Hello and welcome,

Which scan did tell you about a keylogger ? Did it specify a file and/or a name ? If yes, post the information.
Some scanners may flag legit programs as they could be used for bad purposes.

Hijackthis is running from a Temp folder. In order to create and keep backups, Hijackthis needs to run from it's own folder.

Download HijackThis to your Desktop or to your usual Download Folder.
http://downloads.malwareremoval.com/HJTsetup.exe

Double click on HJTSetup.exe and by default it should install to C:\Program Files\Hijack This
Continue through the setup and let it create a Desktop Icon.
Follow all the prompts, click Finish, and let the installer start HijackThis.

Click on Open the Misc Tools Section, put a checkmark in List also minor sections and List empty sections. Click on Generate StartupList log, anwser Yes and copy/paste the content in your reply.
Click Back and Click on Scan. When the scan is finished, click Save Log and paste the content in your reply.

Please do an online scan with Kaspersky Online Scanner

Notice!
A new version of Kaspersky Virus Scanner has been released on August 8, 2006. If you have installed a previous version, you must unistall that program first before installing the new version. To uninstall, please go to the computer control panel and select "Add/Remove Programs." Close all Internet Explorer windows before uninstalling the Kaspersky Online Scanner.

Click on Kaspersky Online Scanner

You will be promted to install an ActiveX component from Kaspersky, Click Yes.
Note for Internet Explorer 7 users: If at any time you have trouble with the accept button of the licence, click on the Zoom tool located at the right bottom of the IE window and set the zoom to 75 %. Once the license accepted, reset to 100%.
  • The program will launch and then start to download the latest definition files.
  • Once the scanner is installed and the definitions downloaded, click Next.
  • Now click on Scan Settings
  • In the scan settings make that the following are selected:
    • Scan using the following Anti-Virus database:
      • Extended (If available otherwise Standard)
    • Scan Options:
      • Scan Archives
      • Scan Mail Bases
  • Click OK
  • Now under select a target to scan select My Computer
  • The scan will take a while so be patient and let it run. Once the scan is complete it will display if your system has been infected.
  • Now click on the Save Report As button:
    • Save the file to your desktop.
    • File Type: Text file (*.txt).
    • Name: Kav.txt for example
  • Copy and paste that information in your next post.

Hello :)

Can you post the Kaspersky log please. Thanks.

I did notice this file :
C:\Sonysys\cleanup.exe

I presume you have a Sony Vaio, but can you tell me if that file belongs to Sony applications or not ? Right click and check it's properties, look for company name and version.

In doubt upload to Jotti's scanner or Virustotal and post back results.

Ok, well let's try to find out if you have / had really a keylogger then as Hijackthis does not show it's presence.

Ok, a few things to clean up in your Java cache. Follow the instructions below please.

Keep all browsers closed. Click on Start then Control Panel
Double click on the Java plug-in icon (there may be more than one). The Java Control Panel appears.
  1. Click Settings under Temporary Internet Files. The Temporary Files Settings dialog box appears.
  2. Click the Delete Files. The Delete Temporary Files dialog box appears.
Put a checkmark next to the three options on this window to clear the cache.
    • Downloaded Applets
    • Downloaded Applications
    • Other Files
  3. Click Ok on the Delete Temporary Files window.
  4. Click Ok on Temporary Files Settings window.
If there are other Java plug-in icons... perform the same action on all of them. That should clean out the infected files.

2 Optional items to fix

1. I see that Viewpoint is installed. Viewpoint, Viewpoint Manager, Viewpoint Media Player are Viewpoint components which are installed as a side effect of installing other software, most notably AOL and AOL Instant Messenger (AIM). Viewpoint Manager is responsible for managing and updating Viewpoint Media Player’s components. You can disable this using the Viewpoint Manager Control Panel found in the Windows Control Panel menu. By selecting Disable auto‑updating for the Viewpoint Manager ‑‑ the player will no longer attempt to check for updates. Anything that is installed without your consent is suspect. Read what Viewpoint says and make your own decision.
To provide a satisfying consumer experience and to operate effectively, the Viewpoint Media Player periodically sends information to servers at Viewpoint. Each installation of the Viewpoint Media Player is identifiable to Viewpoint via a Customer Unique Identifier (CUID), an alphanumeric identifier embedded in the Viewpoint Media Player. The Viewpoint Media Player randomly generates the CUID during installation and uses it to indicate a unique installation of the product. A CUID is never connected to a user's name, email address, or other personal contact information. CUIDs are used for the sole purpose of filtering redundant information. Each of these information exchanges occurs anonymously.

Viewpoint Manager is considered as foistware instead of malware since it is installed without user's approval but doesn't spy or do anything "bad". This may change, read Viewpoint to Plunge Into Adware.
I recommend that you remove the Viewpoint products; however, decide for yourself. To uninstall the the Viewpoint components (Viewpoint, Viewpoint Manager, Viewpoint Media Player):
  1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
  2. In Control Panel, double-click Add or Remove Programs.
  3. In Add or Remove Programs, highlight >>Viewpoint component<< , click Remove.
  4. Do the same for each Viewpoint component.
Reboot the PC.

Run Hijackthis, look after the line below :

O23 - Service: Viewpoint Manager Service - Viewpoint Corporation - C:\Program Files\Viewpoint\Common\ViewpointService.exe

If still listed : Click Start > Run and type cmd.exe and hit enter

Type each of the following commands, followed by enter.

sc stop "Viewpoint Manager Service"
sc delete "Viewpoint Manager Service"

Close the CMD window.

2. O23 - Service: Sony SPTI Service (SPTISRV) - Sony Corporation - C:\Program Files\Common Files\Sony Shared\AVLib\SPTISRV.exe

Sptisrv.exe (Sony SPTI Service) process can be removed to free up resources without compromising system performance. It is a Legitimate service from Sony. Possibly for video on demand from Sony Pictures Television International (SPTI). This program is not required to start automatically as you can start it manually if you need it. It is advised that you disable this program so that it does not take up necessary resources. Many users have reported this process slows their boot time.

  1. Click Start > Run.
  2. Type in services.msc.
  3. Click Enter.
  4. Scroll down and double-click on the service identified in the 023 line of HijackThis.
  5. Click Stop and then set the Startup Type to Disabled.

This is indeed a keylogger but a commercial one.
http://www.elite-keylogger.com/

Elite Keylogger works in low-kernel mode as a driver-based monitoring software recording every detail of PC and Internet activity. It is the optimum solution for homes, families, small and middle offices, as well as big companies with the need to monitor hundreds of employees. Elite Keylogger is driver mode low kernel Keylogger.

Actually it lives in System Restore, that can be cleaned out by resetting your restore points. We will do that later on.

Anyone else that uses the PC ?

Download Gmer to your Desktop and unzip it to your Desktop.
http://www.gmer.net/gmer.zip

Disconnect from internet and close running programs.
There is a small chance this application may crash your computer so save any work you have open.
Double click gmer.exe.
Let the gmer.sys driver load if asked.
If it gives you a warning at program start about rootkit activity and asks if you want to run scan...say Ok.
If no warning....
Click the rootkit tab. You will see plenty of options checked at the right side, leave everything checked except "show all" and click Scan.
Wait for scan to finish.

Once done click the Copy button.
Open Notepad and hit ctrl+v to paste the log.
Save the log to your desktop.

Don't delete anything with Gmer yourself or you could break your PC !

Post the gmer log and a fresh hijackthis log please.

Hello,

before i uninstall viewpoint wat does it do i stoped the auto updates but i would kike to no what it is suposed to do y is it on my comp in the 1st place?

As I said above, it often comes with other software. I did notice that AIM is installed so the Viewpoint player was probably bundled with that.
Viewpoint reports back home stats about your habits, it is an Internet Marketing tool.
This is what the Player can do :
http://www.viewpoint.com/technologies/v ... ayer.shtml

The Company : http://www.viewpoint.com/
Viewpoint Corporation is an Internet marketing technology company that focuses on using its technical capabilities to help companies market their products and services on the Internet. The Company offers a suite of digital products, services and consulting for Internet.

Stopping updates is fine, you can decide later on if you want to fully remove it. But be aware that if you reinstall AIM, viewpoint will return too probably.

and by crash ur computer do u mean i cant use it any more?

No, when you play a game, your game may crash and lock up the PC. Sometimes you have to reboot to use the PC again. Well gmer can lock up the PC too and / or make a BSOD (the infamous blue screen). That is all. :)
Just one thing, just scan and don't fix things yourself ok.

also srry about the second topic i didnt mean to som one told me that bumpng the topic is bad and i wont get help for a long time so i made a new one cuz i needed help fast

No worries about that.

Hello gamerking#1,

Your computer does NOT have a keylogger running. Whatever happend, the keylogger is not active anymore, so you don't need to worry about it.

But, do me one favor please ... if your parents use the computer, show them this topic. If they used the PC for banking, they might be in danger and personal info might have been stolen in the case that the keylogger was installed without your or their knowlegde, you really need to warn them about it. It is really important you know.

Ok, now I have 2 more tasks for you. Java needs an update and System Restore needs to be cleaned up. Follow instructions below please.

Turn off System Restore
  1. Click Start, right-click My Computer, and then click Properties.
  2. Click the System Restore tab.
  3. Select the Turn off System Restore check box (or the Turn off System Restore on all drives check box), and then click OK.
  4. Click Yes when you receive the prompt to the turn off System Restore.
Reboot your computer.

Turn System Restore back on
  1. Click Start, right-click My Computer, and then click Properties.
  2. Click the System Restore tab.
  3. Clear the Turn off System Restore check box (or the Turn off System Restore on all drives check box), and then click OK.
A new restore point will be created automatically.

  • Close any programs you may have running - especially your web browser.
  • Go to Start > Control Panel double-click on Add/Remove programs and remove all older versions of Java.
  • Check any item with Java Runtime Environment (JRE or J2SE) in the name.
  • Click the Remove or Change/Remove button.
  • Repeat as many times as necessary to remove each Java versions.
  • Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed.
  • Then from your desktop double-click on jre-6-windows-i586.exe to install the newest version.
And in the future, remember to remove older versions of Java when you update to a newer version to avoid exploitation of older versions left on your system.

Check out these topics for more information:

Report back please and let me know if everything went ok.

You can post back, ask for a checkup whenever you want, you don't need to wait until you really have "virus" or "malware" trouble. :)
A monthly or 2 weeks checkup is ok, don't worry about that.
