a complete n00b's Hijack Log

Unread postby ClydeBarrow » November 4th, 2006, 8:22 pm

First of all, I have never used Hijack This, so I know nothing about this program, all I know is I have a virus. I'm a complete n00b when it comes to MalWare of any kind, I don't know how to read any of this, and I'm sure my computer is infected with massive amounts of crap that I didn't even knew existed. Don't make fun of me too bad, I'm computer illiterate and could use a hand. Thanks.

I got rid of something on my own, here's the result of the HJT scan after the virus is gone, still not sure if I'm clean or not...

Hi ClydeBarrow

Welcome to the MalWare Removal forums! I'll be glad to help you with your computer problems.
HijackThis logs can take some time to research, so please be patient with me. I know that you need
your computer working as quickly as possible, and I will work hard to help see that happens.

In order to help me help you, please observe the following while we work:
  1. If you don't know, stop and ask! Don't continue, we don't want to start all over again!
  2. Understand that cleaning your computer can sometimes take multiple passes/posts,
and it's important to follow the steps as listed including re-running scans as listed
  3. Please reply to this thread, do not start another.

If you can do those three things, everything should go smoothly

Hi ClydeBarrow,

Please don't remove anything until instructed to it makes it hard to write correct fix to remove malware.

From your log it looks like you are running two virus Programs Please read below:
AVG and Norton at the sametime....bad

You can only have one virus program and firewall program running at one time, it will cause major conflicts. Please read following.

Anti-virus programs take up an enormous amount of your computer's resources when they are actively scanning your computer. Having two anti-virus programs running at the same time can cause your computer to run very slow, become unstable and even, in rare cases, crash. Which leaves you open to infection.

If you choose to install more than one antivirus program on your computer, then only one of them should be active in memory at a time.

There are basically two types of these programs:
On-Access and On-Demand

On-Access Scanners
As the name implies, it runs in the background all the time the PC is turned on and running. The main function of an on-access scanner is to monitor activity on your machine.

On-Demand Scanners

As the name implies, are scanners that only run when you ask them to.
Such as:
Online Scans and scanners that run on your machine but are not actively scanning your machine.

Please decide which one you want to have running and you must uninstall or disable all others.
