Sure I must have something nasty lurking, but am not sure how to get rid of them. My AVG software scans tells me there are two trojans, but I can locate them to delete them.

Any help would be gratefully received.

Hi Maria.

You appear to have two anti-virus programs running with real-time protection - McAfee and AVG. This will usually cause problems and conflicts. It is also counter-productive as it will provide less protection - not more. Please remove one of them and let me know what you have done.

You also don't appear to have a software firewall running. Are you using Windows XP Firewall? If not, I suggest that you switch it on immediately. I will make further recommendations about this later.

-------------------------------------------------------------

Please disable Windows Defender until we have finished. It could interfere with our 'fix'.
  • Open Windows Defender
  • Click Tools => General Settings
  • Scroll down and uncheck Turn on real-time protection (recommended).
  • Click Save
  • Close Windows Defender
-------------------------------------------------------------

Download win32delfkil.exe and save it on your desktop.
  • Close all windows.
  • Double click on win32delfkil.exe to start the removal tool.
  • The computer will reboot automatically.
  • After reboot a logfile will open: C:\windelf.txt
----------------------------------------------------

Please post, as a reply to this thread:
  • The WinDelf log
  • A new HijackThis log
Please also let me know the position regarding the anti-virus programs.

Good morning!

I've uninstalled AVG.

I've disabled Windows Defender (didn't even know I had it!)

I've downloaded the .exe file, but can't get it to run...

I don't appear to have a Windows XP Firewall.

And here is my HJT log:

Hi Maria.

To turn on Windows Firewall:
  • Click on Start
  • Open Control Panel
  • Select Windows Firewall
  • Select On then click OK
-----------------------------------------------

Please rename win32delfkil.exe, on your desktop, as PlanA.exe. The 'nasty' may be stopping it running and this could fool it and enable the program to run.
  • Close all windows.
  • Double click on PlanA.exe to start the removal tool.
  • The computer will reboot automatically.
  • After reboot a logfile will open: C:\windelf.txt
---------------------------------------------

If the program still doesn't run, please do the following:

ComboFix by sUBs
  • Download this file - ComboFix.exe
  • Rename ComboFix.exe as PlanB.exe
  • Close all open windows.
  • Double click PlanB.exe and follow the prompts.
  • When finished, it will produce a log for you. Please post that log in your next reply
Important: Do not mouseclick ComboFix's window whilst it's running. That may cause it to stall

Please split the log into separate posts to ensure that they don't get cut off. It is important that I see the full log.

Note: ComboFix may reset a number of Internet Explorer's settings, including making it the default browser.

---------------------------------------------------

Please post, as a reply to this thread (you may need more than one post):
  • The WinDelf log or the ComboFix report
  • A new HijackThis log
