Hello Eagledunk,

Hijackthis log doesn't show anything special, but it doesn't show everything either so let's push the check a bit further. :)

Hijackthis is running from a Temp folder. In order to create and keep backups, Hijackthis needs to run from it's own folder.

Download HijackThis to your Desktop or to your usual Download Folder.
http://www.thespykiller.co.uk/files/HJTSetup.exe

Double click on HJTSetup.exe and by default it should install to C:\Program Files\Hijack This
Continue through the setup and let it create a Desktop Icon.
Follow all the prompts, click Finish, and let the installer start HijackThis.
Run HijackThis, click on Open the Misc Tools Section, put a checkmark in List also minor sections and List empty sections. Click on Generate StartupList log, anwser Yes and copy/paste the content in your reply.
Click Back and Click on Scan. When the scan is finished, click Save Log and paste the content in your reply.

Please do an online scan with Kaspersky Online Scanner

Notice!
A new version of Kaspersky Virus Scanner has been released on August 8, 2006. If you have installed a previous version, you must unistall that program first before installing the new version. To uninstall, please go to the computer control panel and select "Add/Remove Programs." Close all Internet Explorer windows before uninstalling the Kaspersky Online Scanner.

Click on Kaspersky Online Scanner

You will be promted to install an ActiveX component from Kaspersky, Click Yes.
Note for Internet Explorer 7 users: If at any time you have trouble with the accept button of the licence, click on the Zoom tool located at the right bottom of the IE window and set the zoom to 75 %. Once the license accepted, reset to 100%.
  • The program will launch and then start to download the latest definition files.
  • Once the scanner is installed and the definitions downloaded, click Next.
  • Now click on Scan Settings
  • In the scan settings make that the following are selected:
    • Scan using the following Anti-Virus database:
      • Extended (If available otherwise Standard)
    • Scan Options:
      • Scan Archives
      • Scan Mail Bases
  • Click OK
  • Now under select a target to scan select My Computer
  • The scan will take a while so be patient and let it run. Once the scan is complete it will display if your system has been infected.
  • Now click on the Save Report As button:
    • Save the file to your desktop.
    • File Type: Text file (*.txt).
    • Name: Kav.txt for example
  • Copy and paste that information in your next post.
Please post startuplist, hijackthis log and KAV scan. You might need several posts to fit in the logs.

Hello Eagledunk,

No severe issues, just a couple of small things to fix.

Make sure that you can see hidden files.
  1. Click Start.
  2. Click My Computer.
  3. Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
  4. Select the View Tab.
  5. Under the Hidden files and folders heading select Show hidden files and folders.
  6. Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
  7. Click Yes to confirm.
  8. Uncheck the Hide file extensions for known file types.
  9. Click OK.

A regkey needs a correction
Copy/paste the following quote box into a new notepad (not wordpad) document.

regedit /e %systemdrive%\regkey.txt "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run"
notepad %systemdrive%\regkey.txt
del /q %systemdrive%\regkey.txt

Save it to your Desktop as regkey.bat. Save it as:
File Type: All Files (not as a text document or it wont work).
Name:regkey.bat

Locate regkey.bat on your Desktop and double-click it. When notepad opens, copy/paste the content in your reply. When you close Notepad the CMD window will close automatically and the text file will be deleted.

Using Windows Explorer, you may empty Housecall quarantine folder : C:\Documents and Settings\Debbie Duncan\.housecall6.6\Quarantine

System Resore will need a reset, but I would like to perform the regifx first.

Now, something else ... I do see a leftover of Norton & Trend Micro but I don't see a firewall or an antivirus at all. It is urgent that you install both !
