Help Please - adware.webbuy

Unread postby hopeless2 » June 20th, 2007, 12:02 am

My work computer has the adware.webbuy virus. I have read some of the posts here and mine is the same (symantic displays error multiple times with no fix), however...when I login, explorer.exe is taking up 99% of CPU. I was finally able to download the superanitspyware, but instead of quartine, I deleted them. Has anyone had a similar problem and/or knows of a possible solution? Also, with the explorer/cpu at 99 - 100%, I can't run HijackThis. Well, actually I can, but it will time-out (get error program not responding). Any other suggestions other than lose all my files on my hard drive and let our I/T guy swap it out?

Hi! Welcome to the Malware Removal forums.
My name is Scotty. I would be glad to take a look at your log and help you with solving any malware problems. HijackThis logs can take a while to research.
Please be patient and I'd be grateful if you would note the following:
  • I will working be on your Malware issues, this may or may not, solve other issues you have with your machine.
  • The fixes are specific to your problem and should only be used for this issue on this machine.
  • Please continue to review my answers until I tell you your machine appears to be clear. Absence of symptoms does not mean that everything is clear.
  • It's often worth reading through these instructions and printing them for ease of reference.
  • If you don't know or understand something, please don't hesitate to say or ask!! It's better to be sure and safe than sorry.
  • Please reply to this thread. Do not start a new topic.

As an Undergraduate, my fixes have to be checked before I post to you, so my replies may take a while longer. Please be patient.

Hi hopeless2

Could you press Ctrl+Alt+Delete to open Task Manager. Click on the Processes tab and stop all process in the name of explorer.exe. Then try to run Hijackthis.

If that doesnt work, is it possible for you to download HijackThis onto another computer, and unzip it onto a flash drive, then run it on your machine?
