Hi,

Make sure that you can see hidden files
· Click Start
· Open My Computer
· Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options
· Select the View Tab
· Under the Hidden files and folders heading select Show hidden files and folders
· Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option
· Click Yes to confirm
· Click OK
** These files are hidden to stop you accidentally removing something important.
It is advisable to hide them again after fixing your computer. **

=======================================

If you have an "always on" connection to the internet, physically disconnect that connection until you are finished with Safe Mode and have rebooted back into normal mode.

Next, please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following:
1) Restart your computer
2) After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.
3) Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear
4) Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode.
Look in here for
more information.

=======================================
Run HiJackThis;
Click on Scan and put a check in front of the following

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {7DA39570-5FD2-4f18-94B4-20730CB3F727} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\uegdaokn.dll
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {F28A6E46-2060-45E5-A45E-47974E7265D8} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\vtsqr.dll (file missing)
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [jxqe53fc] RUNDLL32.EXE w2e344fd.dll,n 001e53fb000000032e344fd
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [DllRunning] rundll32.exe "C:\WINDOWS\system32\qvfaocal.dll",setvm
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [WinSysModule] dsrss.exe

Close all other windows and browsers, except HijackThis and click on "fix checked".

======================================

Go to Start > Search > All Files and Folders. Expand Search Options, check Advanced Options, check Search system folders, Search hidden files and folders, and Search Subfolders. Paste this into the Search for files and folders named box: w2e344fd.dll and delete it when/if found.

Do the same for
dsrss.exe

Using Windows Explorer (right click on Start, click on Explore),locate and delete the following file:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\qvfaocal.dll

=======================================

Empty your Recycle Bin. Reboot. Post a fresh HijackThis log please.

Try the following link for the combofix:

Hi,

Please have the following entry fixed with HijackThis like you did before:

O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Cnr] C:\WINDOWS\system32\ICROSO~1.NET\MCONFI~1.EXE

Then, delete the following folder:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\ICROSO~1.NET <====== Please pay attention to the spelling. It starts with these six letters ICROSO

Reboot for the changes to take effect.

and also running combofix. Also, Spybot says that I'm infected with Smitfraud-C,I have spybot clean it but it keeps coming back.

Does Spybot give you the file path for Smitfraud-C?

Can you please post the Combofix.txt also, along with a fresh HijackThis log and the file path for Smitfraud reported by Sypboty ?

I deleted the entry in hijackthis but was unable to locate the folder.Could it have been deleted? heres the new hijackthis log and the combofix log from yesterday. Oh heres the location of the smitfraud-c Smitfraud-C.: Program directory (Directory, fixed)
C:\WINDOWS\system32\drv32dta\
Smitfraud-C.Toolbar888: Settings (Registry key, fixed)
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Juan
I also have a question. I have the blackice firewall but the last time i tried to install it my computer kept resetting itself when the scan started for the application control function. Should I try to reinstall my firewall now?

Hi,

I deleted the entry in hijackthis but was unable to locate the folder.Could it have been deleted?
Combofix has quarantined it. You can go ahead and delete the following folder:

C:\QooBox

What Spybot is reporting is that it has fixed them.

I also have a question. I have the blackice firewall but the last time i tried to install it my computer kept resetting itself when the scan started for the application control function. Should I try to reinstall my firewall now?

I have never used blackice firewall. I don't have an answer. However, I strongly would advise you to have a third party firewall. Here are some free-for-personal use firewall applications that I would recommend. Just make sure that only one firewall application is installed.

ZoneAlarm here
Sygate here
Kerio Personal Firewall here
Outpost here
Important: (Windows XP only) If you install a firewall, be sure to turn off the WinXP-firewall!

===================================

You might like to print these instructions so that you'll have access to them at all times, especially when you are in Safe Mode later.

===================================

Please download Ccleaner and save it to your desktop.
Tutorial for CCleaner
During the installation be sure to UN-check the box for "Ccleaner Yahoo Toolbar" unless you want it Do not scan with it yet.

===================================

Please download the Killbox by Option^Explicit.

Note: In the event you already have Killbox, this is a new version that I need you to download.
  • Save it to your desktop.

===================================

Download AVG Anti Spyware

Use the link at the bottom of the page under "AVG Anti-Spyware Free for Windows"

Image

  • Install AVG Anti Spyware
  • Double-click the icon on Desktop to launch AVG
  • On the top of the main screen click Shield
  • Click the word active to change it to inactive
  • On the top of the main screen click Update.
  • Then click on Start Update. The update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed.
  • Once the update has completed select the "Scanner" icon at the top of the screen, then select the "Settings" tab.
  • Once in the Settings screen click on "Recommended actions" and then select "Quarantine".
  • Under "Reports"
    • Select "Automatically generate report after every scan"
    • Un-Select "Only if threats were found"

When you have finished updating, EXIT AVG Anti Spyware. Do Not run a scan just yet, we will shortly.

==================================

Run Killbox. Select Delete on Reboot. Then click on the All Files button. Please copy the file paths below to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C (or, after highlighting, right-click and choose copy):

C:\WINDOWS\system32\mkusjdcn.dll
C:\WINDOWS\dsrss.exe
C:\WINDOWS\ieserver.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\ecsdtyvt.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\yjpqumka.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\uegdaokn.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\wcxxpdaw.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\ffopmdhj.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\qvfaocal.dll

Return to Killbox, go to the File menu, and choose Paste from Clipboard.

Click the red-and-white Delete File button. Click Yes at the Delete on Reboot prompt.
Click OK at any PendingFileRenameOperations prompt (and please let me know if you receive this message!).

If your computer does not restart automatically, please restart it manually.

If you receive a message such as: "Component 'MsComCtl.ocx' or one of its dependencies not correctly registered: a file is missing or invalid." when trying to run Killbox, click here to download and run missingfilesetup.exe. Then try Killbox again.

===================================

Reboot your computer in Safe Mode using the F8 method below.
a. If the computer is running, shut down Windows, and then turn off the power.
b. Wait 30 seconds, and then turn the computer on.
c. Start tapping the F8 key. The Windows Advanced Options Menu appears. If you begin tapping the F8 key too soon, some computers display a "keyboard error" message. To resolve this, restart the computer and try again.
d. Ensure that the Safe Mode option is selected.
e. Press Enter. The computer then begins to start in Safe mode.

===================================

From Safe Mode run Ccleaner
  • Click on Options,
  • Select Advanced
  • Now UNCHECK "Only delete files in Windows Temp folders older than 48 hours"
  • Make sure the Cleaner block on the left is selected.
  • Do not use the "Issues" block . It's meant for professionals.
  • Choose the Windows tab.
  • Check everything EXCEPT Advanced part of the Menu.
  • Click on "Analyze". This process could take a while.
  • If you don't want to loose your login passwords to certain sites, click on Options
  • Select cookies and move the ones you want to keep to the "cookies to keep" section, by highlighting and using the arrows in the middle.
  • Choose Run Cleaner.
When CCleaner shows how much has been removed, cleaning is finished. Click Exit.
If you have more than one users, run Ccleaner for every user

  • Launch AVG Anti-Spyware by double-clicking the icon on your desktop.
  • Select the "Scanner" icon at the top and then the "Scan" tab then click on "Complete System Scan".
  • AVG Anti-Spyware will now begin the scanning process, be patient this may take a little time.
    Once the scan is complete do the following:

  • Next select the "Reports" icon at the top.
  • Select the "Save report as" button in the lower left hand of the screen and save it to a text file on your system (make sure to remember where you saved that file, this is important).
  • Close AVG Anti-Spyware.

======================================

Reboot in Normal Mode.

Hi,

It's looking good from here. How is it there?

installed the sunbelt kerio personal firewall

That's good. Just make sure that Symantec doesn't have an on-board firewall as well.

AVG AS report, it say "no action taken". I am afraid you missed a step while scanning.
Please ensure it is set to Quarantine, then select "Apply all actions"
Scan again please, and have it either delete or quarantine them now.

Perform an online scan using Internet Explorer with Panda ActiveScan
  • Click on Image located at the bottom of the page.
  • A "pop up" window will appear. Please ensure that your pop up blocker doesn't block it
  • Enter your e-mail address, country, and state & click "Free Online Scan" The download of the 8 MB Panda's ActiveX control will take place
Begin the scan by selecting Image
  • If it finds any malware, it will offer you a report.
  • Please ignore any entry it finds and the offer to buy the program to remove the entry, as we will address this later.
  • Click on Image then click Image and post back the contents please.
* You needn't remain online while it's doing the scan but you have to re-connect after it has finished to see the report.
* Turn off the real time scanner of any existing antivirus program while performing the online scan

Post back the Panda Active Scan results and let me know how the computer is running now.

Sorry for the delay in replying.Computer is running better but I still think it's infected with something. Here's the results of the panda scan.
Incident Status Location

Virus:trj/cinaproxy.a Disinfected Operating system
Virus:trj/briz.d Disinfected Operating system
Virus:trj/briz.f Disinfected Operating system
Hacktool:HackTool/Flood Not disinfected C:\Excursion9.5\webview\nHTMLn_2.92.dll
Virus:Trj/Qhost.EV Disinfected C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc\hosts.20061230-184931.backup

I deleted the hacktool in the excursion folder also.

Amateur is away, so I will now be assisting you.

Run HijackThis
Click on do a system scan only
Place a checkmark next to these lines(if still present)

O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Cpue] "C:\DOCUME~1\Owner\MYDOCU~1\MCROSO~1.NET\taskmgr.exe" -vt yazr

Then close all windows except Hijackthis and click Fix Checked

  • Create a folder on your desktop called Sysclean.
  • Go to http://www.trendmicro.com/download/dcs.asp and download sysclean package to the folder you made.
  • Go to http://www.trendmicro.com/download/pattern.asp and download the Virus Pattern File (Official Pattern Release) to your desktop.
    This file will be called lptXXX.zip (XXX represents the version number)
  • Unzip lptXXX.zip and you'll get the file lpt$vpn.XXX. Read here how to unzip/extract properly.
  • Move the lpt$vpn.XXX to the Sysclean-folder you created on your desktop.
  • Open the sysclean-folder and doubleclick sysclean.com.
  • Check: "Automatically clean or delete detected files".
  • Click scan.
Open your sysclean-folder and copy and paste the contents of sysclean.log in your next reply.

Post back with the sysclean log and a new HijackThis log.
