WORM_VB.AS - can't get rid: Here's my log...

Unread postby cheesy » June 28th, 2005, 12:55 pm

Hi there! Would really appreciate some help. Popped over and had a free trend micro check and it seems I've got this worm_vb.as. Just can't seem to get rid of it.

Norton didn't find it nor did any of my other software. I've Spybotted, SpyDoctored and AdAware'd. I'm not sure how bad it is so can anyone suggest how I can remove it?

Many thanks, Cheese

Hello, cheesy, and welcome to the forums! :)

Where did Trend Micro show the file to be located? If you didn't make a note of this, then please repeat the scan and see if you can get the exact location of the file.

  • You are running HijackThis from the Desktop; please create a new folder on your Desktop. (Just right click on the Desktop, select "New," then "Folder"). Name the new folder HJT, HijackThis, or something similar. Then just drag and drop HijackThis into its new folder.
  • Boot into Safe Mode by continually tapping the F8 key as your system restarts. Select Safe Mode from the options offered.
  • Make sure that all realtime anti-spyware protection is disabled, such as Spy Sweeper and A2 Guard, or any similar program. (Do not disable your antivirus and/or firewall). Some of these programs will stop changes from being made, such as removing a HijackThis entry.
  • Next, close all programs leaving only HijackThis running. Place a check against each of the following, making sure you get them all and not any others by mistake:

    O18 - Filter: text/html - (no CLSID) - (no file)

Click on Fix Checked when finished and exit HijackThis.
  • Please reboot into Normal Mode.

Download CCleaner from here to clean temp files from your computer.
  • Double click on the file to start the installation of the program.
  • Select your language and click OK, then next.
  • Read the license agreement and click I Agree.
  • Click next to use the default install location. Click Install then finish to complete installation.
  • Double click the CCleaner shortcut on the desktop to start the program.
  • On the Windows tab, under "Internet Explorer," uncheck "Cookies" if you do not want them deleted. (If deleted, you will likely need to reenter your passwords at all sites where a cookie is used to recognize you when you visit).
  • If you use either the Firefox or Mozilla browsers, the box to uncheck for "Cookies" is on the Applications tab, under Firefox/Mozilla.
  • Click Run Cleaner to run the program.
  • Caution : It is not recommended to use the "Issues" tab unless you are very familiar with the registry as it has been known to find legitimate items.
  • After it has completed its process, click Exit.

Then, please run this online virus scan:
ActiveScan

Save the results from ActiveScan.

Please post the log from ActiveScan and a new HiJackThis log into this topic.
