I am sorry. I edited the my previous post. You might try it again. Could you post (reply) with the results of the firewall test here so I could review it?

You may be fine with your Freedom software. I am just trying to make sure that everything is fine. So please bear with me. I have some research to do.

Good work utdarkviper!

Everything looks fine.

I was not familiar with the Freedom anti-virus and firewall. Most anti-virus applications have 023 entries in the hijackthis and I did not see one with the Freedom so I was not sure if everything was set correctly. Thank you for being patient.

This application is useful for deletion of temporary files, cookies (like what Panda found), etc.
Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune.

This program is for XP and Windows 2000 only
  • Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
  • Under Main choose: Select All
  • Click the Empty Selected button.
If you use Firefox browser
  • Click Firefox at the top and choose:Select All
  • Click the Empty Selected button.
  • NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click
  • No at the prompt.
If you use Opera browser
  • Click Opera at the top and choose: Select All
  • Click the Empty Selected button.
  • NOTE:If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.
Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.
For Technical Support, double-click the e-mail address located at the bottom of each menu.

STEP 1.
======
DON’T BECOME OVERCONFIDENT WITH ANTIVIRUS APPLICATIONS INSTALLED!!!

http://www.malwareremoval.com/forum/viewtop ... 6ea0b5e8ee
Stay up to date on security patches and be extremely wary of clicking on links and attachments that arrive unbidden in instant messages and e-mail.

"The number one thing the majority of the malicious code we're seeing now does is disable or delete anti-virus and other security software," Dunham said. "In a lot of cases, once the user clicks on that attachment, it's already too late."

Now that you are clean, please follow these simple steps in order to keep your computer clean and secure:

  1. Update your AntiVirus Software - It is imperative that you update your Antivirus software at least once a week (Even more if you wish). If you do not update your antivirus software then it will not be able to catch any of the new variants that may come out.

  2. Visit Microsoft's Update Site Frequently - It is important that you visit Windows Updates regularly. This will ensure your computer has always the latest security updates available installed on your computer. If there are new updates to install, install them immediately, reboot your computer, and revisit the site until there are no more critical updates.

  3. Install Spybot - Search and Destroy - Install and download Spybot - Search and Destroy with its TeaTimer option. This will provide realtime spyware & hijacker protection on your computer alongside your virus protection. You should also scan your computer with program on a regular basis just as you would an antivirus software.
A tutorial on installing & using this product can be found here:
Using Spybot - Search & Destroy to remove Spyware , Malware, and Hijackers

  4. Install Ad-Aware - Install and download Ad-Aware. ou should also scan your computer with program on a regular basis just as you would an antivirus software in conjunction with Spybot.
A tutorial on installing & using this product can be found here:
Using Ad-aware to remove Spyware, Malware, & Hijackers from Your Computer

  5. Install SpywareBlaster - SpywareBlaster will added a large list of programs and sites into your Internet Explorer settings that will protect you from running and downloading known malicious programs.
A tutorial on installing & using this product can be found here:
Using SpywareBlaster to protect your computer from Spyware and Malware

  6. Updating Java
    • Download the latest version of Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6.0.
    • Scroll down to where it says "The J2SE Runtime Environment (JRE) allows end-users to run Java applications".
    • Click the "Download" button to the right.
    • Check the box that says: "Accept License Agreement".
    • The page will refresh.
    • Click on the link to download Windows Offline Installation with or without Multi-language and save to your desktop.
    • Close any programs you may have running - especially your web browser.
    • Go to Start > Control Panel double-click on Add/Remove programs and remove all older versions of Java.
    • Check any item with Java Runtime Environment (JRE or J2SE) in the name.
    • Click the Remove or Change/Remove button.
    • Repeat as many times as necessary to remove each Java versions.
    • Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed.
    • Then from your desktop double-click on jre-6-windows-i586.exe to install the newest version.

  7. Update all these programs regularly - Make sure you update all the programs I have listed regularly. Without regular updates you WILL NOT be protected when new malicious programs are released.

  8. More info on how to prevent malware you can also find here (By Tony Klein)

Follow this list and your potential for being infected again will reduce dramatically.

Thank you for allowing me to assist you.

...believe it or not...this message came up as I was about to restart after uninstalling the old J2SE files:

A virus has been found
Virus name:
Unkown
Infected file:
D:\SYSTEM VOLUME INFORMATION\_RESTORE{46DE8921-1D39-44D2-A9E9-64119261F211}\RP2\A0001075.EXE
Details:
The file couldn't be disinfected, and was deleted instead. Run the virus scan to verify that other files on your system are not infected.

At least this time it says it was deleted, but should I be worried since we did all those tests and this still came up?

I got it again except this time Freedom didn't say it was deleted. I'm a very patient person though, so take your time if it will help you find the solutions easier. Thanks so much for your help.

Could you give me more information about your D drive please. From the
system information I obtained this.

D: is CDROM (CDFS)

In my D drive I have the game disk for the game Pariah. I bought it brand new.

I am very puzzled by the location of this file.
D:\SYSTEM VOLUME INFORMATION\_RESTORE{46DE8921-1D39-44D2-A9E9-64119261F211}\RP2\A0001075.EXE

Please tell me if you get this error if you do not have the game in the CDROM?

I was given this but am not sure it applies. Please take a look at this and let me know.

Is the D:\ partition being monitored by System Restore?

How to disable a monitored drive:

Hey Susan, sorry I've been really busy lately. I checked the system restore and it is not monitoring the D: drive. I removed the CD and will let you know if I get the message again.

I haven't received the message again. I'm guessing it had something to do with the game. If there's anything you need let me know, otherwise I won't be posting again unless another problem arises. Thanks so much for your help!

Hi utdarkviper,

I have one tidying-up fix please. It is a registry entry pointing to file which no longer exists.

======
Backup Your Registry with ERUNT
  • Please use the following link and scroll down to ERUNT and download it.
    http://aumha.org/freeware/freeware.php
  • For version with the Installer:
Use the setup program to install ERUNT on your computer
  • For the zipped version:
Unzip all the files into a folder of your choice.

Click Erunt.exe to backup your registry to the folder of your choice.

Note: If you should need to restore your registry, go to the folder and start ERDNT.exe

Then, go to start-->run

and type this in:
notepad

Paste this into the box:

Code: Select all
REGEDIT4

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\SharedAccess\Parameters\FirewallPolicy\StandardProfile\AuthorizedApplications\List]
"C:\WINDOWS\system32\windir32.exe"=-

Then click on the FILE menu and select save as
Save the file as regfix.reg. Save the file to the desktop.
IMPORTANT: make sure to save the file as "all types" and NOT as a text file
**

Now double click on regfix.reg and insert it into the registry.

==========
That sure is a puzzle as to why a game would cause that error.
