log (Ctrl-A), copy and paste the log contents in a reply.

Your log looks OK.
In order to provide extra security going forward, I would suggest the following:
-----------------------------------------------------------
Install SpywareBlaster - SpywareBlaster will add a large list of programs and sites to your Internet Explorer settings that will protect you from accidentally running or downloading known malicious programs. Available from http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html
After the installation, click Download Latest Protection Updates. When it finishes, click Enable All Protection.
-----------------------------------------------------------
Download and Install a HOSTS File
A Hosts file is a plain text file which prevents your computer from inadvertently connecting to malware, spyware and adware sites by redirecting the connection request back to your own machine address (127.0.0.1). It is a very effective defense system.

Be sure to disable the service "DNS Client" FIRST to allow the use of large HOSTS files without slowdowns.
If this isn't done first, the next reboot may take a VERY LONG TIME.
This is how to do it. First be sure you are signed in as a user with administrative privileges:
Stop and Disable the DNS Client Service
Go to Start, Run and type Services.msc and click OK.
Under the Extended Tab, Scroll down and find this service.
DNS Client
Right-Click on the DNS Client Service. Choose Properties
Select the General tab. Click on the Stop button.
Click the Arrow-down tab on the right-hand side at the Start-up Type box.
From the drop-down menu, click on Manual
Click the Apply tab, then click OK

Download BlueTack's HOSTS Manager here:
http://www.bluetack.co.uk/forums/index.php?act=dscript&CODE=showdetails&f_id=5
If you download and install it first, then click Download.
When it finishes, click Replace, and then Save.
You can use this manager to handle your HOSTS file download, edits, and most any other HOSTS issue.

Read an excellent instruction about HOSTS files (the Bluetack version) here:
http://www.bluetack.co.uk/forums/index.php?showtopic=8406

If you have a firewall, you may have to give permission to Unlock the present default HOSTS file before you copy / install the new one.
You may also have to give additional permission during installation of the new one.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
You can see another HOSTS file tutorial here : http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/hosts.htm
and choose to download the MVPS HOSTS File instead of using the BlueTack HOSTS.
The BlueTack version (70k+ entries) is more aggressive than the mvps (11k + entries), and targets adware sites as well as more dangerous ones.
