Unread postby mungabungie13 » December 27th, 2006, 6:02 pm

i have some weird problems, first of all, in firefox when i use the address bar to go to my schools wesite which is http://www.thecenterforadvancedlearning.org instead of bookmarking it i just type 'cal gresham' into the address bar and firefox used to use google to take me straight to it. well now when i type in 'cal gresham' it takes me to: 'http://www.metacrawl.ws/go/?Y2FsIGdyZXNoYW0qKiowKioqejZjNjJrMg=='

then i also have this going on, when i try to install IE7 or Windows media player 11, they go into a scanning mode right. well as soon as that starts my pc just turns off. then it instantly turns back on and boots up again.

i just scanned with avg and i also have NOD32 virus scanner. heres the log. please help me.

Unread postby Linkmaster » December 27th, 2006, 7:14 pm

Hi mungabungie13, Welcome to MalWare Removal !!

You may wish to print out a copy of these instructions to follow while you complete this procedure

We need to disable your Windows Defender Real-time Protection as it may interfere with the fixes that we need to make.
Open Windows Defender.
Click on Tools, General Settings
Scroll down and uncheck Turn on real-time protection (recommended).
After you uncheck this, click on the Save button and close Windows Defender
After all of the fixes are complete, it is very important that you enable Real-time Protection again

Also having Kaspersky Internet Security and Windows Live Onecare both running is not good ! MS Live OneCare doesn't like to play with other Suites
I suggest you do one of the following :
Enable only 1 Suite to run RealTime Scanning, leave the other disabled
OR
Uninstall all but 1 of the Suites (Start, ControlPanel, Add/Remove Programs)

I need you to download some programs to aide in our fix :Do Not Run Them Yet

Download SmitfraudFix© by S!Ri to your Desktop.

Download ATF (Atribune Temp File) Cleaner© by Atribune

Download and Install AVG Anti-Spyware© by Grisoft (you do not need to download again if you still have it)

Launch AVG Anti-Spyware, there should be an icon on your desktop double-click it.
The program will now go to the main screen
You will need to update AVG Anti-Spyware to the latest definition files.
On the main screen select the icon Update then select the Update now link
Next select the Start Update button, the update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed.
Close AVG Anti-Spyware

Double-click smitfraudfix.exe
Select option #1 - Search by typing 1 and press Enter
IMPORTANT: DO NOT run any other options until you are asked to do so!
This program will scan large amounts of files on your computer for known patterns so please be patient while it works
Note : process.exe is detected by some antivirus programs (AntiVir, Dr.Web, Kaspersky) as a "RiskTool"; it is not a virus, but a program used to stop system processes. Antivirus programs cannot distinguish between "good" and "malicious" use of such programs, therefore they may alert you

When it is done, the results of the scan will be displayed and it will create a log named rapport.txt in the root of your drive, eg: Local Disk C: or partition where your operating system is installed
Open the rapport.txt file
Copy and Paste the contents of the rapport.txt file here
