Internet access gone AWOL;a challenge

Can anyone please shed any light on this mystery?

The computer in question had internet access via a LAN until about a month ago when it had Norton installed on it via a cd(why I have no idea)

Since then all attempts to connect it to the BB have failed or try and repair the connection have failed; as far as one can tell all the computer wires are correctly placed;

I have no idea if there was already the NTL av program on there

Needless to say it is impossible to run the NTL repair program as that is on the server which is inaccessible

A repair of the LAN failed; an attempt to reinstall the BB connection failed

I am wondering if there may be a malware reason for this or a conflict

Can someone kindly review this log and advice

Please note as the computer is unable to connect to the net; any downloads to try and sort the computer will have to be done via a USB pen

Any instructions need to be in simple and basic terms as the computer owner is not really computer savvy

Of interest, when I asked about system restore I got a blank reply

The only restore point IN there is around Christmas time; all others have somehow been wiped off

If all else fails they will be taking the machine to have the windows reinstalled but I am wondering if there is some reason seen in the log why the machine will not connect

Thanks for your time in looking at this log
as far as I know the Norton had been removed but, from my brief look at the log, it seems otherwise

needless to say they cannot even connect to download mails from server

my grateful thanks to whoever volunteers to check this out and see what, if anything can be done to restore this computer to be able to connect to the internet again
HAS it got an infection or sumunt on it that has clobbered it?

Download the symantec removal tool here

Run it on the affected computer and follow the onscreen instructions

Your computer may be restarted more than once, and you may be asked to repeat some steps after the computer restarts.

Follow the instructions here to run winsockxpfix

Let me know if this restores internet connectivity

thanks for the reply random-random :)

I have those instruction and will let you know how he gets on :P

hopefully I will get back with good news as with no internet connection it cannot really get much worse ;he cannot connect the net to get infected...so that is one good thing

unless of course he manages to get hold of a cd or similar that IS infected , and at present I dont think he has any valid av protection as I THOUGHT that that had been removed via ad/remove programs already

is the latest log from the computer; I am advised that it still refuses to connect to the lan and that your instructions were followed; it also will not connect to its printer

my concern was that it might BE malware related; if you can confirm for me that,as far as you can tell it is free from infection ?

I will request the computer help from the specialists on computertrouble as I am sure you really need to be concentrating on machines that are infected and not those with other glitches

thanks for reviewing this latest log ; if it is free from infection ,unless you have any other suggestions to make, I will go over there
maybe it will need reformatting and reinstalling but I am hoping someone might spot something to help it recover before that
again, thanks for your time on this
I am most grateful as is my as yet uninternet capabled friend
:D

(I have got the drivers for the printer on the usb stick )

There does not appear to be any malware in the log, so I would say it is probably a good idea to go to the computer trouble forums.
