Virus Files Regenerating - Assistance Needed

Over the weekend it appears that my computer was infected with some virus files from an unsecured website, and now I am experiencing the following problems:
-Pop-up Ads keep appearing on my screen (http://www.Pokerparty.com, Aurora ads, http://adshttp.com, etc.)
-When I open internet explorer (home page set to http://www.yahoo.com) I see on the bottom of the screen that the page is trying to redirect to http://badurl.grandstreetinteractive.com
-Slower response time on the computer
-Norton Personal Firewall keeps popping up with Alert messages that files that I do not recognize are trying to access the internet (one example is a file named jfqlgjvwv.exe which I keep blocking and then deleting from the C: Windows and C: Windown/prefetch folders, but the files keep coming back after every reboot).

I currently am running Windows XP, and have Symantec Anti-Vitus installed (fully updated), Ad-Aware SE (fully updated), and am running 2 Firewalls (Norton Personal Firewall and BlackIce). However, I think the BlackIce may be compromised, because every time I start the computer and put my mouse over the BlackIce icon it always says "engine service stopped" even though when I look at the Properties it says the engine has started.

I have run Ad-Aware several times and every time it finds about 99 Critical threat files, which I Quarantine/Delete. However, the next time I reboot and run the scan again more files are detected. This is becoming a cycle of steps that doesn't seem to be solving the problem.

Can you please help?

Hello Galak, Welcome to the Forum.

There's a new version of HijackThis.

Please delete any HijackThis Folders and Files you have now.


Please download this self extracting file to your My Downloads folder or My Received Files (dependent on your Operating System):

http://www.merijn.org/files/hijackthis_sfx.exe

Click the "Save" button.

Navigate to My Documents>Chose My Downloads or My Received Files folder once inside that folder click "Save".

Now go to the folder you saved HijackThis_sfx.exe in.

Double click HijackThis_sfx.exe and select Unzip. When done click "OK".
Close the WinZip self Extractor window.

Open HijackThis and select: Do a system scan and save a log file.

When the scan is finished, Click Edit> Select All> Edit> Copy> and paste its contents here [Add Reply].

Do Not fix anything. Someone experienced with the logs will help you.

Hi Galak,

Welcome to MWR Forums,

Print this off so you can follow it

First lets tackle the Nail Infection (Aurora problem)

Please do as follows:

Please download the trial version of Ewido Security Suite here: (however from your HJT Log it looks as though you have it, I have provided the link though should you need it) http://www.ewido.net/en/download/
Install it, and update the definitions to the newest files. Do NOT run a scan yet.

Please download Nailfix from here:
http://www.noidea.us/easyfile/file.php? ... 5010747824
Unzip it to the desktop but please do NOT run it yet.

Next, please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following:
1) Restart your computer
2) After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.
3) Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear
4) Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode.

For additional help in booting into Safe Mode, see the following site:
http://www.pchell.com/support/safemode.shtml


Once in Safe Mode, please double-click on Nailfix.cmd. Your desktop and icons will disappear and reappear, and a window should open and close very quickly --- this is normal.

Then please run Ewido, and run a full scan. Save the logfile from the scan.

Next please run HijackThis, click Scan, and check:

F2 - REG:system.ini: Shell=Explorer.exe C:\WINDOWS\Nail.exe

Close all open windows except for HijackThis and click Fix Checked.

Restart your computer in normal mode and please post a new HijackThis log, as well as the log from the Ewido scan

Hi Galak,

Print this off so you can follow it

Please Download RKFiles.zip - http://skads.org/special/rkfiles.zip

Create a new folder C:\Antispyware\RKFiles
Extract the contents of RKFiles.zip into the new folder you just created.


Next, Create a new Folder on Desktop. Name that Folder QOOLOGIC
Please download Findqoologic into the new Folder, and then unzip it into the new Folder. - http://forums.net-integration.net/index ... &id=134981

Restart to safe mode. (tap f8 key during bootup)

Open the C:\Antispyware\RKFiles folder
Double click on RKFILES.BAT

Give it time to run. this may take a while.
Save the text file it creates.
It should save by default to C:\Log.txt

Next, open the QOOLOGIC Folder and Locate and double-click the Find-Qoologic.bat file to run it.
Wait until a text file opens, post it in a reply to your thread after doing the rest of what follows here.
It'll take a while to run a full scan so please be patient.

Restart into regular Windows mode and post the contents of C:\log.txt and the find-qoologic results.

Ok as it has been several days, please can you run the Qoologic and RKFiles Scans again and post the Log's they create back here along with a new Hijackthis Log
