HiJackThis log

Unread postby Dwight Hebert » January 23rd, 2007, 12:10 am

I've cleaned my computer today using upto date AVG free, Spybot Search and Distroy, and Ad-Aware. Ran all in the Safe mode.

The following is my HiJackThis log. Please let me know if I need to do any thing to insure that I am free of malware.

Thanks
Dwight

Dwight,

Your HijackThis log actually looks very good. :) There's not much to do, just a bit of tidying up...

Close all programs leaving only HijackThis running. Place a check against each of the following, making sure you get them all and not any others by mistake:

R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page = F:\windows\system32\blank.htm
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page = F:\windows\system32\blank.htm

Having a site in the Trusted Zone (unless absolutely necessary for access) is a bad idea since many hijackers will use your Hosts file to redirect certain common sites (like the following O15 entry) to their site. You don't want to end up redirected to a bad site with your settings for that site in the trusted zone!

If you do not need this site in your trusted zone to facilitate access, or you did not knowingly permit this access yourself, then please fix the following O15 entry with HijackThis....

O15 - Trusted Zone: http://elitenet.geindustrial.com

Click on Fix Checked when finished and exit HijackThis.

Your Java is out of date. Older versions have vulnerabilities that malware can use to infect your system. Please follow these steps to remove older version Java components and update to the latest version...

Updating Java:
  • Download the latest version of Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6.0.
  • Scroll down to where it says "The J2SE Runtime Environment (JRE) allows end-users to run Java applications."
  • Click the "Download" button to the right.
  • Check the box that says: "Accept License Agreement."
  • The page will refresh.
  • Click on the link to download Windows Offline Installation with or without Multi-language and save to your desktop.
  • Close any programs you may have running - especially your web browser.
  • Go to Start > Control Panel double-click on Add/Remove programs and remove all older versions of Java.
  • Check any item with Java Runtime Environment (JRE or J2SE) in the name.
  • Click the Remove or Change/Remove button.
  • Repeat as many times as necessary to remove each Java version.
  • Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed.
  • Then from your desktop double-click on jre-6-windows-i586.exe to install the newest version.
