Download Pocket Killbox from here: http://www.downloads.subratam.org/KillBox.zip

Unzip the files to a folder, then open and double-click on Killbox.exe to run it. In the "Paste Full Path of File to Delete" box, copy and paste the following. It seems that the function to paste all of them at once doesn't work properly, so you will have to enter them one at a time. After entering one, Check the box to delete on reboot and click the red X to the right. Click OK, then select no on the reboot prompt. Continue with the next one until done. After the last one, select yes when prompted to reboot.

After rebooting, do a scan with Ad Aware SE.

Download Ad-aware Second Edition here and install it. If you already have Ad-aware Second Edition skip to the next step.

Open adaware and Click the "Check for updates now" line on the main screen. CLick the "Connect" button on the webupdate screen.

If an update is available download it and install it. Click the "Finish" button to go back to the main screen.

Click on the "Settings" button (gear symbol in the upper right corner of the main status screen) in the quick launch toolbar to open the General settings screen. Make sure the "Automatically quarantine objects prior to removal" setting is checked greenand then click "Proceed" to save your changes.

Click the "Scan now" button in the main menu on the left side of the main status screen or use the "Start" button in lower right corner. This will open the Preparing System Scan screen. Please deselect "Search for negligible risk entries", as negligible risk entries (MRU's) are not considered to be a threat. Then select "Use custom scanning options" and click "CUstomize". This will open the "Scan Settings Page. Make sure all of the following are On with a green checkmark:
  • Scan within archives

Then click on the "Tweak" Button to open up the tweak settings.

Open up the Scanning Engine section and make sure all of the following are On with a green checkmark:
  • Scan registry for all users instead of current user only
  • Make sure the following is unchecked with a red X:
  • Unload recognized processes & modules during scan.
Open up the Cleaning Engine section and make sure all of the following are On with a green checkmark:
  • Always try to unload modules before deletion
  • During Removal, unload Explorer and IE if necessary
  • Let Windows remove files in use at next reboot.

Click the "Proceed" button to save settings. Click next to begin the scan. When the scan is completed, the Performing System Scan screen will change name to "Scan Complete".

Click the "Next" button to get to the Scanning Results screens where more information about the objects detected during the scan is available.

Click the Critical Objects Tab. In general all of the items listed will be bad. To fix all the bad critical objects do the following:

Right click on one of them to open up the selection screen. Click the "Select All" button to select all entries. Then all are selected Click "Next" and then "OK" in the pop-up window to confirm the removal.

You should be clean after all of that. Let me know how it goes.

"During Removal, unload Explorer and IE if necessary"

Re run hyjack Log and found it has 4 extra entries again,

What's the status of your Trojan Hunter? If you did the free trial, you opnly get one update and that's it. If it's been awhile, then it isn't helping much anymore. If it is paid for, then do a scan with it.

Scan with Hijackthis and check the boxes next to all these,

O2 - BHO: SearchToolbarBHOObject - {12EE7A5E-0674-42f9-A76A-000000004D00} - C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\STLB2.DLL
O3 - Toolbar: Search - {12EE7A5E-0674-42f9-A76B-000000004D00} - C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\STLB2.DLL
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [{12EE7A5E-0674-42f9-A76B-000000004D00}] rundll32.exe stlb2.dll,DllRunMain
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [A70F6A1D-0195-42a2-934C-D8AC0F7C08EB] rundll32.exe E6F1873B.DLL,D9EBC318C
O9 - Extra button: Related - {c95fe080-8f5d-11d2-a20b-00aa003c157a} - C:\WINDOWS\web\related.htm
O9 - Extra 'Tools' menuitem: Show &Related Links - {c95fe080-8f5d-11d2-a20b-00aa003c157a} - C:\WINDOWS\web\related.htm

Now close all other windows, then click Fix Checked.

After that, restart the computer in Safe mode. When the computer is starting, begin tapping the F8 key on your keyboard. Continue to do so until the Windows Advanced Options menu appears. Using the arrow keys on the keyboard, scroll to and select the Safe mode menu item, and then press Enter.

Enable hidden files by doing this:

* Double-click My Computer.
* Click the Tools menu, and then click Folder Options.
* Click the View tab.
* Clear "Hide file extensions for known file types."
* Under the "Hidden files" folder, select "Show hidden files and folders."
* Clear "Hide protected operating system files."
* Click Apply, and then click OK.

Then find and delete these files:

C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\STLB2.DLL
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\E6F1873B.DLL

Let's try a different online scan, http://housecall.trendmicro.com/

Hi Nick,

Got up to this point on your instructions=

Then find and delete these files:
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\STLB2.DLL <---Could not Find,
But found a file STLB2.xml, did not delete it.
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\E6F1873B.DLL <---Deleted

Could not do the housecall scan, as now I can not go
anywhere on the internet, it just saids can't find
no matter what I clcik on.
Was wondering If an extra file or 2 has been deleted from
the Hyjack Log. Right now there are 16 entries, where
when we thought it was clean there were 18 entries.
I am on a different computer right down, but the
two missing entrie are with=
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Page...
O14 - IERESET.INF: START_PAGE_URL=e4me.com

So what do you think, sorry for all the trouble.

Nothing that has been fixed should affect your Internet connectivity. Download winsockfix from this page and put it on a floppy or cd to move it to the other computer. http://www.itc.virginia.edu/central/dis ... &nav=title

If that doesn't work, we'll take it from there.

Winsockfix does wonders for broken Internet problems.

Press ctrl and alt and delete and end this process

C:\MJSVN.EXE

Now Scan with Hijackthis and check the boxes next to all these,

O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Efcpcqf] \mjsvn.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Borb] C:\Program Files\ardu\uscp.exe

Now close all other windows, then click Fix Checked.

After that, restart the computer in Safe mode. When the computer is starting, begin tapping the F8 key on your keyboard. Continue to do so until the Windows Advanced Options menu appears. Using the arrow keys on the keyboard, scroll to and select the Safe mode menu item, and then press Enter.

Enable hidden files by doing this:

* Double-click My Computer.
* Click the Tools menu, and then click Folder Options.
* Click the View tab.
* Clear "Hide file extensions for known file types."
* Under the "Hidden files" folder, select "Show hidden files and folders."
* Clear "Hide protected operating system files."
* Click Apply, and then click OK.

Then find and delete these files:

C:\Program Files\ardu\uscp.exe
mjsvn.exe <-- need to search for this one

I'm going to have to bring this topic to a close since it's been a month now that we've been working on it. You seem to keep gettinmg new infections and not all of them are because you have an outdated OS. You'll need to be careful of what you are downloading and installing. I would do as much as the following that you can do to help prevent problems in the future:

please follow these simple steps in order to keep your computer clean and secure:
  1. Disable and Enable System Restore. - If you are using Windows ME or XP then you should disable and re-enable system restore to make sure there are no infected files found in a restore point.
You can find instructions on how to enable and re enable system restore here:
    Managing Windows Millennium System Restore
    or
    Windows XP System Restore Guide
re-enable system restore with instructions from tutorial above
  2. Make your Internet Explorer more secure - This can be done by following these simple instructions:
    1. From within Internet Explorer click on the Tools menu and then click on Options.
    2. Click once on the Security tab
    3. Click once on the Internet icon so it becomes highlighted.
    4. Click once on the Custom Level button.
      1. Change the Download signed ActiveX controls to Prompt
      2. Change the Download unsigned ActiveX controls to Disable
      3. Change the Initialise and script ActiveX controls not marked as safe to Disable
      4. Change the Installation of desktop items to Prompt
      5. Change the Launching programs and files in an IFRAME to Prompt
      6. Change the Navigate sub-frames across different domains to Prompt
      7. When all these settings have been made, click on the OK button.
      8. If it prompts you as to whether or not you want to save the settings, press the Yes button.
    5. Next press the Apply button and then the OK to exit the Internet Properties page.
  3. Use an Anti Virus Software - It is very important that your computer has an anti-virus software running on your machine. This alone can save you a lot of trouble with malware in the future. See this link for a listing of some on line & their stand-alone anti virus programs:
Computer Safety On line - Anti-Virus
  4. Update your Anti Virus Software - It is imperitive that you update your Anti virus software at least once a week (Even more if you wish). If you do not update your anti virus software then it will not be able to catch any of the new variants that may come out.
  5. Use a Firewall - I can not stress how important it is that you use a Firewall on your computer. Without a firewall your computer is susceptible to being hacked and taken over. Simply using a Firewall in its default configuration can lower your risk greatly. For an article on Firewalls and a listing of some available ones see the link below:
Computer Safety On line - Software Firewalls
  6. Visit Microsoft's Windows Update Site Frequently - It is important that you visit http://www.windowsupdate.com regularly. This will ensure your computer has always the latest security updates available installed on your computer. If there are new updates to install, install them immediately, reboot your computer, and revisit the site until there are no more critical updates.
  7. Install Spybot - Search and Destroy - Install and download Spybot - Search and Destroy with its TeaTimer option.
This will provide real-time spyware & hijacker protection on your computer alongside your virus protection. You should also scan your computer with program on a regular basis just as you would an anti virus software. A tutorial on installing & using this product can be found here:
    Instructions for - Spybot S & D and Ad-aware
  8. Install Ad-Aware - Install and download Ad-Aware. You should also scan your computer with the program on a regular basis just as you would an anti virus software in conjunction with Spybot. A tutorial on installing & using this product can be found here:
    Instructions for - Spybot S & D and Ad-aware
  9. Install SpywareBlaster - SpywareBlaster will added a large list of programs and sites into your Internet Explorer settings that will protect you from running and downloading known malicious programs. A article on anti-malware products with links for this program and others can be found here:
Computer Safety on line - Anti-Malware
  10. Update all these programs regularly - Make sure you update all the programs I have listed regularly. Without regular updates you WILL NOT be protected when new malicious programs are released.
Follow this list and your potential for being infected again will reduce dramatically.

Hi Nick,
I did what you siad to do, found all files
you said to delete, etc. but 2 files are back
similar to the ones I fixed. I have a record of
what my log should look like, should I just delete
any that don't belong there?
